Thanks for checking out the video guys! let me know what you think of the video, I am shooting with a new camera, in 4K and down sampling to 1080P. Things seem to be more clear to me, but let me know what you think!!
Oh yeah camera is spot on looks great.
Glad to hear it! Thank you very much! Glad its working out! It looked super clear while filming so glad it came across that way on YT!!
Looks amazing man
Thank you! Glad there is an improvement. It's been a long time coming!
I notice it seems like you installed the ebay button kit on this one... are the thumb sticks rubber? or are they all hard plastic? Also, awesome work!
I burned my fingers, try sleeving the cable for an hour, melted the plug and almost destroyed my controller. But it totally worth it.
Keep it up man.
Haha, please tell me this is joke! Next time you need some gloves :)
RockerGaming is it normal that its been 3 hours and i only did the taped part of the controller? Please help!!
@@xXRedBuLL13Xx You probably used too much tape or didn't wrap it tight enough. And, yeah the taped part more me takes almost as long at the rest of the cable. If the tape is kind of fat in the paracord and you're having trouble moving the cord over the tape try twisting the paracord one way then the opposite way as you pull it across the tape. I realize this comment is 10 months long and this likely won't help you but, I ran into this exact problem today so, I figured I'd give an answer.
@@ChiodosBlowsDogs thanks man!
You can tape the inner strands to the pins and use the inner strands as a “cable snake” to pull the cable into the outer sleeve.
thats what i scrolled down to comment lol
Came here to say the same thing. Much easier, especially for someone who hasn't done it before
Yooooo thankssss
Thanks!!
I wouldnt have thought of that thank you!
Thanks for putting this vid together. The packing tape around the pins was just the tip I needed.
Hey Rocker! Thanks in part to your videos, I've started my own modding journey. I wanted to share something that I found while sleeving my own paracord the other day. Instead of using packing tape, I took all six pins and put them into the cut off end of a small pipette. It made it easier to get the paracord on to cable initially and made the process really smooth and strain free. Thanks for setting me on the right path initially!
Dude thats awesome! Can you please link me to the pipette? I'd like to check it out!! Cheers!
So I'm afraid I have some bad news. It's not possible to get the pipettes that I've been supplied with unless you know someone in veterinary medicine. :/ My mom happens to work for a vet, and they got passed on to me. I tried calling the supply company, but it was no dice to order the pipettes individually. The best I can do is tell you that their diameter through the middle is 0.25", their length is 3.5", and they hold 0.5 mL of liquid. I may try experimenting with some other options off of Amazon to try to find a more permanent solution in the future, but here's the link of what I think will work best if you feel bold enough to try your luck first.

Man I appreciate the leg work on this!! I have some similar ones, let me give those a go and let's see what happens! I appreciate the very through response and looking I to it 🤜🤛
Not a problem man! It's all about trying to prop each other up right? Making the community at large a better, more informed place is the dream!
Love the attention to detail and the MUSIC is top flippin' tier man!
Thanks! This vid helped me out a lot! I wanted to replace my old controller cable (the rubber was bitten in many places), but this is much more stylish than a normal rubber cover
Glad to hear it and heck yeah! Style in spades!
Thanks for this detailed and high quality video! I've really enjoyed checking out your channel!
Great video i sleeved my first one this last weekend. Id just note when soldering back onto the main pcb it has a 1 and 6 printed on the board so you know which way to install it. Great work as always keep it up!
Thank you and Excellent point! I should have noted that as well, its labeled on the board and on the plastic connector, makes it easy to put back together!
I have been looking for a good guide on DIY cable sleeving for ages. Thank you for finally ending that search. Got a lot of new controller projects that I can go ahead with now!
best of luck and enjoy modding the controllers!!!
@@RockerGaming I absolutely will! Now I just need to find an A/C adapter for my GameCube, so I can actually use the damn things.
Also, I don't know if you've done this already, but a guide on de-housing the plug for an N64 controller would be absurdly helpful if you're ever short on video ideas! XD
I got you dude, here you go 😉 ua-cam.com/video/Qsyc3XTDBV0/v-deo.html
This is an awesome tutorial video! Well detailed and even a noob like me would feel confident to try it out! The color of this controller is really nice! Great video and keep up the good work!
Much appreciated Dan! I agree, this wouldn't have been my first choice on color, but seeing it after it's all said and done, I would want one of these in my game room, lol
Wow RG! Thanks for sharing the process from start to finish! Tge discount code is a nice addition too. The controller looks fantastic with the red and black sleeving. I need to try that technique on GC and SNES controller 😁
Thank you sir! If you attempt it on a SNES controller, please keep me posted. I have not tried it on a SNES controller, but I would by lying if I didnt say I really want to!
Another great video! I appreciate how detailed you are making a cord mod look so simple. Im curious to how people make their own emblems for the center of their controllers.
Thank you very much! That is an art I have by no means mastered, I had that controller commissioned for me, lol. The gentleman who did the paint job on that controller is Pucho Magic, he left a comment on this video, but you can find him on twitter and instagram as well.
I am hyped to try this for the first time myself
Your gamecube controller mods are awesome ! So much skills !
Dude, I really appreciate that! Thank you for checking them out!
Nice video man, I actually feel like I could do this later when I get more into controller modding. Saving this for reference later. Appreciate the work you put into it man.
Matt, much appreciated! Best of luck and make sure you share pics once you have modded your controller!!
Stumbled on your channel and subbed, great content and I love your easy store - I'll have to save up for a few bits to make shipping to UK worth the while!
Wow that was quick! I really appreciate the video and the effort put into it! I can finally be confident in doing paracording, thank you
No problem, I do my best to listen to what the audience wants :) Glad to hear that and share pics once you are able to knock it out!
Followed your vid to paracord the OldSkool gamecube controller as a fun project, the inner cable on that controller isn't shielded and has the 6 smaller cables inside of it instead. Was a real pain figuring out how to de-sleeve until I realized that you can just snip the sleeve and grab all 6 cables and pull them thru the sleeve almost as if you were using the 6 cables to cut it along a seam. Once that was done, getting the paracord on wasn't too bad, I thought the packing tape was a solid recommendation.
I also soldered the paracorded cable back onto the controller before putting the plug back on the jack lol
Other than that, pretty cool project and a big THANK YOU for this vid to help me thru it!
I bought a set of transparent red buttons for my blaack controller without knowing if it was gonna look good, but now I see it will look great!
Oh you're going to be happy, these turned out great!
As always a fantastic vid. Did this once in the past and this vid would have help so much. Keep up the good work man
Thanks dude, hopefully it'll help others, I am with you, it would have been great to have something like this the first time I did it, lol.
Awesome idea with the glue. I find keeping the shielding still is one of the most annoying parts of sleeving.
I appreciate that, it's a great tip and I couldnt agree more with you! It does make the process more bearable.
Well i didnt think this process is so time consuming
Great video as always
Haha, it absolutely it does take time to do it right, which is what I wanted to show here. You do get faster with time, but let there be no doubt first time you do this mod its an hour plus of time to make it happen, maybe even 2 hours.
Great work, as always! I'm ready to tackle the beast that is sleeving! 😂
Thanks Josh, much appreciated as always!! Make sure you share what you mod!!
Can you do an in-depth guide to replacing GameCube stick boxes? (Preferably with new and old GC examples)
that would actually be very helpful
Agreed
Sounds like I need to add this to my list of videos. I'll have to talk to zenith about it as well. I'd love for him to do this video topic or possibly collab with me on it.
Awesome. Might have to try this with some of my controllers
Great video as always, Rocker! I’ve followed Courtdate’s paracord guide many times, but I liked seeing your superglue truck for the frayed copper. I’ve nicked the shielding a couple times and had to completely remove it! I’ll have to try your trick out if I run into that problem again.
Connor, thank you and that is a great guide! The super glue trick is one of my untold tricks of paracording controllers, lol. It really helps a lot as I rarely dont end up nicking the copper myself!!
Didn't even know this was a thing you could do... Strongly considering looking into this for all my retro consoles now.
You absolutely could. GCC are where you see it the most, but let there be no doubt you can do it on a whole bunch of consoles!
ikr?
Thanks Paul for another amazing informative video!
No problem Ethan, thank you for checking it out and dropping a comment, much appreciated!!
THIS SOUNDTRACT IS A WHOLE ASS BOP
I'm loving the video man keep up the great work
Much appreciated dude! Thank you very much for checking it out and dropping a comment!
Excellent explanation through the process n the finished product looks dope asf
Thanks Chile!! I agree this is worthwhile and it looks great when complete!
@@RockerGaming absolubtly changes the aesthetics of the controller completly
Thank you so much for this video! It took me seven hours, but I was able to do it 😅
Glad to hear it! You know you will get better and practice makes perfect, but glad you knocked it out!
This actually makes me want to customize my controller
You should do it!!a
@@RockerGaming !!a
Thanks rockergaming Looking good controller and the camera can't wait till the next video.
Thanks Tomas! Glad to hear it and glad the new camera is looking good! I am super excited about it! I have a macro lens now :)
Nice work. Think I'll need a nice one with our cube project.
Absolutely, just let me know!
My hands weep when I see this close up work with the wiring. LOL Amazing work, but I can honestly say I could NOT do it!!
Not going to lie when you do 3 of these in a day my hands cramp for sure!
@@RockerGaming Careful--keep those things safe man!
Great tutorial again man, eager to see what you're gonna cover next. Keep it up!
Thank you! I have a list, lol. Lets just say GC is almost exhausted for the time being, but N64 is going to get some love along with SNES, Saturn and Game Gear of all things, more to come, but those are all in the hopper :)
Great video! Really helpful
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it!!
I got a parachord on my controller at syndicate. Also fixed some dashback issues and raised my L-trigger
Very nice! Will have to try this when I get around to making my own custom controllers. One quick question -- does leaving the original black cable sleeve make it too thick to thread through the paracord sleeve?
Exactly what I'm wondering. I was planning on doing that to begin with, figured it would give it overall more durability, and make the whole job simpler.
The plastic casing of one of my gamecube controller cables is already coming off- might have to do this mod with thay cable to try it out!
That black with crystal red buttons controller is a sexy beast
I agree thank you 😁
Okay, so I really want to customize my controller but don’t have any of the tools needed to do this part. Do you by any chance take custom orders where you make just the cord? And if so, how much is it?
Thank you very much for this video you have make my life much easier... grate video brother 👍
Thank you sir! You're already a pro in my book! The Mario themed GC controller you did was really well done!
Thanks so much!!! Great video 👌🏻
Alan, much appreciated, thank you for checking it out!
Idk if you read comments on older vids, but I'd suggest using a seam ripper to cut off the original rubber casing. Something I learned from @EricTheCarGuy
I appreciate that and I'll give it a try, thanks for that!
8:00 This is a blunt. It is just a blunt
Me: I wanna Paracord wrap my cable
Also me after watching the tutorial: holy shit
Yo thanks a lot for this video! I wanted to do this but i could not find a tutorial on how to do it
No problem, glad you found it helpful and best of luck with the mod!!
Okay so I've had my ups and downs with this project but now I'm finally almost done. Overall grrrreat tutorial, never thought I'd be able to do something like this! Anyway, I'm at the stage where I'll solder back the cable to the main pcb, but while inserting the pins back into place one of the pins broke! I'm able to get it into the black plastic casing and a small piece is slightly coming out at the other side, about 1-2mm or so. How can I save this??? Feeling a bit devastated, help is much appreciated!
Which heat shrink tubing do you use i cant find it in the description unless im blind? edit: found some at radioshack lol
Those light in there are those meant to be always on when the controller is plugged in? ive been looking for a mod like that to do
Glad I stayed for the Gummie Bear's theme
I prefer to put a heat shrink tube that fits over all the pins and then use a slightly bigger one that extends to the copper shielding.
also something odd I noticed is that one Paracord I had just didn't work at all, I think it has to do with the material used and because of that it stretches less and can't fit over the cable. Nonetheless, this is a great tutorial and for every beginner I can't recommend enough to take your time for everything
I wanna do this now for my friend
The Gummi Bears theme made me smile
Its get me every time! Glad you enjoyed it too!
my sister: "oh this would be so cool to do to your controllers!
me: *looks at my wavebirds* "you know mine are wireless right?"
(when we moved out she took the cabled controllers while i got the junkers and wavebirds. the choice was made because i intended to modify mine. my two cabled controllers are not in working order yet)
Haha, that is hilarious!! I need to do a WB mod, there is still a lot of love for that controller!
@@RockerGaming oh hell yes. I use mine in smash, I spray painted mine black with Galaxy print and used some clear blue buttons. It chipped sadly because the weather was too cold. But it's still beautiful and worth doing.
@@scythescythe884 yeah I think I need to add this to the list... I know ppl still love their wave birds! What mods do you think would be cool? Maybe a rechargeable battery mod too?
where did u buy the metal clip for the plug and the heatshrink cover?
Hey there, I just installed the paracord and it looks sick! However, when I tap jump (ssbm) I do an aerial to the right. Do you know what could be causing this? Didn’t notice it before the mod
you could have soldered some speaker wire or something to the end of your gamecube cable to help snake it through the paracord, then just desolder it when finished.
Hey have you ever thought about using the thread already in the parachute cord to help pull the wire through the parachute cord by securing one end to the cable and pulling on the other end of cord.
James, much appreciated. I have attempted it with not great results. It comes down to the paracord not being rigid enough for that to work. I do wish there was an easier way to make it work.
Awesome vid dude... first time I've seen paracord used like this... will any paracord work or is there a specific thickness that will first the gc cord?
I'd go 550 or 650. Larger is easier but less color choices.
I trying to find a video install a longer cable for my knock off Gamecube controller?
can you tell me what vice grip are you using and where can i get one?
if you leave 1 of the 7 white para cords inside the sleave, you can tie it to your wire and pull it through with that.
Might be a bit late but hopefully you'll see this: I did the whole process and physically the cables look great! However my controller now has random input drops, inputs that I never put in, and sometimes just wont connect. Any chance you might know what's going on? Thanks!
I’m having a lot of trouble removing the plug, I feel like I’m getting it warm enough but it won’t budge. Any tips?
Does any soldering kit work? I bought a soldering kit on Amazon for $16 and it can be between 200-400 degrees Celsius, and what do you use to resolder it, simple solder wire?
Hey man thanks for demystifying this all for so many people. I also learned that Battle beaver customs will sell prewrapped cables but you have to email them. However I recommend doing it yourself using these awesome videos as a guide. OH and one last tip I recommend taking photos of everything as you take it apart for reference. This is just a general repair/mod tip. Thanks for the credit I appreciate all the work you are doing and making these gorgeous controllers.
No thank you for dropping knowledge and asking questions, you did all the hard work! Battle beaver might be a good option for those who do not want to try this themselves, but I agree with you, it is worth doing yourself to learn the process and I have no idea if BB is using genuine GC parts.
@@RockerGaming I kinda want to buy one just to see how they do it. I assume they are probably using all aftermarket stuff except maybe the plastic plug cover because when I emailed them they said they had "black, orange, indigo, white and silver."
My thoughts as well, although, I have no faith, lol. I have a feeling the plastic plugs are 3rd party too, lol
I should do something like this since I added the custom buttons first, but to do that, I'll need to find a third hand tool. Where can I buy the third hand tool?
Thanks a ton for this guide! If you do happen to cut some of the copper shielding are there any concerns aside from making it hard to put the paracord on? How would you remedy this?
No problem thanks for checking it out! I would use the super glue as I showed in the video. Worst case you can always just cut it off. I have sleeved many controllers without the copper shield and have not had issues.
Far from being a nightmare project but quite a bit you have to do just for cool cord :( lmao Gonna tackle this next weekend
Where do you get your buttons from? Also I see lot of ppl with colored shells where do you get different color replacement shells?
Does this work with the new realeased gamecube controllers for the switch?
I think Amazon changed your link for the wire that you used. Its now pointing to non-insulated rainbow wire. Ive been trying to find a 5 core wire that i could do this with on the NES controllers, but so far all of them seem to thick for the paracord.
Any ideas?
Man this is really cool but I would never try this considering I dont know how to solder.
Im not sure if someone else mentioned it but have you tried using 1 of the paracord inner strings tied to your cable to use like a fish tape? Not sure if it would work for this situation but a fish tape works great for pulling electrical wiring through a old half filled conduits.
Tim much appreciated! I wish it worked, would make this SO much easier, unfortunately the paracord is a bit too elastic and it doesnt work. I appreciate the comment!!
Something else I would like to add, if you have a lot of slack, push the cable back into the paracord and cut some of the slack like that. I made the mistake of taking the cables with the pins and pulling them all the way through and then tried to trim the slack like that. Tried to gently cut around the cable and ruined my 4 hour job. Had to order another controller and more paracord (will take like another week to get here)
I love the techno Gummi Bear theme music
Much appreciated man. Make sure you check the link in the description for the awesome artist who made it! That is one of my favorites!
Where do you get your custom sticks from and how is the quality on them?
Hey, does anyone of you know how to open up the cables inpus side back up after the paracord is done? Feels like after i put the paracord around it's even tighter then before i removed the glue with the heat gun
I wish I could figure out how people sleeve quickly, I'm on my 10th or so paracording and it still takes me hours to do the sleeving despite making the tape and pins as small as possible :/
Ahhh the gummy bears techno remix! XD
Could this be done to Sega Dreamcast controller cords?
Hey @RockerGaming can I do this mod with a lighter instead of a solder or a hair dryer for that matter
Is it possible to just cover it directly without removing the rubber ?
Can I use a toothpick instead of a dental pick? or is it too thick?
AMAZING INTRO!! Literally just subbed because of it. Instantly conveys your channel’s purpose
Dude thanks for subbing and I appreciate the comment on the Intro, it was a lot of fun working on it!
@@RockerGaming And thank you for the amazing content!! Seriously love your channel, it's super high quality and very enjoyable. Learned a ton about modding already, can't wait to try it myself :)
@@supersquare I really appreciate! Modding us a ton of fun and making something your own makes it even more special!
could you do another one of these on a ps2 controller please?
I think I might have messed my board up it seems there a bit of brown where there Cord should be solder and when I plugged it in to my GameCube it would turn off.Its in right but I think that that's the boards fault
That acapella background music, though
Its so good!
There is a much easier way to sleeve the cord. You can use the white string inside the paracord as a pull system. Taping the white string to the cord. It makes it a little fatter, but you can pull and push the wire through. Rather than the chinese finger torture method. Super good video though thanks for making it!
have you used the method your recommending? I tried it with zero luck, but perhaps I was doing it wrong. Either way, I appreciate the comment!!
@@RockerGaming did this ever work?
@@kingkirb647 All attempts by me failed. And the OP never responded

Great video! I'm wayyy more confident in doing this now. Thank you btw for reaching out to the paracord site and getting the discount code. Also, I know you're GC centered now, but do you think you could show these mods for other controllers like ps2, Xbox, and other OG controllers?
Glad to hear it! No problem and hopefully folks use it! I will be moving to new systems here shortly. I think I only have 1 more GC video planned before I transition away for a bit. I have 1 or 2 more Sega Saturn video lined up and then I have SNES, N64 and Game Gear videos lined up there after. I plan to have an extended series on N64 controller modding as that scene needs a boost and there is a lot there to discuss/show. I would love to do more on the OG Xbox and PS systems. I do have somethings already planned for the PS1, but its going to be pushed back for now.
@@RockerGaming n64 controller mods sounds amazing 😍. I'll be sure to watch the other too. Thanks again you're doing great
Really appreciate the encouragement and I am excited to move onto the N64 myself, SOOOO much untapped potential there!!
How do we get the heat shrink through the plug
why is that z bumper not red aswell it triggers my ocd
I’m having some trouble with the plug removal at 2:32 does anyone have any tips? I have been using my heat gun but the plug stays put when I try to pull it off
Edit: I got it! I was heating it up too much on my practice run (controller was already busted). I was able to do it by applying less heat and using a vice and pliers with rubber so as not to scratch the plastic
Hey rocker I have a question, would it be possible/doable to make a tutorial on how to change the wireless powerA gamecube controller's shoulder buttons for the smash pad pro's ones?
-Astro
I think that would a really good idea for a video. I know the power a controller is really hit or miss and some people love or hate it. I can think of 3 or mods to make it really nice and the shoulder buttons are one of them for sure. Next time I can get one on sale or find one cheap.
I just can't sleeve the cable, always when i try to put it into to the paracord it gets bended cause the cable into the tape is too thin
you can also try to add another layer of tape. sometimes I run into that issue too.
Nice. I have a controller that will be perfect for this
love that, make sure you share pics of it when its done!
