I highly recommend a very textured ceramic or porcelain tile! I put mine on top of padded foam shelf liners that I cut to size, so they don't damage the tank glass, then super-glued a ribbon along the bottom of one piece of tile so I can safely lift it up. Don't knock tile substrate. It works wonders when combined with a deep heat projector. You can and should also include thicker pieces of sphagnum moss. The leo will appreciate that more than towel when shredding. But yes, tile works wonders for babies or geckos with health issues, so long as there are no gaps to injure feet. Try Lowes and home depot and get ones that have a lot of rough ridges and matte, unglossed texture and finish
@@G.r.e.g.g.l.e.sTile is hard on geckos joints thus is not recommended. and deep heat projectors dont emit the necessary uvs. Halogenen bulbs are better along with linear uvb strip.
This may sound silly I'm not sure, but how often would you clean this. I know the isopods are sort of a clean up crew but is that all it needs? I was always scared to try these kinds of enclosures because I thought I would end up harming my gecko. I'm not saying this kind of enclosure would, I'm saying that I was scared I would do it all wrong and cause more harm myself
If you do it right there's no cleaning & no smell but a pleasant outside smell! I have a plated lizard in a 4×2×2 like this & at first I'd pick up his 💩 but now they are fertilizer for plants 😅& food for the isopods. My crested gecko is on papertowels and he gets stinky if I don't clean weekly so I'm actually building his bioactive enclosure now, too.
I built a 50 gallon tank. It took me a while it was fun and frustrating. Watch Chiefsweetsuniverse video for the 50 gallon enclosure. Then you can build the interior and do drylock and sprayfoam or silicone and cocofiber. The drylock method is more suited for arid enclosure mine turned out great just be patient and take your time. It will be worth it.
@@EverEvolvingExotics we are trying to build this enclosure for my 14yr old son. I had a few questions and clarifications. What is the back layer of stuff you have? Is there a list of things to put in? The video is so fast.
For the most part I don’t. I add isopods and springtails to break down waste and turn it into nutrients for the plants to use. Bioactive enclosures are living ecosystems. I posted a maintenance video recently about how I clean planted Dart Frog enclosures if you want to learn more.
Uhm, what about the other (warm / cold depending on heating placement) hide, moist hide? 😅 Doesn't just have to look good but first of all be practical and good for the animal :)
What rocks and stuff do you put at the bottom? I’m getting one next month and I’m a first timer! I don’t want sand because I heard it’s dangerous they might eat it or something. But do you also have any tips? Thanks!💓
I don’t add mesh with arid environments. I allow the entire thing to dry out between watering heavily again. Screen isn’t necessary. With tropical environments like Dart Frog vivs you should ideally use drainage mesh or the plants will always be in water leading to root rot.
I am looking to get my gecko a bioactive tank but I don't have much money, around how much did it take to make this aside from plants cause I got them? Also is it a 20 or 40 gallon
As far as I know a Leopardgecko doesn’t live in forests. They need solid ground and you don’t need moos u don’t want high humidity in the tank. I would recommend searching the Internet or books BEFORE getting an animal. Also do Leopardgeckos like to climb… overall this is not a Leopardgecko tank
As far as I know forests don’t look like this 🤔 this is a bioactive enclosure. It creates a variety of options for the gecko to choose use and explore. The top forms a crust that is dry, the right side has the heat gradient while the cool side has burrows which have access to humidity. Yes, even animals in the desert have access to humidity. There are many ways to keep reptiles successfully. This is what works well for me.
If you’ve ever tried something like this you’d know that under a heat light the humidity drops like a stone once the top of the soil dries a bit but the bottom stays moist and aerated by the isopods and springtails. I would recommend you search the internet yourself cause there’s tons of people that keep them in similar substrate without any problems. Tho if you actually did do some research you’d know that there’s pretty much no right answer for substrate everyone does things differently and they’ve all had either success or failure. Name one substrate that absolutely everyone agrees on…. Literally impossible cause even the most “safest” options have their drawbacks like paper towels that’s not natural, looks horrible, and doesn’t allow for digging which some reptiles love to do. Imagine being denied something you love cause your owner is a one sided elitist that’s a sad life for a reptile. It’s like not walking your dog simply cause you dont want them getting their paws dirty, what’s makes you the perfect pet owner?
This is bioactive which creates a gradient of temperatures and humidity. The cool side has multiple burrows which have pockets of humidity and the top layer is dry.
Bioactive enclosures seem so cool, but they’re not for me. I have the opposite of a green thumb. I tried a bioactive enclosure once and killed the plants. I do good with reptiles, but plants are not my strong suit at all.
If you want to keep yours on paper towels do what works for you. Leopard Geckos are not that fragile with proper husbandry. I’ve found my geckos to thrive in this type of enclosure.
If you think they go around licking everything you’re WRONG, they are way smarter than you think. Basic setups will eventually bore and damage your gecko!
I think it’s awesome when people do massive setups for Leopard Geckos. This is a 40 gallon 36x18x18” it’s what I recommend as the minimum adult size. You can and should go bigger if you have the space and budget.
this is my dream enclosure omg, but my vet instructed to keep dirt and sand out of mine since my leo has eye irritation, so paper towels it is lol

My adventurous little leopard gecko would love this! She’s quite the sassy little thing when it comes to exploring 😂
They love exploring!
Do an Isopod showcase of all the species you guys have!!!
love it.... getting one started for my female leopard gecko "Marley" it will be her Christmas present new larger home
So sick love your builds
Thank you! 🥰

Such a brilliant set up 🎉
This is the True way to take care of reptiles!
I just got leopard geckos yesterday and took inspiration from this
that is absolutely beautiful 🙏
Nice set up bro ... looks amazing 👏
I love haworthias as well.
They are hardy and beautiful!
I think I’d try go for a bioactive enclosure in the future

I understood radioactive at first and was kinda confused
That’s dope bro
How often does the tank need to be cleaned? Or does it never have to be cleaned other than picking up poop?
Nice enclosure
Thank you! 🥰
Looks really good!
You forgot to put in your barrier before the substrate 🤦🏽♂️
That's what I was thinking. It renders the drainage layer useless 😂
Can you do a tutorial on where to get the stuff I would love to give my leopard gecko A new tank and I am interested in it
We are a family owned reptile shop in Tucson, AZ. Check with your local pet shops. I should do a video of picking everything out from our shelves. 🥰

What size of enclosure do you recommend for a 5 year old leopard gecko
Why must you wait so long before introducing the gecko into the enclosure?
I have all the materials to make a bioactive but I only have one tank, I’m not sure what to do with my gecko if I have to keep it out for 1 month???
This is so cool. I'm new to reptiles and this is making me really interested
My succulents burn under the light. My temperatures are right for leopard gecko. What plants are resistant to heat lamp and light?
Don’t use a heat lamp use radiant heat and place plants or heat source appropriately
Hi, how do you manage to heat the terrarium? Sorry if my english is not perfect😅
I use overhead heating. This a 100w ZooMed infared deep heat projector.
You're English is very good

Dream enclosure for sure.
What's the dimensions of the enclosure?
Wow
🥰
Hey, can you make an affordable version next time?😅 by the way the tank looks great👍
How can I order one of these premade enclosures?
how do you clean it?
For the most part I don’t. I add isopods and springtails to break down waste and turn it into nutrients for the plants to use. Bioactive enclosures are living ecosystems. I posted a maintenance video recently about how I clean planted Dart Frog enclosures if you want to learn more.
Do the succulents actually grow well inside of there?
Very well, succulents need high light, good drainage, and to not be over watered to thrive.
Can I get materials needed. Video is so fast!
Where can I buy charcoal like this?
Uhm, what about the other (warm / cold depending on heating placement) hide, moist hide? 😅 Doesn't just have to look good but first of all be practical and good for the animal :)
How did you make the background? I’ve got a 20 gallon long aquarium.
I have a full video on how I made this exact background, check it out!
I would love to purchase one. Website by chance ?
Does the thermal blanket work well with so much substrate?
how often do you water?
Trying to decide if it’s worth turning my new 40 into bio active or not. It’ll be very pricey
Can this be fone in a wooden vivarium?

Not with arid builds.

That’s outdated thinking. Healthy adult geckos with proper temperatures and husbandry will thrive on this.
Yes realy good enclosurs for only Adult gecko if he is with uv lamp
