Oh, I have such a weird story about this. When I was 11 my school used to takes us to see a kids movie once a year for a special screening. But for some reason, there was a screw up at the local theater and they played this instead of some kid's movie (probably one of the Beethoven movies. It was always Beethoven". my teachers weren't movie savvy at all and thought this was a kids movie. Y'know what maybe they weren't good teachers because they probably even left the theater. So it was this bunch of kids just hitting puberty and seeing this movie. Our faces were red by the time the movie stopped and my friends and I didn't talk to each other for the entire day and pretended nothing happened. Also, one of my friends told me that Bond girl means that they are related to Bond and everyone thought those women were Jame's sister. I'm pretty sure few kids cried and that's when the adults realized they were playing the wrong movie. It was pretty late in the movie too. It was a chaotic day and this was my first James bond movie.
Sophie Marceau is the best Bond Femme Fatale ever. This is Brosnan at his suave best. There is a great, twisty storyline moving things along and giving Bond emotional hurdles. Great use of M. A truly terrific boat sequence. Intriguing locations. Stellar directing. This is an underrated classic. I will inflate my jacket into a protective bubble and weather the snow fury of people who disagree. Yes, Denise Richards is bad... I get it.
Plus: the bad guy who has a bullet lodged in his brain and subsequently can't feel pain is a pretty awesome concept. He's played by Robert Carlyle, I think.
Denise Richards.... is actually fine in this IMO. It's just a sappy, bad part in a poorly made film. But hey we had fun with it Just like we had fun with 2017's Justice League; all of us, no exceptions

I might be in the minority but I actually really like this film. I think the twist of the real villain is brilliant & subversive for a Bond film. It also convinced me that Brosnan with better scripts & less goofy antics could be a great hard ass 007. He just had the unfortunate task of coming after Dalton, the roughest, most serious Bond to date. Because of that they opted to go campy with Brosnan which is a shame because his last 2 films had flashes of what a brilliant Bond he was & could be but he was overshadowed with surrounding garbage. Prime example? The absolutely horrendous and terrible casting of Denise Richards CAN NOT BE DEFENDED! lol
Dalton's movies were terrible. They could have easily resulted in the death of the franchise. Super-low stakes, boring plots that drag on. Campyness is an integral characteristic of Bond; set by the foundation laid by Connery.
Sam To each their own but I am not a fan of the campiness that was solidified by Moore’s era. I’d counter that the original books and early Connery films were far more grounded than what the franchise eventually became. Austin Powers became a success when it did for a reason: almost 2 decades of over the top camp in 007 films. I think that almost destroyed the franchise long before Brosnan was ever cast.
I love that during the speedboat chase scene in the game (Around 14:37 ) , the cigar girl is upside down, driving with her legs, just like in the movie!
If you watch the behind the scenes footage, they actually pulled the Q-boat underwater and then filmed Pierce underwater too. The whole scene looked more realistic and fluid than the cut used in the movie. But I still think it looks great. It's all practical effects. The whole boat chase opening is one of the best filmed and scored in the entire franchise. Pure entertainment. I'm sorry you don't appreciate that

The World is not Enough definitely falls as my second favorite of the Brosnan films, but it's definitely a guilty pleasure type of movie. (How could you gloss over the fact that the title, later referenced as Bond's family motto when Bond is talking to Elektra, actually isn't BS and dates back to On Her Majesty's Secret Service? I am outraged! /sarcasm)
Denise Richards aside, i think this is a great Bond flim. Elektra's a great main villain (It's not Renard) and the proper bond girl of the film. Before Skyfall, this film gave Judi Dench's M the most to do. Brosnan is at his best here too if you ask me.
There's 2 good things about this movie 1. Lady villain, and Sophie Marceau did great work or at least in comparison to the rest of the movie and 2. The Garbage theme song. Seriously it's my favourite of the Brosnan Bond Theme's easily.
It's my second favorite Brosnan movie, after Goldeneye, and I still think is a pretty great movie. It has a dark plot and we see Bond get hurt, a first in the series. Also Elektra is one of the best vilains in the series.
Renard could've been one of the best Bond villains ever. A baddie who can't feel pain bent on destruction versus a super agent who knows how to dish it out? It practically writes itself. Instead they turned him into a love sick puppy who mopes around half the movie. So much wasted potential.
16:35 This is Bronsan's go to way to act. Mrs Doubfire when Robin Williams character puts pepper on his meal. GoldenenEye when squeezed by Xenya & when in the plane tied up. Here & I'm sure you'll find him doing this hokey chokey act in more movies if you look.
FYI Dr Warmflash is not a censored name for the game, its the name of the red headed Doctor that reinstates Bond after getting injured in the beginning of the film. The one he bangs in the Scottish castle. lol
Don't forget to cover the 'James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing' video game. It's an original story that essentially functions as a fifth Brosnan Bond movie.
That boat scene was probably the result of the filmmakers watching the boat scene in 'Amsterdamned' and thinking: "That's cool, let's do that, but crank it up 200%.".
I basically like everything Mr Sunday and Weekly Planet puts out anyway, but I am surprised how much I like this series. I don’t have strong feelings any which way for these movies, but I’m really enjoying hearing the boys realize they don’t hate them.
I always liked that everyone's attitude is that Elektra had Stockholm syndrome but she was always in control throughout the film; the great line after she says to the "main" villain, "How would you know?" Sophie Marceau was excellent and I think this somewhat undersells the film...
I think this is the strongest Bond film of the 90s, they didn't cast Denise Richards well at all however the rest of the film is solid and brought Bond away from crazy gadgets.

Casting Denise spoiled the movie. Else it's great. Like the dark tones.
"women can like men too" is my favorite quote of 2020
It's my second favorite Brosnan movie, after Goldeneye, and I still think is a pretty great movie. It has a dark plot and we see Bond get hurt, a first in the series. Also Elektra is one of the best vilains in the series.
Mine too, I think. Goldeneye, this, TND, and prob DAD at end, for how... silly it got.
It did START very well, though.
Yes! 100% agreed! This film is terribly underrated!
@@langleymneely No it was overrated for years, only recently have people seen it for the bore that it is.
Clay3613 Agree to disagree on that.
That Shottys are Good Mate refrence from Two Hands is a deeeeeeep cut. Also like teenage Heath Ledger. Wild.
FYI Dr Warmflash is not a censored name for the game, its the name of the red headed Doctor that reinstates Bond after getting injured in the beginning of the film. The one he bangs in the Scottish castle. lol
"I thought Christmas came only once a year."
Cringe
Hehehe... orgasm
Haha pretty lady came haha
Don't forget to cover the 'James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing' video game. It's an original story that essentially functions as a fifth Brosnan Bond movie.
That bomb and boat chase is STILL the opening.
Longest opening sequence in a Bond movie.
Let’s give these guys the 50,000 likes they deserve!
I always liked that everyone's attitude is that Elektra had Stockholm syndrome but she was always in control throughout the film; the great line after she says to the "main" villain, "How would you know?"
Sophie Marceau was excellent and I think this somewhat undersells the film...
HOLY SHIT BIONICLE REFERENCE, and better yet, MNOG REFERENCE? I love you guys.
"Because you love Bureaucratic bungling"
If one of them gets into an "accident"
It because of this video.
This has one of the best bond songs in my opinion
they need to do perfect dark because lets be honest it the best bond game after goldeneye
Night fire and the agent under fire game were some of the best
I think this is the strongest Bond film of the 90s, they didn't cast Denise Richards well at all however the rest of the film is solid and brought Bond away from crazy gadgets.
I think we can agree the theme song by Garbage was the best part about it all🤷
Mason apologizing to his friend for that line is my favourite thing from you guys.
