Great video. At last, Ducati are using normal valves. In fact, better than normal, with 60,000 km intervals. That's a big deal and a huge step in the right direction.
Diavel definitely Nothing against the Rocket, I love that too Just the Diavel has this Italian design to it that makes it slim even tho it’s not exactly slim. Idk quite how to describe it it’s just magnificent
I feel that the Rocket is more true to the cruiser ethos. Being closer to a large naked bike, the Diavel is something I'd consider once I'm too fat for a Streetfighter 😂
Enjoying the ride with my father’s Rocket 3 GT but I also would like to get my hands on a diavel v4 just because I think that cornering ability is much better since it’s lighter. Overall great review for both bikes!
Aussie Rocketeer on a 22 GT, and love it. I had an 07 Classic which felt like a tractor (don't get me wrong, I loved it) and the GT is just smooth, sleek, hammers the road into submission and handles far better than it has any right to.
Is it price differential or the coolness the reason you see many more Rocket 3s on the road? Tons of accessories and configurations available for the Rocket 3. The spec page indicates Ducati and suppose if you are a rider that likes to run the roads at a quick pace. However, if you only occasional hustle down the road the Rocket 3 would be a much better choice.
I traded my large Harley Davidson towards a Diavel V4. Moving that beast around the garage was getting painful and I really was looking to shed weight for my mostly local rides. That said, I hope to be able to add a Rocket to my garage at some point. IMHO, weight considerations aside, I don't know that there's a wrong answer. Ride safe!
I'll always rank the Diavel high in all regards. It's something very easy to work with, where in the Rocket make take the crown for massive cc figure and looks but its more harder bike to work with. Think of moving the Rocket backwards in some area with less turning ground that's going to be a nightmare.
I've owned the newer rocket 3 and only a 30 minute test ride on the Diavel v4 with the akrapovic exhaust. All I gotta say is when I finished my test ride on the Diavel I bought it instantly. The handling hands down beats the rocket. It's almost as nimble as my streetfighter. It's definitely a more fun bike than the rocket. Don't get me wrong. The rocket was a beast. Comfortable, torquey etc. But the Diavel just put me in that giddy mood. I love them both but I'll have to hand over the title to the Diavel
I've put 50,000+ miles on my 2022 Rocket 3 R, including a 7,000-mile ride from the southeast US to the Canadian Rockies. I love the bike. I would not trade it for a V4, but I am saving my pennies to purchase a V4. Each bike has its advantages. It seems the only good answer is to own both. If I had to pick one, the Rocket wins if for no other reason than it has a shaft drive. I hate chain maintenance.
I've had a Speed Triple RS for the past two years but now moving over to the Diavel. Picking mine up this Saturday and can't wait!!!!! Like the Rocket but just think it looks too cumbersome, the Ducati on the otherhand is just pure Italian majic but now with a dash of German reliability!! (being owned by Audi/VW)
Obviously voids the warranty but simply tuning the ecu unlocks more horsepower than than I've ever seen from simply reflashing. It's shocking how much triumph has restricted this bike from the factory
gearing weight … diavel spin biger rpm on the same gear + is lighter thats why it can go close roll-on at the same gear from low to mid rpm cos at biger it leave rocket in the dust 👌🏻 if you setup regulation in such way 👉🏻 the same velocity the same rpm dosent matter what gear is required for make the same rpm in both at the same velocity and from idlle up to rpm limiter so 6,5-7 k rpm rocket beat diavel at same gear it be close to certain rpm depend on precise diffrenc in gearing weoght power level at specified rpm must be precise calulcated + drive train losesss roll and drag , roll on from optimal rpm like in race in both and diavel smoked rocket diavel start from 9 k rpm rocket from 5 k rpm so both from like 80-90% rpm before peak power and rocket dont have chance cos both generate similar power but diavel is much lighter end of stpry .
If I were going to get one of these, it'd be a second bike next to my Tuono. I don't need another fun bike to carve canyons. That's what my Tuono is for. I would, however, love a Rocket to crush highway miles. If I could only have 1 bike, it wouldn't be either of these. But it would be the Triumph for me as a second bike.
Just bought a 2025 rocket 3gt. The bike with its new black and blue color scheme is sick! Will sit nicely next to my 2017 harley fat boy s. I started with sport bikes and enjoyed them for years until i got old. Much prefer comfort and torque over top end speed now. However, id love to add a diavel 1260s or xdiavel to my collection, those were the best looking gen for the diavel in my opinion. The V4 diavel feels cheap compared to the older gen and doesn't look as sexy.
Forgot noisy chain drive of Diavel vs shaft drive of the Rocket. And there's not a single passenger in the world that wouldn't opt for the comfort of the Rocket. Another tip regarding the engines: the Rocket 3's engine is SEVERELY restrained from the factory. It has reduced fuel at the higher RPMs and the revving is cut way prematurely. As you can easily find it can rev for 1500 more and given the proper fuelling it can be a 200 hp bike...with no other modifications done.
Interesting. I just watched Lamb Chops comparison and they loved the Diavel. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford either of these bikes,,,,,you've got a dream job my friend
Rocket III for me. It just stops me dead every time I see it. The Diavel is beautiful to look at and I am sure it’s fun to throw around, but at my age I am less interested in that and more interested in the sheer presence and comfort of the Rocket III. Of course we could all have one of each! 😂
For my money the Rocket is the best all around street bike out there. I can play with the sport bikes (i have passed more of them than have passed me) and do long tours with the baggers (just finished a 3100 mile 8 day ride, wouldn’t want to do that on the Diavel). Plus that torque provides never ending grins, lol.
I test drove both of these models. In conclusion, if you like riding with the strength of your inner thighs, choose the Rocket 3R, and if you like riding lightly with your hips, choose the Ducati. Ducati is good because the foot placement, seat comfort, and dashboard design are pretty. Rocket 3's engine power is acceptable, but the seat is a bit hard, the place to place your feet is a bit awkward, and I don't like the stupid instrument panel. Also, because the oil tank is huge, it feels a lot of pressure, and the seating position is uncomfortable, making long-distance travel impossible.
Both look like great bikes im coming from a supersport honda RR love my speed and handling but as time goes on im beginning to think otherwise looking for a sporty cruiser. Was thinking the Rebel 1100 until a friend showed me the Rocket 3R never knew it existed an i must say its absolutely stunning actually goin to look at one this weekened. Ive gotta see it in person it just looks like my type of bike bold makes a statement and itll be easy to find it in a crouded bike event 😂 unlike my honda RR until i painted the wheels hyper orange. Great video.. keep the rubber side down. Safe riding guys and girls!
Well with the money saved on the Rocket One can get an aftermarket exhaust and ECU flash and then the R3 gets closer to 175+bhp on the back wheel. And even more torque! But as an exacting Sunday blast machine Ducati probably still will get my vote because of the lower weight and better agility. So Rocket is a better cruiser but Ducati is a better naked motorcycle. I would be happy with any of the two
Have a 2022 R3gt, 7k on it , has been flawless, also a 2019 Speedmaster with over 20K on it had a couple issues but were covered by the factory, looking at at K1600B and or XDiavel
Traded a 2018 Fat Boy for my 2017 R3R and haven't looked back. Love the comfort, power, and looks of the older Rockets (like mine). However, if I could afford it, I'd probably have one of the new ones!
I just ordered a new 2025 rocket 3gt. I also own a 2017 harley fat boy s with a stage 4, 117ci kit and other engine mods. Love my harley but i wanted to add another bike to my collection that is more refined and a little better with handling compared to my super low fat boy that scrapes floor boards at the slightest turn lol. I think the rocket 3gt will be that extra something I'm craving while still giving me the comfortable cruiser feel.
A bit of let down in terms of diavel's looks if im honest, the older one looked sleeker amd meaner.. the new model looks kinda iffy, compared to rocket 3 design, it's no contest.. And that v4 engine, i feel like it would be a semi direct competitor to the streetfighter.. honestly the old v twin diavel had was it's own class.. too bad they teplaced it
I picked a new Triumph Rocket 3 R. I’ve had it for Two months and it’s just a great bike. It’s really the smooth very highly cultured 007-James Bond of bikes. No question about it whatsoever. When you cruise on the bike, you really do hear the cool slinky theme music to 007. It rides like a dream does the twisties very well. Funnily, I’ve met quite a few bikers that are intimidated by the rocket 3. More interestingly though is a lot of women like owning the bike and their intimidation of the bike for some reason doesn’t exist. I kind of think it’s the testosterones the rocket extrudes and men often are intimidated by something that’s more manly than they feel they are. Who knows? But that’s a real phenomenon I’ve seen many times.
A rider who likes lighter weight bikes, more an enthusiast, looks at handling not just raw speed, chooses the Ducati. Those who like power and torque above all regardless of heavy weight, choose the Triumph. Rocket owners say how well it handles but thats relative. Sure it handles well for a 700 pound bike, but not compared to lighter bikes. Its physics.
Great points Rob, tbh I loved owning my Rocket 3R and to me it's just more special. However having owned one for 18mo, 9000 miles and since sold then now I do covet the Diavel, for a sportier ride, and I loved the Diavel when it first come out, the weight difference of the v5 version is a big reason and the longer service intervals. Also fancy a Gen2 Vmax, or a ZH2 if I can ignore the looks. I also love my OG 1985 Vmax, the original bad daddy.
I live in an area with very steep hills, some questionable road quality here and there (Seattle). If im cruising it cant be on something that weighs as much as a car if I get stuck. And if im sport riding I want something lightweight and flickable that doesnt require massive braking power to bring down from speed in a sketchy situation. Neither for me, but they are nice on a poster.
Owned an R3 and that bike was so good in a straight line, but Nothing like the Duc V4 NOTHING~!!!!! My 1158 will Eat that 2300 for Breakfast, lunch and Dinner, and still have room for dessert
I'm trying to decide between these two right now... the Rocket III has the edge for me I think because I really want an aftermarket exhaust and $7500 for the stupid Akra on the Ducati is a war crime.
Both don’t compare to the Ducati Xdiavel which hits peak power lower and achieves circa 50mpg which neither of these bikes achieve. From a value for money and low end peak power delivery you cannot beat the xdiavel even coupled with the termi system. The new Diavel has a smoother engine no doubt but the bars are narrow and makes you feel like a 🦖 and is too plastic happy. I love the rocket but which it was lighter and more efficient with space in the cockpit for a garmin sat nav as opposed to the close cut fly screen. Nice review but I think the X is still a player and is overlooked imo.
If people buying one of these need the 1k quid difference in price, they shouldn't be buying one of these to begin with. So, I really don't think price is a win or lose choice. Styling is 100% subjective. I like the Ducati styling way better than the Triumph's. But that is just me. What is missing is build quality. I'd almost bet Triumph would win this category, but Ducati has made great strides to improve in their quality too. Also IMHO, the engine should have gone to the Diavel. The Rocket's engine is almost gaudy and over exaggerated, like a caricature. It's a small penis compensator if I've ever saw one. It's overkill to say the least. Some people may want that. I certainly don't, thus the Diavel would be my choice between the two for sure, just on that criteria alone. And as others have mentioned, on a motorcycle you want to have fun. And the Diavel will offer much more fun than the big lug Rocket. And fun factor to me is a much more weighted category than any other.
No, you can safely assume they are not! They are happy to sleep on the wheel, churning out hideous sport tourers like the Tracer GT 9 when they could have easily updated the FJR to bring it to modern standards.
If only they had refreshed the VMAX . . . 🤦♂️ Sales or not, that was one Hell of a Halo Bike. Rear cylinder deactivation, finger follower valve train, an Eco/low power Map for commuting and a 6th gear overdrive for long distance riding would have done wonders for making it a better value and daily rider proposition.
@@GIGABACHIvmax might be the ugliest bike I’ve ever seen but it’s a shame because that engine is one of life’s true joys and it sounds like it ate part of a mustang 💪🏽💪🏽

The triumph would be my choice!😊
I've put 50,000+ miles on my 2022 Rocket 3 R, including a 7,000-mile ride from the southeast US to the Canadian Rockies. I love the bike. I would not trade it for a V4, but I am saving my pennies to purchase a V4. Each bike has its advantages. It seems the only good answer is to own both. If I had to pick one, the Rocket wins if for no other reason than it has a shaft drive. I hate chain maintenance.
The Rocket 3 looks like a Boss Hoss motorcycle. I’d feel self conscious on that thing lol
Mate, it's been a year. Tell us how the Diavel compares to the Street Triple please! Thanks!
Obviously voids the warranty but simply tuning the ecu unlocks more horsepower than than I've ever seen from simply reflashing. It's shocking how much triumph has restricted this bike from the factory
So that they can sell new models with slightly more power each time
On another channel the Diavel pulled on the Rocket in roll-on situations in all gears (engine!!)
gearing weight … diavel spin biger rpm on the same gear + is lighter thats why it can go close roll-on at the same gear from low to mid rpm cos at biger it leave rocket in the dust 👌🏻 if you setup regulation in such way 👉🏻 the same velocity the same rpm dosent matter what gear is required for make the same rpm in both at the same velocity and from idlle up to rpm limiter so 6,5-7 k rpm rocket beat diavel at same gear it be close to certain rpm depend on precise diffrenc in gearing weoght power level at specified rpm must be precise calulcated + drive train losesss roll and drag , roll on from optimal rpm like in race in both and diavel smoked rocket diavel start from 9 k rpm rocket from 5 k rpm so both from like 80-90% rpm before peak power and rocket dont have chance cos both generate similar power but diavel is much lighter end of stpry .
Isn't the Rocket 3 a transverse triple rather than in-line?
No. It's inline
Rocket3 all day.
Rocket for features plus sheer presence 😀
I would be happy with any of the two
Engine and styling go to the Diavel in my book.
Ricket III over here!!
Have a 2022 R3gt, 7k on it , has been flawless, also a 2019 Speedmaster with over 20K on it had a couple issues but were covered by the factory, looking at at K1600B and or XDiavel
Nice review, but the complete omission of mentioning the VMAX as a competitor suggests an opportunity for more research.
I agree with everything accept the styling. The rocket is a look we’ve seen before where the Ducati is unique.
Lol where have you seen anything else like the rocket!!!
And that v4 engine, i feel like it would be a semi direct competitor to the streetfighter.. honestly the old v twin diavel had was it's own class.. too bad they teplaced it
Polite comments, no trash talking...cant believe im on youtube. Good job guys.
I traded my 07 zx14 on a new 08 rocket 3 back in the day, both bikes were equally viscous just in different ways, Id love a new rocket 🤔
Always the Rocket, it's a masterpiece!
I purchased The Rocket 3GT recently. Shaft drive and very large tires and Brembos. If it's not better than sex it is a close runner up.
I find the Rocket uncomfortable on a long ride as the wind forces my legs out (which makes them ache after a while) due to the wide fuel tank.
Diavel for me, i see it as a muscle bike, not a cruiser in any way though, I'd be happy with either mind you! :)
Definitely the rocket as I think the Ducati will go out of fashion in markets where speed is an issue
Awesome video Bob 👍🏽
Well done, please tell us your favourite tween Rocket and Goldwing DCT now?
A rider who likes lighter weight bikes, more an enthusiast, looks at handling not just raw speed, chooses the Ducati. Those who like power and torque above all regardless of heavy weight, choose the Triumph. Rocket owners say how well it handles but thats relative. Sure it handles well for a 700 pound bike, but not compared to lighter bikes. Its physics.
I love my 2010 R3.
At my age (62) and if I have the money, I'd go for the Rocket GT.
Díavel to ride, the Rocket to own. Owning a Ducati is an absolute chore sometimes.
Bring back the BMW K1300
ROCKET 3 GT
Triumph rocket 3R red color is always best for me ..
TR3 any day.
The Diavel may cost more... but I think it actually costs less when it comes down to maintainance and taxes!
For me, a metric that you didn't cover, that would be the scale tipper for me, is RELIABILITY! Which manufacturer has more known reliability issues?
The Diavel is closer related to the Speed Triple 1200 RS.
Just me or Triumph with that WALL-E vibe fr.
The Rocket is special - has its own engine with ridiculous specs - ie suitable for this application
Me looking at my Vmax : "dw darling you're still the best to me"
Ducati for me tks Bob.
Owned an R3 and that bike was so good in a straight line, but Nothing like the Duc V4 NOTHING~!!!!! My 1158 will Eat that 2300 for Breakfast, lunch and Dinner, and still have room for dessert
Diavel just doesn't have a cruiser vibe at all - it's a naked bike. The Rocket 3 is true PERFORMANCE cruiser.
I'm trying to decide between these two right now... the Rocket III has the edge for me I think because I really want an aftermarket exhaust and $7500 for the stupid Akra on the Ducati is a war crime.
The best is the one you like the most ❤️ if you hesitate, get both 😂
Both don’t compare to the Ducati Xdiavel which hits peak power lower and achieves circa 50mpg which neither of these bikes achieve.
Triumph Rocket 3 for me😎
If people buying one of these need the 1k quid difference in price, they shouldn't be buying one of these to begin with.
If I could only have one, I'm taking the rocket. But since I'm dreaming, and it's free, I'm getting them both. Peace MOTOBOB.
The diavel is the exact bike I would want ,,,,, except for being chain driven.
I hope Yamaha is watching…
No, you can safely assume they are not! They are happy to sleep on the wheel, churning out hideous sport tourers like the Tracer GT 9 when they could have easily updated the FJR to bring it to modern standards.
If only they had refreshed the VMAX . . . 🤦♂️
Sales or not, that was one Hell of a Halo Bike.
Rear cylinder deactivation, finger follower valve train, an Eco/low power Map for commuting and a 6th gear overdrive for long distance riding would have done wonders for making it a better value and daily rider proposition.
@@GIGABACHIvmax might be the ugliest bike I’ve ever seen but it’s a shame because that engine is one of life’s true joys and it sounds like it ate part of a mustang 💪🏽💪🏽
please upload the comparison video between super meteor and honda rebel 500🔥
diavelv4 is powercruiser/naked new class rocket is powercruiser . more torq rocket make the same power at lower rpm 👌🏻
Rocket 3r
For me it’s Triumph all the way
