Thank you for your recipe on Chess Pie. It looks delicious. Please thank your husband for reading /sharing with us Proverbs 18:10. How refreshing to our heart and mind.
What a beautiful southern Belle this woman is! I love learning to cook and bake the way my momma and grandmomma did and this channel is just what I needed.
Thanks so much! You are so kind and I appreciate the sweet compliment. I hope you can make yourself at home here and look around the playlists and find something you like. ❤️katie
My favorite. I’m from VA. My grandmother would bake a Chess pie and store it in the pantry. I would sneak in the pantry and cut a very thin slice so it wouldn’t be detected
I’ve always lived in the south. I’ve traveled the world and there’s just nothing like the south. So warm and comforting! I was introduced to chess pie years ago and it was love at first bite! I will certainly have to try this recipe as I’ve been wanting chess pie lately. Thanks for the scripture in closing! God bless you!
THE WORLD DOES NEED TO KNOW & IT CAN CURE YOUR HEART & SOUL!!! ALL THESE RECIPES THEY'VE BEEN SHOWING HAS ME CRAVING THE DELICIOUS SCRUMPTIOUS TREAT. GREAT VIDEO & YUMMY 😘
Hi Mrs. Katie, This pie looks wonderful!! And I love what you are doing with your channel. This was a fantastic video. And please thank Mr. Patient for the bit of inspiration at the end. Beautiful. Plus, it’s always a delight to see the “littles”! Love, Mary❤️😘❤️
I'm from Middle Tennessee also!! My grandma used to make this for Sunday dinner, as a kid I couldn't say chess pie, I would call it chest pie lol 😂 God bless you!!
haha! Yes ma'am, I thought it was chest pie too. LOL So happy to "see" a fellow middle Tennessean. Mr. P is from Columbia and I am originally from Lewisburg/Chapel Hill area. 😃❤️
Love your family ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Proverbs 18:10 is a proverb I use daily, for His name is a place of refuge🙌🏼 HalleluYAH to the name of our Lord 🙏🏼 God bless you all the n Jesus name!
I just moved to Nashville from New York and had my first piece of chess pie this week. Loved it and I’m gonna try to make my own soon. I also love the Bible verse you put in your video. :)
It’s my favorite pie. A friend introduced me to Chess Pie . She has passed on. She wouldn’t tell me the recipe and insisted I not look it up. So, now that she is no longer with us, it’s okay if I get the recipe now. She told me that since I was sensitive to milk, I would not ever get her recipe anyway. Besides, Chess Pie was her special gift to me . 😊 Thank you.😊
Yum! It must be good, look at those smiles! I've heard of Chess pie but never had it before. Looks like I'll need to try it soon! Thanks Mr. Patient for the encouragement!👍 God bless y'all 😘
My Grandma from Texas made this pie...and my sister carried on the tradition of making it. They are the only people I know that makes it. Love that you ended this with a scripture.
Mama called it boone's chess pie as it had been handed down in the family from Daniel boone's family. The original recipe used buttermilk, not whole milk. Also, I can't eat really sweet food these days, so I take out half of the sugar and it is great. I have also used the recipe as a pudding, everything the same but no crust. Good this way too
That is so very cool about Daniel Boone and that heritage. I love your use of buttermilk. Someone else mentioned that to me as well. I don't really prefer super-sweet desserts either.
We live in Middle Tennessee, Columbia. The grocery store where we shop most(Piggly wiggly) has a big table right in the front of the store featuring their chess pies! They have chocolate and coconut but the original is the best. The only thing I would do different from this recipe is I would use buttermilk instead of whole milk. More flavor. Chess pie is criminally delicious!
We know all about Columbia's PW! My husband, Mr. Patient, is from Columbia and his mama worked at the Pig for years. His family has been from Columbia for years and now his mama lives over near Stan's..out that direction, toward Lewisburg/Chapel Hill (where I lived for 35 years). My grandparents lived in Columbia, on Rolling Fields. I lived there for a little while on Park Circle. So many years of memories in Maury Co. In fact, my great-grandfather's name was Maury. Love hearing from our hometown folks!! 😍
@@HeritageWaysKatie my grandmother used to make them but not many around here make the chocolate ones. They are really rich though so serving with whipped cream is nice to cut that richness.
In the book, The Story of Our Liberty (I may have that a little wrong), it speaks of the tower of the city as the king's fortress when the city was being attacked. Inside the tower were provisions for a long stay for several people. Reading that, then coming across that verse after, made it mean even more to me. I love chess pie. I didn't know it had cornmeal in it. Alas, I can't eat that kind of sweets anymore. So glad you are able to get raw milk! What a blessing.
Hi our Mrs Kt💖, your Chess pie 🥧 looks absolutely awesome, just soo so good! I had never heard of it before ?? they say that the simplest things in life are often the best...you proved that to be true!...just good, wholesome ingredients, like those in your pie 🥧 ( oh & plus THE special ingredient- a mommas 💕 love😉) Beautiful pie dear Kt♥️xxx
Oh my goodness...this tutorial blessed me in so, so many ways. Love your witness for Christ Jesus! The Holy Spirit just beams our like the brightest light in all of you. I can't wait to try your Chess Pie Recipe. When I was very young my family and I always went to Furr's Cafeteria after Church on Sunday Morning. I have the best memories of just being happy, all of us in a perfect peace zone. My favorite desert at Furr's was the Chess Pie. I LOVED it and got it every Sunday. Then when I was 14, my two very best friends (and still are today) and I got a job at that Furr's Cafeteria and got a piece of that Chess Pie almost every day. If I didn't get the Chess Pie, I got the Apple Dumpling and still to this day have not found one that taste as good as there's. I can't wait to try your recipe. And those kids are gorgeous! I don't think I have ever seen eyes that are as gorgeous as theirs. I think you could swim in them. Thank you so much for taking your valuable time to share with total strangers. I pray God rains down His Blessings on all of you!
Well, your comment, kind friend, blesses me as much as you indicate this video does for you. Thank-you! I am happy that you enjoyed this pie tutorial so much and perhaps you'll try out the recipe. No doubt, it might not be as good as your memories of Furr's but we can try. 😃 The three children in this video are our youngest three who are now 11, 14, 15. They are adopted and have American Indian heritage which explains the eyes. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you do make yourself at home here at Heritage Ways. ❤️🏡❤️ Katie

@@joyce9523 I just double-checked the recipe and it is correct. In fact the original recipe calls for "1 cup rich milk". Your evaporated milk fits that bill. Although, if you are short on milk or want to be more frugal, you can reconstitute the evaporated milk, using 1/2 cup evaporated mixed with 1/2 cup water. I discuss this very idea in today's White Lasagna video. HOpe that helps.
Hello friend! It's so funny that you ask that because making a Buttermilk Pie video is on my list of things to do. Actually, it was supposed to come out this week (according to my schedule) but I haven't gotten it done yet. Soon, I hope! I have made Chess Squares many many times. They were a highly requested item when I had my own catering company. I'll add that recipe to my video list as well. Thanks for asking. Have a great week! ❤️katie
God bless you all too and im going to make this chess pie for my nephew. I will have too write down recipe as you go bc its not down below in box have blessed Thanksgiving day I hope ya'll did.
Thank you, for the great video, have you found any good ways to make the pie set better or is the somehwat runniness a characteristic of the pie? I've never had or seen chess pie before as I'm from the midwest, but it looks wonderful and I want to make sure i don't serve a runny pie when I serve mine. Would you consider putting it in the freezer for a short while right after baking if you had a freezer with nothing in it as to not ruin your other frozen goods? Anything would help, take care.
I completely agree that it is way yonder sweet. This is the traditional southern recipe but maybe you could make it with a cup or a cup and a fourth of sugar next time? I’m glad you tried it and I’m glad you let me know. Have a great day♥️katie
