this song was released after the Berlin Wall fell and the fall of the USSR. The end of the Cold War gave us great hope for peace. but unfortunately, War Never Dies. 😔
I'm 59 - turning 60 this year... I still, to this very day, am brought to tears whenever I hear this song... Brick by brick, with bare hands on both sides, The Berlin Wall was taken down and the Cold War was over... It was truly my honor to experience and behold in my lifetime! 😊

I recommend you also listen to something from the Uli Roth period: We'll Burn The Sky, In Trance, The Sails of Charon, Life's Like A River, etc... From the 80s-90s, I recommend "Holiday", which is the favorite of many Scorpions fans, but also Dynamite, No One Like You, Rock You Like A Hurricane...and the list can go on forever :).

If you mean by way of who Gen X voted into office (Those responsible who run Governments), don't lump a whole Generation together. GEN X harbors both tyrants and freedom fighters, just like every generation before and every future generation. You've oversimplified while denigrating a particular generation. Nothing in life is that simplistic.
"The words are literally going in to you". YES! I love that. Songs like this become part of your soul.
during a live performance of the song. the singer said they came up with the idea. after they played for a russian crowd of 100,000 and they were all signing to a german band thats when they realized peace is popular. he said something like that. not popular but something similar. its on the version of the song on live bites. from scorpions.

I highly recommend doing Scorpions ‘We’ll Burn the Sky’ video @ Musikladen 1978. This was when Uli Roth was still in the band.
We'll burn the Sky is my favourite Scorpions song ever. Blows me out of the water every time I hear it. It's very closely followed by In Trance, of which they realeased an absolutely stunning live performance from 1978 on their channel just yesterday. Man, that voice! The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. They nailed it, (including the whistle) I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that.
I LOVE the Scorpions.
