    00:00 Introduction
    00:48 Audio Examples
Baby Audio have just dropped a new synth called Atoms. It's super wonky... in the best way possible! Instead of dwelling on the feature set, just listen to the sounds of the randomizer. So good!
    Synthesis from the other side
Atoms is a new kind of synth plugin that utilizes cutting edge physical modeling to generate an endless variety of organic and otherworldly sounds. Use it to build naturally rich textures that the world hasn’t heard before.
    Discover Atoms
Complex Physics In A Simple Package
Physical modeling simulates the behavior of real life instruments. However, Atoms takes you beyond what’s possible in the natural world. Its features are complex enough to explore the outer bounds of sound design, yet so simple that you can easily mangle, shape and create.
At its core, Atoms is powered by a simulation of interconnected masses and springs with tweakable properties and dimensions. The model is triggered by a virtual bowing action that excites the system and makes it vibrate to generate sound.
    A Living Organism
Nothing in the natural world is ever truly static. Physical modeling adopts this trait by generating sounds that have the same organic fluctuations as acoustic instruments.
But Atoms takes it further. Its six main parameters can be automated with a selection of powerful motion options to add extra life. This lets you create soundscapes that are constantly re-generating, like a natural organism.
If you’re used to working with sample libraries, Atoms will bring a new level of otherworldly realism into your tracks.
Program New Patches With A Click
Atoms comes equipped with a powerful randomization engine. At its heart is a musically calibrated algorithm that selectively adjusts each parameter based on its relationship to the others, giving you usable patches with every roll of the dice.
You can narrow the algorithm further by limiting the random ranges for any knob or locking parameters from changing.
Finally, the Recycle button is a second randomizer that will create new patches similar to the current patch. Once you have a sound you like, click recycle to explore related options.
    Physically Modeled Effects
The bottom panel gives you a range of creative effects to further sculpt your sound. You can also choose between four sonic profiles, each offering a different calibration of the mass spring network simulation that powers Atoms.
With the exception of Space (reverb), all effects in the bottom panel are created by altering the physical model itself, as opposed to adding a separate FX chain. This gives you a range of unique modulation effects that are an inherent part of the physical model and sound naturally pleasing.

it just sounds like someone keeps randomizing the parameters on the same old Roland Juno

Maybe it's just me being an old fart but each random selection had a common theme - detune modulation. Definitely a taste thing but I was hoping for more variety.

You can actually set what is randomised on an individual basis so things like the chaos and the vibrato can be left out if you don't want the detuned stuff.

    Hmm. Very artifact-y.
Not sure I can see much use in it personally.
This is a good demonstration though.

It's def got a character to it. I enjoy most of it... especially for just hitting the random button. And, thanks for your compliment :) - JC

I think its cool, although i wouldnt have gotten it if it wasnt bundled with polymax and on intro sale...
Overall the sounds are very unique and its a shame people are more open to them, main issue why so many companies just redesign the mini moog and jupiter 8 over and over, I get it though - this is more for cinematic and industrial producers. As a string enjoyer myself I think it sounds really cool and I have never heard something get the kind of low end atoms produces aside from the literal Chellos it aims to physically model. After playing around with it a bit I find it pretty easy to form some nifty industrial patches that would otherwise take a half hour of processing to achieve. Pretty musical too if you turn down choas and vibrato. Different strokes for different people though I guess
I just wish there were some more options like a sub menu that allows you to control some globals like pitchwheel range and maybe some more filter options - you know at least a high pass and band pass option and maybe make it so the resonate button was draggable so you can have control over the resonance while still maintaining the "exploration" thing they were going for
personally I support it, we need more companies to start exploring different techniques instead of rehashing the same thing over and over and no that doesnt include combining all of the techniques into one giant sandbox like pigments or phaseplant. Physical modelling is slept on, same with that sample masking thing iris 2 had or that weird wavetable(?) positioning thing that gladiator has

Love all plugins from Baby audio. But unfortunately this one is not for me. Don't like how it sounds.
But this video is really great 😊.

Very interesting tones coming from that synth I'm presume that you can edit the sounds

I know some folks immediately don’t like Atoms (and I get that) but when you layer Atoms with another Atoms or other synth, add Spaced Out.. it is sublime and soooo expressive. The modulation is a bit heavy initially but it’s easy to limit and tone down. Baby Audio products are truly fantastic.

sounds the same as every other soft synth with the same features at this point just go with synth that has the gui you work best with. im fine sticking with the 100 soft synthsd i have. feel absolutely no need to get this. cymatics keys and cradle audio the prince and other cradle stuff. those are innovative products. not a bad plugin and i like baby audio just seems redundant in 2024

so the physical modeling synth is just same old bs but a couple of mediocre ROMplers are innovative products? maybe next time you have an opinion on something you should just back pocket that bad boy

i already have multiple physical modeling synths as well. chromaphone being a perfect example of a great one that is more unique and niche and deserves a spot in my plugin library. this synth offers nothing new other than gui and possibly routing etc

i dont like giving bad reviews but i must say its the worst plugin i have ever purchased. i didnt realise the lack of control you have over the sounds and theres nothing special about it that other synths could do . the sounds are harsh to the ears . even heavy processing is a hassle getting them to sound good in a mix . even if it were a free synth , i would have uninstalled it . suppose you cant please everyone and this is just my opinion . im sure plenty of people disagree
