Tommy coming in after that fight and saying "I know you are happy for me, it's complicated for you, I'm sorry" might be the highest level of emotional intelligence between dudes I've seen on TV. Love it.
Not only that, but after seeing how much Joel was broken he accepted the task to take Ellie even thought he's going to be a father. What a incredible little brother
@@evilolivias Facts, it really gets me to buy into their brotherhood and that they care for each other. It also makes them seem smarter to me, because I think it's dumb to repress things like that
I love how once Joel committed to take her, the flip was switched and he was all in. You could catch glimpses of how much he cared before that and he admits as much, but his behavior with her once they leave Jackson feels like his behavior with Sarah. He's fully accepted that she's like a daughter to him now.
We saw a glimpse of that when he was at Henry & Sam’s graves, as he processed what had just happened. He came to terms with the hard truth that he would not survive losing a child again, even though he wasn’t ready to admit at the time that he cares deeply for Ellie. When he gives her the choice of whether to go with him or Tommy, it’s a complete cop-out. He knows Tommy is more capable than he is, but can’t let her go. So he gives her the out knowing she will take it. Because just as Ellie says she needs Joel, he needs her just as much.
This may seem like such a minuscule detail to some but as a woman, it genuinely means a lot that you 3 constantly shed light on equality and don’t shy away from “taboo” feminine issues. The fact that you kept in the menstrual cup scene in this reaction and discussed its efficacy was just such a small but cool moment; especially since so many men act childish around these issues. Joel was on a "suicide mission" basically which caused him to lose everything, start dealing with his trauma all over again because Tommy chose Maria and the town. His anger towards Tommy is totally understandable.
I'm surprised Joel wasn't more angry at Tommy. Tommy and Joel clearly had a system on the radios. You're telling me he couldn't radio his brother ONCE in months just because his new wife wouldn't approve?

If Pedro Pascal is not nominated for best actor at every awards show this year THEN NO ONE DESERVES TO BE NOMINATED!!!! This was perhaps my most anticipated episode of the season and somehow it’s BETTER THAN THE GAME! Jackson looks beautiful and Gabriel Luna is as perfectly cast as Tommy as Pedro is for Joel. But what really got me were scenes of Joel clutching his heart from panic attacks and looking up to see a young woman who almost looks like Sarah, and when he was telling Tommy the truth that he believed that he was going to fail Ellie and get her killed. When Joel was getting teary eyed I cried at that scene, but when we got to my absolute favorite dramatic scene in the game when Joel and Ellie are talking about loss I lost it. That was my most anticipated scene of the entire series and not only did it live up to the hype, it exceeded it. And just like the game it broke me.😭😭😭😭

Great Easter egg catch by Hector for the name of the movie being “The Goodbye Girl” right before the conversation where Joel tries to pass Ellie off to Tommy. That’s a great detail I didn’t know until now
I loved how they used a cover of the Depeche Mode song from the end of ep 1. The opening lyric “I’m taking a ride with my best friend.” feels so different between ep 1 and ep 6. And the tone of the Depeche Mode version fits the creepiness of going out into post-apocalypse Boston vs. the tone of this cover (by Craig Mazin’s 18yr old daughter btw) being so somber. The music choices in this show are just as good as the rest of it.
It's amazing how much we learn about Joel this episode. How he feels weak and helpless when he's losing control over his emotions. How much he needs to be THE guy to handle things and protect people, he was so jealous of Maria and Tommy for not only surviving but living. As Tommy said, they used to survive the only way they knew how and for Joel this is the only way he can survive and keep his feelings burried. I can relate to his panic attacks so much and it's so clear why he got them. It's so interesting to see how much control his trauma has about him and how he fails to make emotional mature decisions, because of it. he just gets selfish and a little aggressive. Hector, from someone that's played the games to someone that's playing now. The series is doing a pretty damn good job of emulating what the game did! Saying nothing about the next episode but gamers know what the title means😉
One of the best moments in TLoU Ellie and Joel. I'm sure excited Hector will find out how it was in the game, and cant wait to hear his opinion when he talks about it on the next episode.
I agree… the Joel + tommy reunion verse. Joel + Ellie relationship at this point… makes you feel like Joel and Ellie are more family than Joel and tommy (or rather that Joel and Ellie are closer art this point in time). Of course Joel and tommy are blood… but tommy has a wife and new kid on the way… and Joel has ellie. In the beginning of the season Joel says he keeps going for family (and says that is tommy) but now Joel keeps going for family but that now means ellie. No spoilers, but that concept is important for everything else that happens in the story. (Plus: Joel becomes a zombie when his daughter dies… just shambling through life dead inside… but Ellie is the cure)
Another great reaction! My wife wanted me to do a wellness check on y’all earlier today, she was worried we hadn’t heard from you guys in a minute. So I’m thrilled that you’re back and getting just as emotionally distraught and anxious over this show as ever. ;)
I love that Hector is playing the game now! I agree that the changes the show makes adds even more to the greatness of the story. And it really makes sense. The creator of the game is doing the show. He literally is given a second chance to improve on his own story. And he's been doing that brilliantly so far. Plus, Craig Mazin is an amazing writer who also adores the source material. In a behind the scenes clip Neil Druckmann said "When we have an idea to change something, we look at it and its effect. If it is better than what's in the game, we make the change. If it's the same quality or worse, we stick to the original." Simple principal, executed perfectly.
I wonder what emotional change would happen after this now that Joel's fear really did happen. I'm sure he'll recover but he's now left Ellie vulnerable and can't protect her anymore because he's losing consciousness.
@@djoscartj They're talking about the song playing during Joel and Ellie's horse ride, the one that was "too happy", it's called The Path (A New Beginning)

Fun fact: the people that you guys noticed at the end of the snowy bridge, who you thought were enemies, is actually the film crew 😂 they messed up and forgot to edit themselves out haha cool that you noticed, good eye
Appreciate y’all, and these reactions. And I love Hector’s comments. Sure, sometimes they talk over bits it’d be cool for them to see/feel, but presumably everyone watching this has already seen the episode. We’re hear for their thoughts/reactions.
Having gone through the game tens of times way back when and loving almost every little detail, it’s taken significant effort to watch the show and not automatically think “the game did it better”. Recognizing that it may be partly because that came first for me, I’ve wondered if people who experience the show first then play the game would actually like the show more, and while it’s tough for me to fully understand I really appreciate hearing that specific sentiment here!
i think it was last episode that hector said something about "how much of this story is going to be just bleakness, is there any hope to be found" and i think the big hope is the town of jackson. a safe place where people have everything they need still being possible is amazing
Pedro's performance in this episode really cemented that he chose the correct vocation. I have only been affected by a performance like that a few times recently Beast of No Nation and Moonlight come to mind. I really liked the touch at the end, they play a cover of the same Depeche Mode song from Ep1 but a cover. it's 80s means trouble in a totally different way. Last 3 episodes are going to be bonkers.
I’ve literally played the game hundreds of times but knowing what’s coming hasn’t spoiled the show at all, the performances & writing are so good you get locked into it & without realizing it your on the edge of you’re seat.

There are bunch of people standing to the left of that bridge! Right at the edge of the screen. I rewatched that scene after Adam mentioned it. Didn't notice the first time, nice catch!
Two things, one i love how you guys really dig into the emotions and the dialogue of characters, not just with this but also the marvel stuff and mando. The action is cool, but you guys really focus on the dialogue and emotions and i freaking love that. 2….there’s just something about when adam breaks out in laughter, i might have missed the joke but I can’t help but laugh the same🤣🤣
Great to see Rutina Wesley again, haven't seen her since the 'True Blood' days! Graham Greene & Elaine Miles were excellent! Both Joel & Tommy sure do love themselves some chocolate :)
Song playing at the end of the episode was a remake of the 80’S SONG first heard at the end of episode one when over looking a torn down Boston. “DANGER” ahead…
It's always fun to see you suffering during each of these incredible episodes, just like the rest of us, but I especially enjoy your collective appreciation of all the talent by both cast and crew that make this brilliant game adaptation SO GOOD!

So I’m thrilled that you’re back and getting just as emotionally distraught and anxious over this show as ever. ;)
You have no idea how happy I am to see more people openly talking about fanfiction lol. Thank you for that.
Hector, I feel you. I literally started writing a fanfiction where everything goes okay because I needed it to deal with the upcoming episodes lmao
I wonder what emotional change would happen after this now that Joel's fear really did happen. I'm sure he'll recover but he's now left Ellie vulnerable and can't protect her anymore because he's losing consciousness.
Hector, it’s funny that when you said “I want this to be the series finale” the song that was playing was the song that plays in the game’s ending.
It's a cover of Depeche Mode's "Never Let Me Down Again" (from the ending of the 1st episode), right?
@@djoscartj it’s called “The Path (A New Beginning)” by Gustavo Santaolalla.
@@djoscartj They're talking about the song playing during Joel and Ellie's horse ride, the one that was "too happy", it's called The Path (A New Beginning)
@@CataRDJ Got it. Thought they were talking about the very end, which could have also been a "good" season finale (never played the game)
I think Tommy was very selfish. Joel worried about him and he couldn't even bother to let Joel know he was fine.
As a game player, this episode was great because it had a lot of surprising nods to the sequel that I wasn't expecting.
'I love it, but I don't wike it' is such a vibe with this show.
The actress playing Graham Greene's wife at the beginning (Elaine Miles) played Marilyn on the show "Northern Exposure", one of my favorite characters.
guy in the flannel don't talk over the dialogue so much, just watch and be in the moment. save it for after. 😭
The rising concern over how nice the ep feels and wishing it could all end here, the true last of us experience XD
I had no idea that was Graham Greene! Holy shit! He plays Arlen Bitterbuck in The Green Mile and is one of my favorite "side" characters ever.
Fun fact: the people that you guys noticed at the end of the snowy bridge, who you thought were enemies, is actually the film crew 😂 they messed up and forgot to edit themselves out haha cool that you noticed, good eye
Dances with Wolves! I knew that guy in the cabin looked familiar. He was the chief on that reservation where the lady was from I think.
"TOMMY!" almost made me tear up
i think it was last episode that hector said something about "how much of this story is going to be just bleakness, is there any hope to be found" and i think the big hope is the town of jackson. a safe place where people have everything they need still being possible is amazing
Actually Ellie’s hands at the end made me cry.
Yoooo Hector is playing the game that's great ! He'll be able to share so much context with the lads!!
I’ve literally played the game hundreds of times but knowing what’s coming hasn’t spoiled the show at all, the performances & writing are so good you get locked into it & without realizing it your on the edge of you’re seat.
this has to be the funniest reaction to the episode ive seen. "i want this to be the series finale, roll the credits!" like thats all of us AND I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!! HAHAHA also chugging monster is not the best idea when youre stressed af haha
How many times do we need to tell you we haven’t played the game?
Hector: Yeah well about that.
2….there’s just something about when adam breaks out in laughter, i might have missed the joke but I can’t help but laugh the same🤣🤣
Love that Hector is playing along as we go through the season, good luck keeping yourself from playing part 2 until season 2!!!
Love the acting and cinematography
The brick campus they walk through is where I went to college (SAIT)
Not only Graham Greene but Elaine Miles as his wife, she played Marylin in Northern exposure
and Graham Greene played her cousin in the series so this is actually a reunion.
@@michaeljeacock omg you're right! I obviously need a rewatch
Great to see Rutina Wesley again, haven't seen her since the 'True Blood' days! Graham Greene & Elaine Miles were excellent! Both Joel & Tommy sure do love themselves some chocolate :)
Adam was right. the drone shot at the bridge accidentally caught the camera crew hiding in the woods lol.
That lady in the cabin during the beginning....she is the same who played the clinic nurse on a series called.. "Northern Exposure".
Song playing at the end of the episode was a remake of the 80’S SONG first heard at the end of episode one when over looking a torn down Boston. “DANGER” ahead…
At 7:06, looks like Adam had it right with spotting someone at the end of the bridge. Actually there's two sets of people. Funny!
It's always fun to see you suffering during each of these incredible episodes, just like the rest of us, but I especially enjoy your collective appreciation of all the talent by both cast and crew that make this brilliant game adaptation SO GOOD!
This was my favorite episode had the most used music from the game and had so many game moments
You know what is beautiful the scene were they sitin at the table eatin and when he ask maria too leave so its only family notice that joel didn’t ask ellie too leave🥹🥹🥹
Finally! I've been waiting. You guys have the best reactions. Love to see the perspective from people who never played the games. Are you planning on playing the game together somehow? That would make for an excellent series!
They joked last reaction if they reach certain milestone. Don't know how serious about they were
We said we'd play through the game if we got to 200k subs by March. It's not looking good for the playthrough 😞
@@HeroesReforged Ah that sucks! I say do it anyways I definitely think it would boost your subcount. People love seeing new reactions.
If Hector is playing the original game or Part 1, he should really try and complete the Left Behind DLC before next Sunday's episode.
20:15 - 20:25 awwwww guys, just prep yourselves🙃
You kept us waiting!!! Excited to watch!
I am so happy Hector is playing the game! ❤
Jeez. Hector needs to tone down talking especially on scenes that require your full attention. He also needs to stop analyzing scenes that just happened. Take them all in at once and analyze them when you already saw the full episode.
adam is correct about someone being at the foot of the bridge, lmao. its the entire crew they forgot to edit out of the shot 😭"starbucks cup" strikes again
Maybe it was Maria's guys following them until it was time to show themselves? 😜
10:33 That's supposed to be Dina, Ellie's future gf who shows up in Part 2
we ask questions like “i wonder if joel feels tommy’s responsible for Sarah’s death” other than watch the actual reunion and peep all the signs that Maria doesn’t like joel. The story is being told to you . don’t make your own 🫡
I hope you guys can get a moderator for the comments, people are leaving spoilers willy-nilly without tagging it. Keep safe guys
I was waiting for this 🥺
Sameeeee
I love watching your guys' reviews. It's SO good.
