This channel is everything I've always wanted when it comes to watching old stock car races. Love those old cars, love the personalities, love it all. Thank you, NASCAR Classics! :D
This was an incredible entertaining race. It had a little bit of everything that made NASCAR great; lead changes, fuel mileage strategy, pit road performance, hard charging racers, bumping/ rubbing. This all made for excellent racing drama! Not only that, the best racers and owners NASCAR ever had with the likes of; Richard “The King”, Cale, David “The Silver Fox”, Bobby, Donnie and Neil (The Alabama Gang),Buddy “The Gentle Giant”, Ricky “Ironman”, Darrell “Jaws”, “High Groove” Harry, Dale “The Intimidator”, Terry “The Iceman”, “Buffet” Benny, Tim “Hollywood” and Junior Johnson “The Last American Hero” among many other greats! Thanks for sharing this race!
@@jefferyrobertson7520 Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett & Benny Parsons in the booth will always be the gold standard of race announcing. That team was the absolute best.

Hard to believe that Jenkins looked so young, ever. Also Richard Childress car looked like he had just rented it from Hertz. I hear they did that when they filimed the movies "Redline 7000" and "Speedway".
POINT STANDINGS and WINS before the 1981 CAROLINA 500 (4 of 31): #43 Richard Petty (510pts with 1 win, Buick) #2 Dale Earnhardt (-39, Pontiac) #28 Bobby Allison (-51 with 1 win, Chevrolet) #88 Ricky Rudd (-54, Oldsmobile) #90 Jody Ridley (-76, Ford) #75 Joe Millikan (-105, Buick) #47 Harry Gant (-148, Buick) #11 Darrell Waltrip (-153 with 1 win, Buick) #15 Benny Parsons (-170, Ford) Labonte (#44 Buick) was 14th so far while Cale Yarborough (#11 Oldsmobile) decided to move down to a partial schedule. Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. Yes, I’m using the unsponsored names of the races. In Rockingham’s case, the Spring race was the Carolina 500 while the Fall one was the American 500.
I was sitting on the backstretch with my dad. Near the end, I was thinking, "Maybe Richard has enough gas." I was wrong. Ouch. NASCAR: bring back the Rock and I will attend my first race since 2015! I haven't even watched one on TV since 2018!
I can count a bunch of ways why that product is so much better than the crap that they want us to watch today. Let's start with the cars....they are recognizable as actual stock cars. The pit stops are much more interesting and much less robotic. Work is more manual in the pits giving more room for error. There is no speed limit on pit road. Those are just a few of the things.
Miss that place!! Would love NASCAR to go back!!!! 🏁🏆👍
The first ESPN broadcast. Also, Eli Gold before TNN!

...and all that without stage interruptions! Fascinating!
And yet if it happened yesterday many "fans" would call it a snoozefest, I'm pretty sure
In March of 1981 the magic at ESPN began.

Hey Nascar….Eli Gold isnt calling Alabama sports anymore get him to come call something (throwback weekend anybody??)
That is an outstanding idea!! 💪 You listening NASCAR???
ESPN's first NASCAR broadcast. The start of the magic.
Funny, when NedJarret does his pit report sounds like he is talking into a large slurpie cup.
I think his son Glenn was in this race
What a finish! You wont get that in Modern Nascar. There is no such thing as fuel strategy when the stage breaks eliminate it.
🏁Enjoyed!! 🏁
Love that we get to watch these races too
Sitting here some "43" year's later & it actually hurts as much now as it did live in 81...😭
#434EVER
Video and sound quality are fabulous for 1981. Great job!
17 out of 38 finished in 1980 and he says that's not much attrition...wow😂
Posting a lot of Rockingham races lately...
Been posting a good bit of these old Rockingham races. Could be foreshadowing????? Mayyyybbbeee? 🤞🤞
Young Eli Gold, i could pick his voice out anywhere one of my all time favorite announcers
Great race later Eli got a microphone. I miss these races. Thanks for sharing.
Marcus Smith needs to give up the all star race and have the all start race here.

I closed my eyes and thought I was listening to Eli Gold on MRN. Always been a big fan of Eli's.

If they can race at the LA colisium, they can race here. Rockingham, a great race track.
Eli Gold’s glasses fashioned from stock bumpers
Does Cale have a window net? Or is it so thin that you can see Cale so clear.

Petty tried to push through like he did in Richmond. Just not enough gas.
Ahh man, The unmarked car beat Tony Stewart. Matt Kenseth.
Make it happen. Change the rules.
An RX-7 pace car is kinda random
One hour away, from charlotte, go down there and test.
The back of the car is a truck, lol.
@1:26:35 what is that pace car
1981 Mazda RX7
@@ShortTrackNewsthanks! I imagine the crowd wasn’t celebrating a Mazda leading the pace.
