This was the game that officially solidified the Bucs-Panthers rivalry. We have to remember that, not two years earlier, both teams were in different divisions (Tampa in the NFC Central and Carolina in the NFC West). In 2002, when the league realigned, the Bucs won the Super Bowl, but their primary division rival that year was Atlanta with Michael Vick's electric play. Then in Week 2 of 2003, the Panthers shock the Bucs in their home opener after the Bucs missed an extra point at the end of regulation that would've won the game. Flash forward eight weeks later and we get this gem of a game, and the two teams have hated each other ever since.
Those 2 games were the definition of the 2003 season. First a block PAT and OT loss, then giving up a TD on a drive that took less than 1min. Yeah, also that IND comeback loss. That sunk a team that could have been relevant for a few years pretty fast.
I don’t know what was more obnoxious and peak Fox: the laser blast sound every snap or the booth of “Mitchell”-era Joe Buck, along with both Aikman AND Collinsworth
Collinsworth is the best part of that booth. I don’t know why people hate him, he is hilarious and knowledgeable. The goofiness for me is a pro, not a con. That’s what color commentators are supposed to be.
@tommyl.dayandtherunaways820 Collinsworth is annoying, his goofiness is cringy, his stupid chuckle and "here's a guy" quote are why people don't like him and never liked him
This channel's great. Completely debunks everyone who says "bandwagon." Carolina was nice from '03-'05 with Jake Delhomme. I went to school with Dan Morgan at JP Taravella in Coral Springs,Florida. He was our rb and played for the U as a linebacker where he played the same position for Carolina. Great rivalry for both teams.
The Bucs wern't good this season though, yes they were defending champions but they were very average this year. Both Carolina and New Orleans were better than Tampa this year
cortezmauricio56 I’m just saying Vikings because Brees wouldn’t be as loyal to Miami as he is to New Orleans, and since the Vikings have had qb trouble and reportedly offered Brees a huge contract in 2018 offseason that Brees declined why not. It’s fun to think about.
You have to be kidding me.. Aaron Brooks by this time was already a much better and established quarterback than Delhomme was and it wasn't even close. Brooks had a playoff win under his belt in just his second season against the white hot Rams and 2003 was Brook's best season as a starter with a 24/8 TD/INT. Meanwhile Jake while becoming a decent quarterback had a 19/16 season. The workload came from the defense and the running game of which Stephen Davis had 1400 yards so to say it was a mistake for the Saints is a definite lie.
Some more ideas for this week: Colts-Titans 2003 week 14 (the two co MVPs) Chiefs-Raiders: 1999 season finale, 2005 week 9 (Larry Johnson last second TD) Cowboys-Redskins 2012 (either game)
Before the Williams-Stewart Double Trouble tandem, we had Davis-Foster. If they could've each been healthy together, Carolina's championship window could've been open longer, especially with how good Foster had gotten in '05 before he got hurt again
Kyle Adrien How did they soften up? They played their asses off against a damn near unbeatable team and almost won one of the greatest SB’s ever? I think NE would make anyone “soften” some but if you mean they were just “soft” then I must respectfully disagree.
The Colts comeback was something but this was probably the end of the legendary Bucs defense they got torched this game. They were a good defense for a few years after but never were they the same as the 2002 team.
Despite the fact we won, Delhomme looked absolutely awful. Overthrew Steve Smith and got picked off which was returned for a pick six, and then after Tampa just got a score, he threw yet ANOTHER pick. Glad enough to say that the defense and the rest of the offense bailed him out
risky fap It’s such a shame that all he’s gonna be remembered for is that kickoff in the SB. He was such a reliable kicker who made shitloads of clutch FG’s for us for many years. I’d so love to have had him theses last few years over Gano.
Only god was watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wear their white uniforms and pewter pants and played an NFL game with the eventual Super Bowl 38 runner-up, the Carolina Panthers in Week 10 of the 2003 NFL season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers-🏈 AFC West (1976) NFC Central (1977 - 2001) NFC South (2002 - present) Carolina Panthers-🏈 NFC West (1995 - 2001) NFC South (2002 - present)
I absolutely love Cam Newton, but Jake Delhomme, man, he was my favorite Panthers QB of all time. Jake wasn’t better than Cam, but dammit if the 2003 Panthers (11-5) face the 2015 Panthers(15-1), the 2003 Panthers would win. My fellow Panther fans know what I mean.
Wow. The refs screwed Tampa Bay on several calls. At least 2 roughing/personal fouls uncalled, defensive holding, and that catch by Keyshawn Johnson was a catch.
The catch call was nuts. People complain about the refs now but that wasn't even close. It was clearly a catch Then the ref gave an overly descriptive explanation of what they say happened. lol Like they were trying to convince people.
Panthers were a scary team to play. I knew if Tampa was going to get a victory, they had to have a great offensive game plan helped out with many lucky breaks and the Panthers offense had to throw 2+ Interceptions, several big mistakes(not blocking a pass rusher for an easy sack, possible big runs ruined by running backs tripping over their own players receivers dropping easy deep balls, receivers running wrong routes. ,and multiple fumbles. When the Panthers offense and defense were playing at their best, tampa bay need to be flawless and many miracles
God I keep having to remind myself the bucs won a superbowl, it almost feels like a blip in their history, like 0-26 to start, a lot of wasted years wearing orange, an all time great defense wins a championship, then right back to irrelevance
Ahhh, the fall of the champs. from a super bowl to 7-9. egos were very high on this team, too many kept trying to get on sportscenter instead of the proper play.
Well Tampa’s current title defense is already going much better than their first one. It just goes to show that even back in the early 2000s, sustaining a team built on a great defense from year to year was nigh impossible. Same thing happened to the 2000 Ravens. Soon after this teams learned and started building great offenses which are easier to carry over. The two major exceptions are the Legion of Boom for Seattle and Denver’s defense in 2015. But those eras were very short. It’s just difficult to maintain that historic intensity on the defensive side of the ball for more than a year or two. That the Bucs did it since the late 90s up to this point in 2003 was very impressive.
I miss when the Panthers actually cared about winning or losing. In the words of this show "Shoresy": "The problem is they love to win, but don't hate losing." Under Matt Rhule, that's exactly what has happened. It's embarrassing to watch
Carolina and Indy should have been the Super Bowl. As much as I hate Manning at least Indy would have given us a fair matchup and Wouldn’t have cheated us.
Love him or hate him Steve Smith was one of the best, tough old school receivers of all-time.
the only people that hated him was the ones trying to cover him
Smith was a Hard nosed, take no prisoner, smash mouth receiver
Was 5'9" but played way bigger. Toughest dude I've seen. I'd never wanna fight a guy like that. Strong, Scrappy, fiesty.
Hard to hate that guy
The best about Smith was, his very first touch in the NFL, was a TD.
Nfl should have a TV channel that shows throwback games
They really should
Love it!
that would be awesome
Absolute Facts!!!!
NFL Network also shows throwback games.
"They can take they ass back to Tampa"-Steve Smith 😂😂😂
That Keenan McCardell catch was damn incredible

@@bowlchamps37 this was iron bowl intensity in a nfl game
I betcha the Eagles defense still remembers him, especially at the goal line😁
As a Bucs fan I can confirm this is true. I've hated Carolina ever since that week 2 game in 2003.
I wish they would let teams play and be this physical
Iron bowl intensity
I don’t know what was more obnoxious and peak Fox: the laser blast sound every snap or the booth of “Mitchell”-era Joe Buck, along with both Aikman AND Collinsworth

That was a great physical game with a great Fox Team of Buck Aikman and CollinsWorth
I dont care what anyone says, the rivalry between the Buccaneers-Panthers is one of the most underrated rivalries of all-time
This was when both teams were very good.

Saints didn’t make a smart decision by starting Aaron Brooks over Jake Delhomme in the early 2000’s and Jake really proved his worth this season.

What a dumb ass comment!!! They played great against the best team that year and should had won
@IVrunner both Denver and Carolina offense played like shit in their super bowl. Luckily Denver basically got 2 TD to win that game
