Tomorrow Never Dies is lowkey one of my favorite Bond films. It’s got a great villain in Elliot Carver, a media mogul who uses his empire to influence the news by creating wars. Mr. Stamper has his senses twisted and feels pleasure when he should feel pain, so how do you stop a guy like that..and it’s got a very interesting and plausible plot. It’s arguably in my top 5 on any given day but normally it’s my #6 favorite Bond film behind: 1. Goldeneye 2. Casino Royale 3. License To Kill 4. The Spy Who Loved Me 5. You Only Live Twice
This is literally my fav Bond movie of all time. I have watched it so many times over the years (since 1997) and can practically quote the movie word for word!
Bond wasn't "black ops", but Ian Fleming was inspired by British commando missions of WWII that took place under his command (working for intelligence). I don't think the Bond of the books had actually been a commando.
Funny how Jonathan Pryce ended up replacing Anthony Hopkins as Elliot Carver, especially when you realize that Jonathan Pryce played Pope Francis in The Two Popes where he acts alongside Anthony Hopkins as Pope Benedict. (Pope Francis also replaced Pope Benedict, so there's that.)

@@King_scarr415 Huh, I had no idea they already covered the game. At least they liked it, thought it was the best. That's good. Thanks for pointing this out.

Just on the back of that chap from the letters in last nights Weekly Planet podcast, I didn't have as bad a time watching Die Another Day with my parents when it came to cinema, but I could feel the tension from them after the "I thought Christmas only came once a year" line. That was some New Years Eve.
11:10 - Bit more complex than Rare losing the license. They already wanted to do something around aliens under their own IP, and some of the team were sick of 007 anyway. When Nintendo did get outbid, they weren't too fussed and pressed ahead with creating Perfect Dark instead. ua-cam.com/video/7CxpdspOV5I/v-deo.html
I've been watching through all the Bond CoG videos... it's amazing to me that they've never brought up Archer during this. They even have inadvertently said some Archer-esque things. The whole "I'm just doing banter" at around 14:00 .... that's actually very close to an actual joke from Archer.
This was the first Bond movie I ever saw as a little lad. And the game was one of the few games I had back then, so I played it over and over. Thank you guys for some sweet memories!
Too bad you guys didn’t talk about the “end credit song” Surrender by KD Lang! It was the original title song called Tomorrow Never Dies & is infinitely better in my opinion. It was written by David Arnold, the best Bond composer after John Barry, so it fits in with the films score. Unfortunately the producers changed it last minute because they wanted a singer with more “heat” and popularity at the time, which is dumb & something the Broccolis have & continue to do, shelving songs and performances that are far better than what we eventually got.
That thing with Bond being a psychopath with a sheen of civility - I've always explained it as knowing which fork to use at a formal dinner, but also knowing six different ways to kill you with each one.
I am glad that you re-evaluated Tomorrow Never Dies and liked it a bit more. I thought it was great, a refreshing change. Michelle Yeoh was a different take on the "Bond girl" andthe locations and some of the fight sequences, notably the helicopter attack, were novel.
The video game was how I got introduced to James Bond and this film is the first Bond film I’ve seen, so this holds a special place in my heart. Great content as usual! I loved the bit about how the Union Jack parachute gives away the nationality of James Bond XD
i would love if in the new films at some point, Q gives the classic spiel “oh bond mate, you gotta bring the car back” *wink wink* and then after a massive battle, he just waltzes in with the car and the entire Q branch is just staring at Bond, and by the end Q just goes “thank you” and Bond nonchalantly walks away
I watched Tomorrow Never Dies on its opening weekend in the theaters. It's not my favorite Bond movie by any means, but I still like it. It's arguably the second best of the Brosnan era, though TWINE had more interesting characters. It's an above average action flick that really encapsulated the era it was made in. This was back in 1997, when action movies still used mostly practical effects and resorted to excessive, over the top, but still realistic set pieces to stand out. That motorcycle/helicopter chase is one of the best examples of it. The Internet, GPS, cell phones, and other aspects of what's now modern telecommunications were truly starting to hit their stride. There's a certain smugness permeating through the movie, and not just from the villain; it's a showcase of how far technology has come, what we can do with all these fancy new toys, and not having to worry about introspection or future consequences. That's _definitely_ a reflection of where pop culture was by the late 90s. That parking garage chase is awesome, but it really boils down to Bond basically getting giant a remote control car and reliving his childhood. Yet the day is saved not by fancy gadgetry, but the Navy doing things "the old fashioned way", thus reassuring older audiences that some things - the seemingly _right_ things - never change. Also, I found Carver interesting even back then. Not as a character, but as the concept of a modern villain. Back in 1997, most people scoffed at the idea of a mogul trying to amass power and money through the media, because it was just so different and underwhelming compared to the spies, assassins, etc. from previous Bond movies. But I understood what the movie was going for, because it seemed to be eerily plausible and more grounded in reality. Even if it was excessive and cartoonish at times, the writers were thinking ahead. It's kind of the same way audiences ridiculed the idea of the villains stealing water in Quantum of Solace; in real life, Bolivia has suffered from severe water quality and privatization issues, and the world's drinking water supply is going to be one of the biggest issues in the next 30 years.
@eating sugar no papa Nah. Goldeneye is the best by a large margin. It has the perfect balance of all the elements needed for a great film. Tomorrow Never Dies is arguably second best if you prefer action set pieces and gadgets. Its characters are too bland, save for Jonathan Pryce hamming it up as Carver. Or, TWINE is arguably second best if you prefer stronger characters (Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones notwithstanding) and a more compelling narrative. Its action scenes are lackluster, and some of its ideas fall short of their potential. Regardless, Die Another Day is the worst; the set up in the beginning could've led to something brilliant, only for the movie to piss it all away.
When you guys talk about Q wanting his cars back and bein mad at 007 honestly one of the best review jokes or jokes in general ive heard in a while i wish it would happen just once in a movie let his snap

@@King_scarr415 Huh, I had no idea they already covered the game. At least they liked it, thought it was the best. That's good. Thanks for pointing this out.
these videos have been great Nostalgia for my childhood. my Dad was working at BMW at the time of the releases, and would always bring home the bond cars and bikes to our house and we felt like the coolest kids being dropped off at school in them.
This movie was just basically The Spy Who Loved Me with China switched for the USSR. Carver is even almost as Blofeldian as Stromberg.
And The Spy Who Loved Me was You Only Live Twice but with stolen submarines instead of stolen spacecraft.
@troll randon He was played by a better actor with a better script.
@@BenCol _Moonraker_ also has a similar plot, where the bad guys steal space shuttles (if I'm remembering that right)
Die another day is just Goldfinger but with diamonds instead of gold
Thank you guys for giving us these two for one caravan of garbages with the bond videos
Tomorrow never flies?
Tomorrow never tries?
Tomorrow never fries?!!
Just on the back of that chap from the letters in last nights Weekly Planet podcast, I didn't have as bad a time watching Die Another Day with my parents when it came to cinema, but I could feel the tension from them after the "I thought Christmas only came once a year" line. That was some New Years Eve.
@@scottywelch6994 specifically as he said that line I got two premo boners, yes
Andrew Marr NICE!
11:10 - Bit more complex than Rare losing the license. They already wanted to do something around aliens under their own IP, and some of the team were sick of 007 anyway. When Nintendo did get outbid, they weren't too fussed and pressed ahead with creating Perfect Dark instead.

I've been watching through all the Bond CoG videos... it's amazing to me that they've never brought up Archer during this. They even have inadvertently said some Archer-esque things.
The whole "I'm just doing banter" at around 14:00 .... that's actually very close to an actual joke from Archer.
It genuinely is one of my favourite Bond films. Silly in all the right ways! :)
This was the first Bond movie I ever saw as a little lad. And the game was one of the few games I had back then, so I played it over and over. Thank you guys for some sweet memories!
This was my first ever Bond film, and I got a great start.
I love Michelle Yeoh. She was recently in a film called Everything Everywhere All At Once..... she's amazing in it, too.
I always thought that they used Bond more as a sledge hammer. He was the explosive to trigger the bad guy into slipping up.
First video I've seen from this channel and wasn't sure what to expect. The tone is great, the banter is better :)
Thanks Dan appreciate ya!
I would a Michelle Yeoh action franchise right now please.
14:22 I’m drunk eating nachos dying laughing at this part about Q 😂😂😂
Although kinda dumb, Tomorrow never dies is highly entertaining and a lot of fun.
How have you not done caravan of garbage or a commentary on craig bond. Whenever you talk about craig is gold
Absolutely agree, such an underrated song.
I like the scene at the party where super spy James Bond draws loads of attention to himself by basically telling the villain that he knows his plans.
Hahaha you guys should use that image of Desmond Llewelyn with an X-Box controller for all your Caravan of Garbage gaming videos! 👍😊
is it possible, it probably is, to put in footage of another game onto his screen?
@22:20 Isn't an error, but an accurate reflection of how BMW owners park their cars. That's a plus for gritty realism in this film.
Bond film 2030: Tomorrow Will Never Die Forever Golden Dr. NO

Anyone else get an ad at the exact moment that James goes “product placement”?
When I see the title of these videos, I don’t know if you’re talking about a bad or good movie.
That's what the 'Caravan of GARBAGE' bit's for!
That's all part of the game mate
Joshua Darst I get that now
That's why you have to watch the video.
Thread Bomb yes I get it now
He has diplomatic immunity. Except traffic offences are excluded.
"Need I remind you 007, you a licence to kill...not to break the traffic laws"
I have been saying for years that this film is actually pretty good.
The video game was how I got introduced to James Bond and this film is the first Bond film I’ve seen, so this holds a special place in my heart. Great content as usual! I loved the bit about how the Union Jack parachute gives away the nationality of James Bond XD
"Baey meh a paint"
i would love if in the new films at some point, Q gives the classic spiel “oh bond mate, you gotta bring the car back” *wink wink* and then after a massive battle, he just waltzes in with the car and the entire Q branch is just staring at Bond, and by the end Q just goes “thank you” and Bond nonchalantly walks away
I haven't even made it to the "leave a like" bit and I already have! Bloody got 'em!
I know they weren't as popular, but I've missed video game CoG's! Thanks so much for including the game in this video! This made my day!
7:34 The Egg Fleet music from Sonic Heroes?! Interesting music choice...
Polymathically very well said my friend.
It’s only called the Union Jack at sea, the rest of the time it’s the Union Flag. Bloody Australians 😘
