Its just way too overcomplicated and way too rigid. If you don't play as a country with a focus tree you just have nothing to do. The game also just takes forever. Also why can't that SS guy in German Civil war use all 3 branches of "get help from Himmler", "conscript all Germans" and "get help from non-German SS that is outside of Germany" like I get that Burgundy guys could be mad about Waffle-SS being out there but why would they really? Like logically if you're a nazi you'd rather send a non-Aryan guy to die than have him around or smth. Also nope, that's not OP at all, that dude was really bad at it even when I cheated with focuses and spawned him shitload of divisions, as well as lots of equipment from all 3 focus branches. I would love a submod that would allow you to play AFTER nuclear war. Like -I doubt that, even with TNO fuckeryit would kill all of humanity - 99% perhaps, but not all.
Because from what I gather, TNO doesn't want that as a possibility. It's grimdark edge shit where they specifically patched out ways to defeat them without nuclear war.
TNO devs: "we arent nazis" TNO devs when you beat the nazi's in their mod: "ermmm acshaully this is imposshible because the german nuclear weapons are so superior they eradicate half the univeerse... 🤓🤓🤓"
In real life there was a point of starting a nuclear war due to a failure of a radar that detected an American missile that did not really exist, so it is very plausible that Burgundy launching 1 or 2 missiles at the United States, Germany and Japan did that the situation will quickly escalate to the MAD I also understand that France or the Germany of Speer or Heydrich can beat Burgundy
I actually had a game where I played as Omsk, burgundy had its civil war and was reunited under himmler, Germany then invaded and beat burgundy without a nuclear war.
I was playing an American game I was like 9 years in when burgundy had its civil war and Germany invaded it I thought there would be a nuclear war but here was none does anybody know why
Bormann and Speer can invade Burgundy during the collapse, and can defeat it with no problems. Actually, if France is in the OFN, both it and Germany invade, and then split the territory between them.
Hoi4 is a sandbox game thats supposed to let you do whatever you want whenever you want. Want to conquer the world as Bosnia you're more than welcome. It's why I don't like TNO, freethinking and independent movements are either extremely punished or outright banned. All thats left is an annoying e-novel with few satisfying endings. Not even a game at that point.
My guess to the lore wise reason why nukes start flying, is Burgundian Ultranationalists take control of a Nuke Silo and just fire them. Pretty shitty. Just because you can't win a war lol.
Honestly, you don’t need to. As long as you know the basics of hoi4, you can probably do whatever you want. The only real conflicts you might have problems with are the German Civil War, which varies in difficulty according to whoever you’re playing as; and the South African War, if you’re the US and aiming for complete victory. Something like -99% of production, -90% divisions, -95% of org restoring, destroying 95% of factories, constant - to population, almost no manpower. But you still could fight the damm war and win it. That would be much darker.

@@aperson34310 well when Americans launched nukes to Japan humanity didn't gone dead anyway. So Burgundy launching a nuke and it somewhat shuts down entire planet is stupidity.
For a mod that wants to be "realistic", they surely fall in really basic traps, like nuclear war ending the world for some reason, even though it doesn't have that capability from what we know
Most people don't know that, it's the same thing with climate change. Nuclear winter theory was finally disproven during the Gulf War, but the reality is based on Hollywood/entertainment industry slop and movies like Threads scared the shit out of people.
TNO is more of a thought provoking book than a game at this point tbh

This is what happens when you didn't get a memo that you're playing a VN in HoI4 engine.
"Playing."
Why can’t you beat Burgundy, they have like one nuke lol
That’s the main thing that makes me hate TNO: it’s soooooo god damn rigid. I like to think of HOI4 as a sandbox version of risk w/ LARPing. Now don’t get me wrong, I love linear story games, and I love visual novels. But the sheer inability to go off the exact story the devs have laid out for your country is boggling.
@@larsthedude1984 yeah it's a pretty poor use of hearts of iron in my opinion. entirely too driven by focus trees
@@flameoguy that's literally the point of tno. This is akin to disliking a genre simply because it's that genre instead of looking at a specific part of media in that genre and seeing how well that media is executed.
"I don't like horror movies because they're scary" that's the point. tno is meant to be railroaded. how well it does that is the question, otherwise you're just complaining about the concept of linearity in games.
@@larsthedude1984 TNO would be such a good mod if they didn't go with a linear path
linear games revolving around a story SUCK. Seriously just watch a movie
@@perfectlyfine1675 bro TNO feels like I’m playing an interactive visual novel, I don’t want that, I want to actually have my choices matter when playing a strategy game.
I downloaded TNO once. It sounded like it had really cool lore and gameplay. I played it for five minutes and then immediately removed it and never played it again. Its just way too overcomplicated and way too rigid. If you don't play as a country with a focus tree you just have nothing to do. The game also just takes forever.
I play hoi4 for conquering some random nation as some random nation. Doesn't matter what the nations are. Don't really care about extensive lore if the gameplay sucks. I would actually way prefer EAW any day over TNO because at least then you actually get to fight people.
What you talking about man. EAW is great.

@@ayyyyph2797 Yeah I know but at that point I would rather just read a book
Honestly if they added a post thermonuclear war type of thing, something like where SS Burgundy and (If the Russian National Reclamation government formed) they would return from their bunkers and would have one final massive war
lets give the players all these cool new doctrines, troops and generals, but lets make it where they cant declare war without doing their stupid focus trees
Hoi4 players: we cant conquer burgundy because they will destroy the world
Me who is playing TNO on AOH2: *deathstackes Burgundy, recolonises wasteland, wipes Germany off the map, litterally unites all of earth as a single united nations* i have no such weakness
What is AOH2?
Also, to be fair, HOI4 TNO literally coded it so that even if you do death stack them, they just get the nukes off anyway, and the game ends because of it.
@@buddermonger2000 age of history 2 and when i mean death stacks i mean armies that can have up too 10milion troops in them and even more, and in the TNO Burgundy's nukes do go off but only destroy itself, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Germany and maybe Poland (been awhile since i played) but the rest of the world is fine and since it just turns to wasteland and if you have colonisation enabled you can then recolonise the wasteland and undo the effects (tho the economy and technological development there is piss weak)

In the OFNs place my solution; Activate the Excalibur Batteries!
Wait you’re not supposed to be able to beat burgundy without cheats? Cause my most recent game I played as Speer, invaded Burgundy in the middle of their civil war and just defeated them. I think I even got an event about us sabotaging their nukes or something so maybe that’s what it is…
You can. As Speer or Bormann if the Burgundian civil war happens you can invade since burgundy is weakened and you can also give France land too. However if you play as Goring then nuclear war is sure to happen, you need to be really really quick to capitulate them
@@velvetlegionaire I would like to note that it isn’t *if* the collapse happens, but rather *when*, as it is hard-coded to happen between 1970 and 1974. So, assuming you finish your content for either leader by late 1972-early 1973, you have to wait at most a year for the collapse. It probably should happen when there’s still content, but I guess it can work as a sort of post-credits for Germany.

Well, at current version you CAN beat Burgundy: you need “just” to destroy all nuclear silos before the event (~one day, so better start war on 1:00). In that case Burgundy will not start nuclear war and wew, you win burgundy without cheats! Idk if that shit will work with other nuclear nations like the USA or Japan, but maybe it does.

Well I'm not against realism and honestly I love the fact that one of the biggest and deepest mods is more about (hi)story than just world conquest. But I agree that this work can't be wasted only on realism and story, we need Redux like for Kaiserreich which is pretty realistic too. We need submod that'll let you be funni Himmler who never stops the fun and so never against conquering one more country with genocide in between.

I actually managed to get nuked when I didn't want to (I wanted at first playthrough and I actually got peaceful Burgundy ending where they put -1000 energy for short period of time for some reason I'm not reading all that shit fr fr), like I played as Burgundy, had me nukes, then I went to troll that Africa dude and I think he launched nukes for some reason while I was expecting him to launch chemical weapons like in that "8 steps to troll the world video" btw I actually got that shit happening that time unlike when I first started as Burgundy. In real life there was a point of starting a nuclear war due to a failure of a radar that detected an American missile that did not really exist, so it is very plausible that Burgundy launching 1 or 2 missiles at the United States, Germany and Japan did that the situation will quickly escalate to the MAD
