Holy crap. Why have I not seen this until now? These guys were off the chain marvelous! Whether there were "party favors" being passed out backstage beforehand, I don't care. Roxy Music was on fire! 🔥🎷🎸🎶
Only just came across this. What a fantastic video. One of the best live Roxy performances on UA-cam. A superb version of this song, even though it was pretty old at this time. They definitely must have partaken of some pre-concert mood enhancer. Mind you Bryan Ferry looks a bit like Alan Partridge on ecstasy, he was always ahead of the times 😂
Roxy were out of this world back then, seriously brilliant musicians, manzanera, Mackay, sadly no thunderstcks Paul Thompson. Still excellent , best version of thrill of it all I've ever heard , classic
If you get to watch the whole of this concert, you'll notice that they're all playing like men possessed, especially The Emperor Himself (MacKay) who blows like the clappers on virtually everything whether the original had sax or not! Wonder what was available in the ol' changing room eh???Wonderful stuff...……..VIVA ROXY MUSIC!
If only those changing room walls could talk...what went on in the changing room stays in the changing room...no artist could produce this sensational energetic performance on caffeine & nicotine...it required something a little more er nasal...
I was 22 years old . Terrific and amazing Bryan has the shoulders of a Hero in that video!!! If I could I would listen to him all night long its again a kind of perfection. A new title for me I will never forget. What a rythm ! all I lust! What a voice and shape ! Bravo bravo Bryan and hello to Manzanera and McKey. 😈😈😈👍👍👍 I am realy emotioned by the voice of Bryan I love him even more with this show ! I am recovering my twenties too. Kiss 💋🙈👾🌹Kiss
The thrill of it all indeed!!! One of the most exciting pieces of music you could ever hear--the final jam is incredible. Roxy Music and Talking Heads are my favourite bands of the 70s and 80s. It's Beethoven, Mahler and Walton these days, rock is dead...
Worth seeing the whole hour Dortmund show. Opening with "The Bogus Man"!! How badass is that? This version of "Thrill" rocks, with Manzanera going wild at the end. Also great to see them perform "Jealous Guy" soon after John Lennon was killed, months before Roxy recorded their own famous version. Bryan Ferry is leaping around during this show. I'm not saying there was caffeine and Novocaine involved, but wow, a world away from their sedate Avalon tour.
Thank you for your kind comments. Just to be clear, "Jealous Guy" was recorded the day after Lennon was shot. I was in New York packing to go start rehearsing with them when the news came on TV that he had been killed. The next day (Dec. 9), I flew to London and the recording was made in Phil Manzanera's studio.
Truth be told, the impeccable Dave Skinner (keys) started the song at exactly the right tempo as rehearsed. It was played here just the way Bryan wanted it. The original had a fantastic groove but they wanted to do it a completely different way and the original approach didn't work at the new tempo.
I'm trying to find a performance of this around 75 where Ferry is in a black suit and Wetton stands right beside him. Damn youtube, things go missing alot.
If anyone ever believes this crew shared espresso coffee and cigarettes only as a lil' 'pick-me-up' before they took to the stage to produce sensational performances such as this...then think again. It came in lines...very long ones. And note the plural.
Great sound but funny how technology has changed. This was probably made on whatever was state of the art in 1980. Today your old cell phone shot better video. A blast from the past, thanks for posting.

Skip: Yeah! Like WTF?? Its a terrific performance except for missing bridges and the last repetitive annoying riff that Manzanera plays to death. Don't get me wrong, I love Phil and the boys, but that riff at the end just made me cringe and want to smash my laptop with a pick-axe!
That was a deadly line - up ... Tibbs .ex:Vibrator : and Manzanera free reign wailing; new juice was added went down well. Perhaps Marrotta on drums, great back-up to Paul.
@@kikiu2619 not sure, Wikipedia may list some of the session people on the roxy albums , this would be ca 1980 - 1982 , they may play on a some live albums , again check wiki
Some bohemian denizens of the rare pockets of taste during the decade from hell might feel you warrant castration for such a comment. However, I'm fascinated, in much the same way as viewing a documentary about post-war German guilt, in your opinion of this light blue Yuppie arrangement now. Culturally, it speaks like an SS uniform but in terms of line and cut, those dead Nazi tailors would puke.
In retrospect you can see that Ferry was nothing more than a pop singer! He wrote some good lyrics but he always wanted to be a mainstream pop star! (Look at his later stuff both with Roxy and solo!). Without Manzanera, Mackay and Thompson he would have sunk like a stone! Brian Eno did the best move by moving out!

How is there not a million like on this? So cool!
If this wasn't their best performance, then it was one of their best.Long live Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music.
Phil Manzanera, a guitar hero!
And Andy McKay on sax.

🔥💥🎸💥🫦🎶💞 dynamic song and performance !! Love it @bryanferry
Thanks for the post! Moving moving ! So so cool! I feel like dancing right into the video!
The greatest frontman I’ve ever seen!
Throughout the whole of this concert, Andy MacKay's all over everything, plays more sax and on more songs than ever before! A splendid performance.
I was at the Wembley concert of this tour. The band were brilliant and Ferry's voice close to perfect. Happy days.
I was 21. Now I am 65
@@ingridthurner3651 I was 24 and got married that year. Now I'm 68. (:-(
Never thought this song could get any better until I saw this video!!!
Greatest version of the thrill of it all.
Bryan was already in 1986 by 1980 :)
Yeah that suit
Bryan out of control ❤ …. love it. I wish I had been there.

Killed it! Damn, they were just killin' it! Awesome........
Great version of this song , from my favourite album Country Life ! Love Roxy Music
Ferry had been doing this for 10 years. Still animated and on key.
One of the best!
almost swallow my tongue how great this version is !!!!
Saw them in 1979. Awesome 👏
Wow best version of that song.
❤❤❤ROXY MUSIC/BRYAN FERRY ALL THE TIME ANYTIME ❤❤❤ SINCE 11-8-1975 When my late husband Rodney introduced me to Roxy Music.
I'm going to stick my neck out. Ferry is up there with Bowie.

Fuckin shit! They all look totally high, but still awesome performance, those were the 70s.
Unbelievable ❤ sooooo good ❤
Good Evening: How does this have only 68,286 views??
I love this version....
Let your senses skip. Stay hip. ❤
They were killing it on this one.
Isn’t brilliant?
Keyboard player screwed up. Started too fast and the whole band was along for the ride..
This tune had one of the coolest grooves of all time.

Wow.
At this gig Paul Thomson was sick at home. His replacment was Jimmy NIcoll who once replaced Ringo Starr with the Beatles when Ringo was ill.
What a performance!- is this officially released?
My girlfriend Is a LuisMi fan but she digs this performance. So there you go.
Bryan Ferry … my only love.

Reminds me of Talking Heads, somehow. Would have liked to see him do "Life in Wartime" just to see what he did with it.
More like the Talking heads remind you of Roxy...Roxy was first...but hey, everyone steals.
I know they are just lip syncing but it's a crime that bass player is not featured ! And Eddie Jobson !!!
XKE with the pedal to the metal
I am a Roxy fan.saw them 3 times.this isn't their best.starts weak.gets better with guitar solo.sax transition is weird.
Can someone tell me, who plays drums on this? It's not Andy Newmark
+John Mulligan Michael Dawe is the drummer from Robert Palmer, Rupert Hine etc
They forgot the bridges
Sorry I was wrong

Raul was recovering from a motorcycle accident

Gary tibbs, sorry for the incorrect auto correct
Neil Hubbard on guitar
