    I live in Arizona and we catch the same size crayfish in the canals down stream from the Palo-Verdi Nuclear Power Plant. We fish for them at night because they glow in the dark. The meat kind of makes your gums bleed and your hair fall out but they taste pretty good.
    Well, I'm off to my chemo-therapy treatments. Happy fishing mates.

    These crayfish tell their friends about being abducted by strange aliens onboard a ship and being probed and analyzed before being released. Of course their friends don't believe them.

    • @GavinClarkdiy
      @GavinClarkdiy  6 років тому +15

      I think we are just trying to keep the numbers up, there are bag limits and other rules around catching them, all for a very good reason, let's not let the numbers get too low. I don't think there is anybody farming them.

    • @sherismith7617
      @sherismith7617 6 років тому +17

      I think they take so long to get big that it becomes not worth it to farm them. Farming is all about having a high output:input ratio, and these bad boys just don't add up. They're great for catching them in the wild, where mother nature raises them for 18 to 60 years, but not great for farming.

      @bobbofly 5 років тому

      @@dodgyhodgie734 Yeah, that'd be why I said "matter of TIME." & yes, someone will eventually sneak a bunch of these across the pond. It is, as I said, a matter of time. It'll likely start in a body of water or river naturally low in predators specific to crayfish, & snowball out from there. 20 years is a pittance in the overall picture.

      Gavin Clark
      Anytime. You are blessed with such fantastic Ocean Lobster size, fresh water crayfish.
      Please keep doing what you all do to protect insure future generations of the Murray Crayfish.
      BTW, can you legally keep females without visible eggs? How do the crayfish taste?

    • @GavinClarkdiy
      @GavinClarkdiy  7 років тому +1

      Yes, you can keep them if they don't have eggs, but there is a strict cray season and you need to be inside these dates, They also state which rivers and where you can fish for cray, there are minimum and a maximum size limit, and also limits as to how many you can catch and also possession limits. Now you ask what do they taste like? Well for the size of them they don't have a lot of meat, but it's sweet meat and has a taste of its own.

      I live in Tasmania; we have the largest species of freshwater crayfish in the world. The Tasmanian freshwater crayfish live to around 70 years old and can measure up to 40 inches (1 metre) long stretched out and weigh upwards of 6 kilograms (13 pounds). They eat mostly rotting wood and leaves and invertebrates. The Tasmanian freshwater crayfish is the largest species in the world and the Murray River crayfish comes in at number two. Both species are rare and protected.

    Telecom rope. Awesome crays.
    Used to swim in dams filled with small crays (robusta?) that were blue coloured. When we'd go underwater we could hear thousands of 'clicks' all in unison. My mates and I believed it was the crays clicking their claws, but never found out how they make the noise for sure. Anyway, good vid.

    Here we call them crawdaddies. Just fyi, release females with eggs right away. Stressing them tio much can cause them to release them and/or eat them. The eggs also dry out pretty fast which kills them. Wasn't sure if you knew. Great video. ☺

    Wow, I just discovered that the Murray is about 2500 kilometers long, or about 1500 miles...
    What's the fishing like there? How far up from the outlet at the sea are the crayfish?
    Just curious, I live on another continent; but I was just wondering...

      The Murray River system is the eleventh longest river in the world. The water (especially downstream) is very murky. We have a real problem with European carp in the river system and they outcompete the native fish. You should look up the Murray cod (they get pretty bloody big).

  • @polarboarder
    @polarboarder 6 років тому

    That was awesome. Are Murray Crayfish fresh water only and are they a relative of the crayfish family? Look forward to your answer. Cheers

    • @GavinClarkdiy
      @GavinClarkdiy  6 років тому +1

      Yes, they are freshwater only. The Murray crayfish, Euastacus armatus, is a species of freshwater crayfish endemic to Australia and belongs to the family Parastacidae

      I have no idea, the water is quite deep and it is quite cold down there, We are on the Murray River in Australia and they live in various places along it and a few other rivers also, you may have to google it, sorry I can't help you.
