The rocket 3 riding position was the perfect fit for me at 6 feet - 250 lbs. I bought a 2022 rocket R and I pretty much do everything on that bike. Around town, long distances, short distances, day rides, overnight rides, I do it all. And the bike does everything And more on those rides. I have the GT, and fitted the mid-mount pegs. Combined with my handle bars which are swept back further than the R, it’s extremely comfortable to ride. The front wind deflector is surprising very effective at diverting the wind over your head; I’m 6’2” and actually don’t feel any wind on my chest or helmet which I haven’t seen others comment on. I assume this effect is because the air is moving between two parallel surfaces which creates a type of laminar airflow, culminating the air into a sort of sheet which is then directed over your head. Having ridden the R, you don’t get the same protection. This effect really is underestimated. Even passing trucks and windy areas really seems to attenuate any effect on the bike, though this would also be due to a combination with the bikes (and my) weight

3R Black owner here - but I swapped the handle bars and seat over from the GT (so it’s now a GT/R) and the mid pegs with more comfortable bars and seat is absolute perfection 👌 Never selling this bike….
I have ridden my 2020 GT for over 71,000 miles (115,000,km) and in my opinion the Rocket is the best all around street bike made. I can play with the sports bikes (I have passed more of them than have passed me, by far), I can cruise with the cruisers (plenty of storage with panniers and a top box) having done over 1000 miles in one day and been on 10 day trips. Picking up groceries is even fun. And after all those miles the grunt is still intoxicating, lol. I still get excited each and every time I get in the saddle. When this one wears out I will be getting another Rocket unless I see something that might be better. Nothing like that exists right now imho.
Blimey, i had no idea the rocket 3 does such high mileages and the gearbox and electrics seem very reliable and tough. What a great machine, its torque makes it the king of fast cruisers and even the mpg is good. Fabulous and far better value than any BMW, Indian, Harley or Ducati. 40mpg is better than a honda vfr800 or yamaha 600 fazer.
Well done Sir for riding a dinosaur for us, having just watched a Diavel review which has insane power as well and is even lighter than my Honda 700, if i could afford it my money would go on the Italian! Had to smile watching you charge along lanes I was riding in the 60's on my Benly 125!!!
For a moment there watching him ride down the country lanes, he reminded me of the opening scenes from _Lawrence of Arabia._ Glad he didn’t have any misfortune.
If it had a reverse, it would be more practical. I test rode the original Rocket Roadster about 13 years ago. It was surprisingly manageable. Very easy to pull off the side stand. Extremely low centre of gravity. Very stable. I came out of the Triumph dealer, jumped on my Buell Ulysses which suddenly felt like a toy. The lighter new model must be more manageable. If I was 15 years younger, I'd consider one. I think they're good value. A bit uneconomical. More economical than the old one, though. I don't like the chrome tank. Good to see you on one. Nick J
The fuel cap is not a problem, but the dashboard could be as you said. If it were possible, I would immediately replace it with two analogue ones. But still better than ugly tablets. As for power and others, maybe there is someone whose dream is Opel or Dacia, but I don't know anyone like that. Everyone would like a Ferrari or a Lambo. Even if they end up buying the Opel, but not because they really want it.
I need it. Ugh, this is one of my dream bikes, along with the SuperDuke 1290R, H2 (for obvious reasons), MT07, MT09, and and oldschool Bandit 1200. I'd daily the shit out of the Rocket 3
I saw one of these rocket threes in the chrome edition a little while ago, and I have not had such a desired on a bike since I stood in front of a Vincent Black shadow. That is an absolutely beautiful machine. Unfortunately, it’s about as affordable for me, as a Vincent BLACK shot it was, a lonely be able to go in one second hand or if I win the lottery which probably is not gonna happen. Sad because I would absolutely worship a bike like that.
My only complaint with my Rocket GT3 is the handle bars are so wide that I cannot always lane filter, which is annoying as I live on the Gold Coast and the weather is often quite hot, and the bike throws off a lot of heat. I would like to know if it's worth switching off if the traffic lights are particularly slow (as is often the case here). It drinks like a fish too and the 18lt tank empties quite quickly. I don't understand his comments about weight and it being difficult to move in the driveway. The weight is really low down, so it may be a problem if you let it tip beneath a certain degree otherwise I'm 59 and haven't been to a gym in years and it's no problem at all. I recommend getting one of those hyper sensitive portable alarms that you can buy online for around $100 because idiots are going to try and sit on it and have their pics taken while they scratch the tank with their belt buckles. I have made 2 minor modifications to mine. That is a Denali sound bomb mini horn (puts out 113db) because I felt the original horn was quite weak, and an Innox k3 front and rear mounted camera with gps and microphone. I had to get an auto electrician to install mine because it turns out all the standard accessory ports will draw power even when the ignition is off. They installed a post? and wired the camera system to it, and now I don't drain the main battery overnight.
What a cracking video Dan. Slomo shots at the beginning and end really showed the bike off! “Street cripple” and “I go to the gym a lot” were some other highlights 🤣 would you do an edit of the ride down to the coast you did on the Rocket? Think that would be quality!
I own a 2021 Rocket GT Triple Black and I can concur that the bike is an absolute hoot, fun, fun, fun and comfort rolled into one. I haven't tried the R but I believe the swept back bars and more upright riding position make it even more flickable. It's handling really is very good especially when you consider what a Big Beast it is. It's one drawback is indeed manoeuvring it when off the bike, best done with the help of a pillion especially if on anything but level ground. Perhaps the brakes on the one you tried weren't properly bedded in, sure they don't have the expected initial bite but they do have a very progressive feel which perfectly suits the bike's weight and power. To sum it up it's more fun than you can shake a stick at, my son's reaction when riding pillion was " #@&%#@? WOW!!"
after first seeing it in flesh in 2007 i really yearned that someday I will buy this ultimate big bike but alas now that i have the money the preferences have added up and i have to forgo this
Great review as always! However I think it’s like having a go on a fast ride at the fair, once you’ve experienced it’s party trick ,.. time for a proper motorcycle 😮
@davidtait7407 I don't think I've ever had a go on a fast ride at the fair and come off it thinking OK I've been there and done that, now let me stick to ones less thrilling. I'd more likely want to have another go and another one. I own a Rocket 3 GT and can honestly tell you I've never got off it and thought...OK now " time for a proper bike". In case you feel I'm not making a fair comparison I also own a Kawasaki ZZR 1400 Performance Sport, a KTM 890 Adventure R and a Triumph 900 Thunderbird Sport. All of which are " proper bikes" each with their own unique attributes but I wouldn't consider any of them more " proper" than the Rocket. If you want to have " proper" fun I'd say the Rocket's the one, although they are in many ways somewhat equal.
A friend had the earlier 2.3L one and he said the biggest issue was the weight and having the embarrassment of having the wife push him and the bike backwards out of a carpark, no reverse gear!
Its beautiful, high quality, amazingly powerful, but the shear size and weight! The bike is “all about” cruising on the highway, not in town operation, negotiating parking lots, U turns, slow turns, etc. Diavel, or Speed Triple if buying British is the thing, has better performance in a much lighter package. But for those who want the biggest,…
Why doesn't Triumph fit the Rocket with a reverse gear, like the Gold Wing? The bike has a kerb weight of about 320kg (705lbs), so it would come in handy on an incline, on bad/slippy surfaces, or when you're in a tight space.
Back in 99, I bought a new fatboy and spent another 20k to double the hp. Had no windscreen, luggage or storage of any kind and put 50k km on the thing. Reminds me of those times. 😂
It’s a hell of a thing but, honestly, having ridden one I just couldn’t get fired up by it. If I had to have one bike this isn’t it. If I could have a stable of bikes, that’s another thing.
I would like to get a second bike and I really like this bike but licence and insurance in my country will probably cost more than an arm and a leg. Better if I get something more affordable. Thanks for the review Dan 😘
Why doesn't Triumph make a Touring Rocket 3 with a full fairing, bigger gas tank, higher handle bars, forwrd foot pegs, hardbags and tour pack, I'd buy one? Love the motor, drive shaft, just don't like that it doesn't have a fairing . No wind / rain protection, lack of hard bags and tout pack. Take an Electra Glide and put that Triumph motor and drive shaft in it. On a side note. How many head on collisions do you have riding those skinney green lanes with no lane divider lines there in the UK? They look very dangerios.
ive ridden my R3 GT every day all weather all year for over 2 years. excellent bike and filtering is super easy when youre used to the size and agility of this lump of a machine
I turn the mirrors 90 degrees up sometimes and I think this gives me about another 3 inches less width to play with (I hate bumping someone's mirrors with mine). Drivers here in OZ are quite often already angry that I'm getting to the front of the red lights without aggravating them further.
You want to watch those English country lanes. Might collect a tractor on your front mudguard and have to clean it off when you get to your destination.
Looks phenomenal, has power in abundance, but sounds like a vacuum cleaner. And the really sad thing is that not a single flap exhaust manufacturer offers an exhaust with EU homologation for this.
As a Triumph rider I must say Yes the Rocket3 is awesome. But being an owner of a new Speed Twin 1200 I am more about the sound and being able to ride it comfortably around town. The Rocket sound is an acquired taste. It isn’t sporty, it isn’t typically English other than maybe a Triumph car. And it isn’t a V engine. Sum=I LOVE it but not for me.
Any noticeable torque lean when jumping in the throttle? Because it’s not a transverse engine. Planning on getting this bike but am weary about the linear engine setup. Road some old BMWs and they lurch under heavy acceleration, really worrisome when exiting a bend.

Makes my V max look like a toy.
V-Max is a classic though!
Absolute dream bike. Sat on one at the Triumph dealership and it fits me like a glove. Looking for a long distance bike
Just map out where the petrol stations are on the route. Other than that it's a hoot to ride.
A beautiful bike! I would love to have one. Thanks for your review!
My pleasure!
There it is ,that’s the headlight they should put on the speed triple as well.
On a sunny day that tank would be blinding!
It's fine actually, never had any issues.
What a cracking video Dan. Slomo shots at the beginning and end really showed the bike off! “Street cripple” and “I go to the gym a lot” were some other highlights 🤣 would you do an edit of the ride down to the coast you did on the Rocket? Think that would be quality!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed. Sadly I didn't record the trip to the coast as sometimes it's nice just to ride and enjoy the bike without filming. :)
@@Englishbikerdan absolutely fairs! Also where was that golf course? It looks familiar?
Wow! EXCELLENT!!!
WOW!!"
Haha, my son's reaction was similar. This should not be legal, he said.
@@craigice9635 Ha Ha, I love it 😂
I think I would rather have the BMW R18 if given a choice between the two. Great review.
after first seeing it in flesh in 2007 i really yearned that someday I will buy this ultimate big bike but alas now that i have the money the preferences have added up and i have to forgo this
Great review as always! However I think it’s like having a go on a fast ride at the fair, once you’ve experienced it’s party trick ,.. time for a proper motorcycle 😮
As I mention in the video, I rode this bike a LOT. Once you got over the initial joy, it's just a really good motorcycle.
You're funny. Maybe you'd be more comfortable on a moped as the Rocket isn't for everyone and that's o.k, you're special too!
Awesome bike❤❤❤😂😂😂
A friend had the earlier 2.3L one and he said the biggest issue was the weight and having the embarrassment of having the wife push him and the bike backwards out of a carpark, no reverse gear!
Yeah you definitely have to pick your parking spots carefully!
I've owned an 08 model for 14 years. You soon get use to scoping car parks etc for easy places to park. Excellent hwy bike.
The tyres are the same as the Suzuki C109r
why not just park arse in, nose up, you always have a choice.
Your engine has a nice motorcycle! I want one!
Haha, nice!
Beautiful thing!
Sounds awesome
Great video again mate 👌have to catch up soon 👍
Hey Kel, hope you are well mate and enjoying the Street Fighter!
I would enjoy riding that monster for a long cruise. It sounds incredible
If it makes you giggle... i have to have one
love the quick throttle blatts followed by the argh of pleasure.
Cool, different and awsome - however the price..
Sweet Jesus... This thing is a monster...
I have a 2008 with 90,000 ,its a fantastic motorcycle.
So now it has 50bhp? I joke! :D
EnglishBikerDan, With an 18 ltr tank you have about 254 km range, going by you getting, "40 mpg".
Yeah, sounds about right. Although I think once you ride a little more aggressively, that range will plummet quicker than Crypto!
Very nice but let's not forget the ktm 1290 super adventure is 'the beast' ❤
Yes, but it's a different beast altogether though! :D
It’s a hell of a thing but, honestly, having ridden one I just couldn’t get fired up by it. If I had to have one bike this isn’t it. If I could have a stable of bikes, that’s another thing.
Fair enough! :)
I would like to get a second bike and I really like this bike but licence and insurance in my country will probably cost more than an arm and a leg. Better if I get something more affordable. Thanks for the review Dan 😘
The title "Living with the Beast" brought to mind my last girlfriend.
Carry On...
Ride Safe and Control the Beast!
✌️
Haha!
keeping my Touring for now . Thats some machine though
As i observe Its speed,it can match with ducati panegale or the ninja kawasaki...
Add a cylinder, get rid of the huge muffler gangle and you have a modern Indian 4 that needs to be ridden carefully.
I don't think this bike needs more cylinders! :D
I generally like to watch where I'm going when riding, I find it helps. :D
Looks phenomenal, has power in abundance, but sounds like a vacuum cleaner. And the really sad thing is that not a single flap exhaust manufacturer offers an exhaust with EU homologation for this.
I want your vacuum cleaner!
looking forward to the review of the new 2024 Street Cripple RS
I bought this bike 😊
Great review, could you tell me what jacket you are wearing? Looks like triumph but I can not see it on there site
I had a bike with TWE on the plate once.
Hi,What is the make and name of the jacket your wearing? cheers, great content.
Nice video!
15:07 Is that big boy leaking fluids, or is you drooling? 😅
I blew my load. :D
Imagine being able to afford this
the rocket three was a BSA Triumph version was a Trident
Been waiting for this video from you. What gloves are those? Look sick!
Thanks, gloves are Richa Cruiser 2.
