    Thank you thank you! I’ve keeping the heat lamp on at night, but Jerry also has a heat pad under his habitat and I do have one side cooler and both lights on one side, but I was told they always need the red light for heat, but they need darkness I though at night.. so thank you so much! I will refer here if I have any more questions!

    @Chief Is it unheard of that I’m using a 125W to get desired temps for a 40 gallon breeder? It’s downstairs, and it’s cold as heck this week in North Carolina. It’s also set up for quarantine so no substrate except paper towels on it, it usually stays around 63-66 in that room lately. Temps are locked in where I need, just curious if it’s unheard of to need the 125W.
    Also it’s a thrive tank and I think that top cage helps blocks some heat as well

I know this is hard to predict, but I wonder if surface temperatures will be correct if the distance to the basking spot (with black rock slate) will be 30 cm (12´´). Will the same halogen bulb you are using work for a red foot tortoise? Because I am using a zoo med daylight blue bulb and now I want to switch.
    I think the zoo med blue bulbs are okay to use. I’m pretty sure they don’t let off a blue light I just think the glass is blue. It’s says on the box it’s purpose is to mimic daylight and the light it lets out is a white/yellow light.

    There is a question at the end of this comment, but some background: I have a female Leo that I rescued about 9 months ago. She's my first reptile. Originally, she was to be my oldest child's. However, circumstances have changed, and through no fault of my daughter's, the gecko is now mine. She was full grown when we got her, but her tail was very short (only about half of an inch long). I assume that the previous owner mistreated her and she dropped her tail, so the owner didn't want her anymore. Anyway, she's around 5 inches from the tip of her nose to where her tail meets her body, and her tail is about 3 inches long now, making her total length about 8 inches. I have been keeping her in a 20g high tank that I already had, with repticarpet and a few artificial hides, ceramic heat lamp, a cheap light, and recently a 10% UVB bulb. She's eating well, her tail is fattening up, and no signs of parasites. I think she's healthy enough for a bioactive enclosure now.
    So, I did days of research, days more shopping, and decided that with my budget and space, a ZooMed 25g (30"x12"x15") front opener was the best decision. I got that, the Arcadia 7% Shade dweller UVB, and a DHP with clamp light at PetSmart. Then, I went home and ordered the BioDude's leopard gecko 20g bioactive kit, a thermostat, and some CUC. I plan to put many hides, plants, and other decorations in, literally as many as I can fit while still giving her room to move around. I'll also make changes to the equipment as needed to suit her. I also take her out daily for enrichment, and she seems to enjoy running around on the counter or table, and I let her watch my fish tanks with me.
    Ok, finally, the question: Given that she's pretty small, do you feel that this enclosure could meet her needs for the rest of her life? Eventually, I would like a 40g enclosure for her, but I just couldn't stand her current setup any longer, and I'm sure she's ready for a change too. Bigger just wasn't in the budget right now, though, especially because I'd have to buy or build a new stand for it if it was any bigger.
    Also, I have another question: As I said, I plan to use a DHP for daytime heat. I'll also have the Glow and Grow light that comes with the kit I ordered from BioDude, as well as the UVB light. Do you think that will mimic the sun accurately enough?

    Where does the heating mat come into play? We are new Leopard Gecko owners and everyone's videos are so different. Our setup on the warm side is a UVB lamp that comes on at Sunrise and turns off at Sunset... for heat we have a heating pad directly below the UVB lamp. The basking area is steady at about 90 and the cool side is about 79-80. There are a couple hides and a basking rock all on the warm side. Is that a decent setup or should we also have a heat lamp as well?

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse
      @ChiefSweetsUniverse  5 місяців тому

      Oh yeah some people set up differently some use heat mats and no uvb some use heat mats with uvb. Me I use heat bulbs and uvb to try and replicate the sun. Even though these guys are primarily active at night I try and replicate the sun as it’s important to the circadian rhythm and lets them know when’s daytime and night as well as provide beneficial uvb and heat from above.

    Hey!! I'm quite new to this so just for safety reasons I have to ask - do I put the lamp directly onto the top of my tank? It has a glass ceiling and I don't know if it's okay to put a lamp just... just on the glass?? Like that's it?? Sorry I'm really lacking some knowledge and always thought it is way more complicated to do ":DD

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse
      @ChiefSweetsUniverse  6 місяців тому +1

      If it’s a glass ceiling then you need to figure out how to either mount it inside or use a screen top. Glass blocks all uvb and the heat won’t transfer through right.

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse

      It does get blocked but works well with most screen lids. However some thicker mesh does block too much

    @LoFiAxolotl Місяць тому

    Since we all know reptile specific items are marked up at stupid rates... if you want a cheap alternative to the terrarium branded dimmer thermostats... buy a thermostat and dimmer socket from the hardware store... takes some setting up but together only cost like $8 instead of the $80-150 you pay for a terrarium branded one they usually also have T2-T9 fixtures for next to nothing and you can build a reflector out of aluminum foil again for next to nothing so you only need the Bulb

    I'm new to geckos i purchased a 120 gallon 4x2x2 tank, i have a 50W deep heat arcadia with a Glow & Glow 16" LED and Arcadia Shade Dweller D3 7% UVB T5 Bulb 12". I have everything set to come on an hour before sunrise and then shuts off at sundown. Is my setup ok? as i am having issues getting the tank temps in the 90s, the highest ive seen is 80. I have the thermostat probes sitting on the slate slabs

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse
      @ChiefSweetsUniverse  Рік тому +1

      I would ditch the deep heat projector and go with a 75 watt maybe even two 75 watt heat bulbs since a 4x2x2 is much bigger and requires a larger basking area. I would also use a Arcadia t5 6% as the tank is very tall and anything taller than a 40 gallon you would need to switch to the 6% forest t5

    As a new and young leopard gecko owner. We just got 2 baby geckos who stay in the a 10 gallon tank together. And I have been worrying about night lighting with the day light and the red light lamps. Is it ok to turn off all lights at night in 60 degree F. I was told to have the red lights on but I don't want them to be in warm red light all night. I have seen other people who recommend heating pads for the night, but im not sure if they really need some kind of heat at night.

    • @pilzner1118
      @pilzner1118 6 місяців тому

      Well first off, separate them. Leos don’t like to be housed together, they’re solitary.
      There are people who say you can have 1 male & 1 female, or 1 male and a couple fems- none of that is true.
      Leos do NOT like to be together, and when they sleep on top of each other it’s actually a display of dominance. The lizard on top is asserting dominance.
      Some people have had Leo’s housed together for years without issue & out of nowhere one of their Leo’s starts attacking the other.
      Now onto the question you asked- don’t bother with a heat pad, Leo’s can absorb heat through all of their body, but heating pads are unnatural. If you’re worried about nighttime heating, get a ceramic heat emitter that produces no light

    • @pilzner1118
      @pilzner1118 6 місяців тому

      Now moving on from that- 10 gallons is too small for a single Leo let alone 2
      20 gal for a single juvi
      40 gal for an adult

    Wondering how Geckos benefits from UVB as they are nocturnals and usually stay in the hides during the day. Is it really beneficial?

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse
      @ChiefSweetsUniverse  10 місяців тому

      So they aren’t full nocturnals they are crepuscular meaning they are active at the dawn and dusk hours that’s why they are very active when lights are about to go out and when they do. So they experience exposure to the sun and uvb just not a lot of it. Also the lights are very good for their circadian rhythm. Regulates sleep patterns better
