As someone who suffers from mental illness issues. I would venture to say that Joel is having an anxiety attack and not a panic attack. The difference between the two is that that a panic attack comes on suddenly, usually from some external stimulus . An anxiety attack is something that builds over time and then comes out. The anxiety, and doubt about if he could keep Ellie safe and the fact that he was coming to the realization that he was beginning to care for her, and what happened to his daughter, was slowly building in Joel, and then came to a head.

Idk if you all know this or somebody already said it in the comments, but Tommy’s girl is the same actress who was in the TWD season 9. Michonne’s friend with the assassin kids
Wise choice making Tommy a father. Helps to compare and contrast him with Joel, and points back to the thesis statement of the show. The juxtaposition between Maria and Joel was also well done. We see their tragedies side by side with Kevin and Sarah, yet Maria healed by leading a community through cooperation, while Joel healed through violence as he didn’t know any other way. Even Tommy’s relationship with both works as a parallel as Joel and Maria pull on different sides of Tommy. Tommy is a lost man looking for a home, and we see his different modes of behavior when led by Joel versus when led by Maria. Such a great dynamic.
I love the Normies reaction to the communism bit, every other American reacting channel I've seen had to express huge resentment towards that bit, like it's some kind of forbidden witchcraft. Chill, It's just a different system, you may not like it but it actually works amongst small communities. And no, communism and socialism DOES NOT equal totalitarianism and authoritarianism.
I really don’t get people. Either they’re complaining that people should learn to shoot in the apocalypse or they complain that they use too many bullets
Man what a great one, another 10/10 tbh, loved the changes, loved the things they kept the same. Joel having PTSD for loosing Sarah and now being scared af of losing Ellie, man that convo with Tommy made me emotional. The "you have no idea what loss is" dialogue was executed to PERFECTION, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are fucking killing it, they did exactly the same. Oh yeah, THE TOWN FROM TLOU 2?! HELLO, YES! (Shoutout to Dina also) They way the episode ended... man, had me crying even tho I know what's gonna happen. Pedro Pascal was the MVP this one, such a great episode, not one miss
Love when I see other game players, like myself, looking out for key scenes or devleopments. Mickys reaction to the Mr. Rebars (Joels 'closest' friend) tv equivalent was exactly what I said.
I’m glad someone gets this mans is upset cause he came across the country to find his presumably injured if not dead brother and lost HIS PARTNER in the mean time to find out no, Tommy didn’t need help. He just decided it was ok to cut Joel off indefinitely. Shit would be a huge hit, especially when all Joel has seen of his brother growing up is a guy jumping place to place looking for belonging, and running when anything goes wrong, now making the biggest commitment ever, one Joel feels like he failed at. And every day his brothers kid is alive is a day his brother is a “better dad”. I’m sorry I have a lot of Joel feels.
Ellie has such a beautiful backstory... This episode was stunning.. really feel for joel obviously..so glad he trusted tommy n so glad he gave ellie a choice.. two incredible scenes joels and ellies wow... absolutely wow
Copied from another video I made this comment but, as a Navajo, I'm loving the inclusion of different indigenous tribes in various shows/movies I've come across (Prey, Rutherford Falls, etc.) so, of course, the Wind River couple at the beginning made me laugh so hard. It's because it's EXACTLY how I would imagine some of my relatives being if they ended up being cooped up for years on end with each other; they're restless and stubborn. It's reminiscent of how some of them acted during the pandemic. lmao. But this episode was so beautifully well done especially the town of Jackson. It's such a comforting sight compared to everything else that has been shown especially in the inner cities. Pedro and Bella absolutely deserve many award nominations for their stellar work on this series. They ARE the quintessential Joel and Ellie.
In the beginning, Tommy was the fuck up, and Joel was the caregiver, provider, and protector. Suddenly, Tommy's life is on track, and Joel's is a mess. His identity is challenged while at the same time he is faced with the fact that his brother found heaven, but Joel was "the wrong kind of people" so he wasn't allowed in (and his brother agreed by his actions, regardless of what he says). Then he is becoming attached to Ellie, and he is having more panic attacks in fear of losing her, as well as him having to come to terms with his need for assistance as his body fails (again his identity of caregiver, provider, and protector is challenged when Ellie helps him, etc). It's too much, and he breaks down. The panic attacks are a perfect edition. To be fair, communism works well in smaller groups, and most countries that are claimed to be communist aren't actually communist. They are communist+fascist or communist+necrocracy+fascist or communist+capitalist, etc. Comparison is nuanced and tricky.
So the song that came back at the end from the first episode is sang by Craig Mazin (spelling?) daughter as a cover. It was much more haunting to me than the original. Small detail from the podcast
"This would suck if we ever had to live like this" Not me saving money desperately to buy land so i CAN live like this. Cabin in a snowy woodland area is the dream.
They filmed this episode in my town, Canmore, Alberta! and if you figure out if there are mountains somewhere warm please tell me, it’s freezing here all the time :’)

I am enjoying and loving the hell out of this series so much. I thought at first this was going to be another build up episode like 4 but they did a lot in this one and the ending left me shocked af. Pedro Pascal absolutely stole the episode for me. Not to take anything from Bella Ramsey at all but the scene between Joel and his brother...my goodness. I think he's a very underrated actor. I can see this show joining my list of favorites. This to me is the best HBO show to come out since GoT ended excluding mini series like Chernobyl. House of The Dragon was really surprisingly great too but I honestly think The Last of Us might just be a smidge better. Next Sunday cannot come fast enough 😫
Pedeo Pascal deserves an Emmy. Also, in the Game, the University scene was more extreme on how joel got injured. It feels a bit rushed in the show. But it still hits hard. The next episode is going to be amazing. Also, the best thing about this episode is how they subtly showed Dina 😂
I agree. This was an incredible ep and I totally get scaling back the level of action from the game, but I think that scene would've hit even harder if it had even 5 mins more of a battle before he gets stabbed. Still an 8.5 for me tho

You have four chances to take the football 10 yards forward. If you do, you get four more chances to do it again. If you ever fail then the opponent team will take over and go the opposite way. If you get into your opponent's end zone you score 6 points, a touchdown. After a touchdown you get a chance to get the ball 30 yards into between upright poles and score 1 point, an extra point. If you don't think you can get close enough to get a touchdown, you can try kicking the ball the distance between the uprights and get 3 points, a field goal. If the team without the ball, Defense, forces back the team with the ball, Offense, all the way back to the Offense's end zone and tackle one of their players holding the ball in their own end zone or if Offense commits a foul in their end zone or if Offense drops the ball in their own end zone then the Defense scores 2 points, a safety. Those are the main ways of scoring in football. That tends to be the focus of the game, advancing the football, scoring or blocking them. Understand those and you'll understand most of the game.
Tommy could've got a message to Joel to say he was safe (from elsewhere if he wanted to preserve Jackson's secrecy) and didn't bother - no wonder Joel was hurt
Loved this episode, but I thought the university part could have been a little longer. And I still don’t get why Joel pulled out the bat. In the game it made sense for him to ask Ellie to pull because it was the only option, but idk why he didn’t just leave it in in this version. Isn’t it more dangerous to pull it out? But other than that this episode was fantastic, and had some top notch character moments.
@@holysecret2 yeah that’s the only thing I could think of! Either way, wish the university section was just a TAD bit longer, but overall this didn’t really hurt my enjoyment of the episode at all. So excited to see how they handle the winter chapter of the game in the show itself

24:16 on the topic of "who else fell on rebar in a show we watched", also Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Don't remember who all watched that but I'm pretty sure it was Suraj and most of the crew on the couch here
Idk if you all know this or somebody already said it in the comments, but Tommy’s girl is the same actress who was in the TWD season 9. Michonne’s friend with the assassin kids
I could definitely watch a whole episode dedicated to that couple in the beginning of the episode, they were so damn great.
@8:40
"KIN"
"KIN"
"guys his name's Tommy"
Lmao🤣
Rick from Walking Dead also fell on rebar.
Seeing Tommy realize their communists is something I never knew I needed!
I love how the guy from the beginning of the episode that Joel and Ellie talk to is the voice actor of Rains Fall in Red Dead 2
Still cant believe the red scare has embedded itself in people even now
I really don’t get people. Either they’re complaining that people should learn to shoot in the apocalypse or they complain that they use too many bullets
Seriously, he just left a settlement that 100% makes their own rifle rounds, I’m sure he’s got plenty of ammo.
"Who else do we know who fell on rebar and lived?"
Rick Grimes
the salute at "general Direction" got me crazy , lovely tribute to HIMYM.....you guys are awesome @thenormies
HELLO, YES! (Shoutout to Dina also)
They way the episode ended... man, had me crying even tho I know what's gonna happen.
The couple in the beginning was so accurately native it was amazing
Ellie has such a beautiful backstory... This episode was stunning.. really feel for joel obviously..so glad he trusted tommy n so glad he gave ellie a choice.. two incredible scenes joels and ellies wow... absolutely wow
Absolutely love they made joel more human.. hurts so bad but fk it makes sence that scen woth tommy and ellie was utterly incredible truly ❤
The scenes where they ride through the country reminded me so much of Red Dead Redemption 2, I loved it so much! I had to play RDR2 again after that.
I've already cried for three hours watching LOU ep6. Am I going to watch this again and cry for god knows how long?
Yes
8:05 Alexandria wishes they had gates like these
compared to this, their walls are made of paper
Which is weird because the Alexandria walls were Metal, weren't they?
@@blackroomrob4205 lmao yep
Joel n tommy just did some of the best acting ever..then ellie with he everyone's left bar you..was an amazing episode
The Normie Travelling Van would basically be like "Station 11" (which, if you haven't watch, you should, it's tremendous)
24:17 Rick fell onto rebar as well in TWD lol
Small detail from the podcast
i also thought that bridge looked the same as the quiet place's! nice mention
Your "General Direction" Reactions got me because I've been doing the same since the show HIMYM 😂😂
When that guitar track came on with the horse ride…. All I could do was feel the emotions and think of what’s to come
"This would suck if we ever had to live like this"
Not me saving money desperately to buy land so i CAN live like this. Cabin in a snowy woodland area is the dream.
They filmed this episode in my town, Canmore, Alberta! and if you figure out if there are mountains somewhere warm please tell me, it’s freezing here all the time :’)
Thanks for letting your cute doggo stay through the episode this time! 😊
Great reactions as always. I love all the changes they have done for the show. Maria, Tommy, and the native couple were Great in this episode. This is definitely Pedro Pascal's for your consideration episode for the Emmys.
Hello fellow Big Brother and Survivor fan 😏

Big Brother Canada and Survivor 44 start soon 🥳

Its so dumb but had me dying at 18:03 and joel said general direction? And suraj and chris salute🤣🤣
Bellas pronunciation of that entire acen os so chef kiss.. and pedros vulnerability previous scene is wow.. in terms of episode and acolades this ranks higher than bill n frank..fk things boit to change am so glad they kept that scene ver bantim.. ppwerful.. eesh
18:02 Damn! HIMYM ahah
"it's an older code but it checks out"
Fun fact the credit song is the show runners daughter singing, highly recommend listening to the podcast on UA-cam hosted by Troy Baker, Neil druckmann and Craig Mazin
Those tape scene was so significant with the games. Even it is not used just like in the game, but still they used it for something. The 1st time they used was on Tess's feet.
Loved the DINA cameo!!!
I’m actually shocked that you didn’t come up with Rick Grimes first( or at all, it turns out)when asking who got injured with rebar.
Rick grimes from twd fell on rebar and you guys mentioned Andrew Lincoln earlier in the video.
I think the reason he took it out is because in this world, its far more dangerous to lead smth to possible infection/disease than risk bleeding out. Theres almost no medicine, but theres a chance you survive if you dont need it
the fellowship of the ring part killed me!😂
6:15 it IS the quit place bridge

“I’m not asleep I’m resting my eyes”

its great seeing the community of Jackson live
Was literally waiting for this from India at 4 fucking AM. Thank you guys ❤️
If you've seen Northern Exposure, the 2 people in the cabin would be a much bigger deal.
Agreed what a great performance
Gotta love Marketa, she is such and empath.
If Chris and Marketa don't join the cult, the communal tribunal will form an executive committee to study the feasibility of forming an investigatory committee to review the circumstances of the situation.
This show is incredible.. bella and pedro just acted in an iconic scene and it was glorious,.. bella is about to absolutely destroy everyone..whats coming will go down as theeeee greatest scene ever recorded on tv... Joel has one to and its so beautiful..but bella is about to pop off .i can't believe how this show did what it did... Amazing
I'd say the best thing about this adaption is that it its a journey, not a destination.
Maybe he was in shock and didn't think clearly
@@holysecret2 yeah that’s the only thing I could think of! Either way, wish the university section was just a TAD bit longer, but overall this didn’t really hurt my enjoyment of the episode at all. So excited to see how they handle the winter chapter of the game in the show itself
@@Mahan1372 agreed! Excited and worried, but hopeful.
@@holysecret2 People who work in the ER always say taking it out is the worst thing you can do, but it also is your first instinct to pull it out. You just do it without thinking.
@@piggyintheshadows Ahh got it that makes sense! Always wondered about that, thanks for the clarification :)
