    I make buttermilk pies quite often. My wife, kids, and granddaughter love them. I also sell them at the local farmer's market. It doesn't matter how many I bake, they all sell fast. People around East Texas love them.

    Hi Tammy! Had just enough buttermilk on hand to make two buttermilk pies which are now almost ready to come out of the oven...the aroma is wonderful! With my crew, it's safe to say, there will be no leftovers! This recipe is just like my grandmother made. Sure brings back memories. Thanks for sharing your recipe and thank you to both you and Chris for another video!! 😊

    • @CollardValleyCooks
      @CollardValleyCooks  4 місяці тому

      I have no idea. Not sure if you made this pie and froze it. I would think a buttermilk pie might even settle or separate. I would have thawed it first to see. If it's already baking just cook it on 325 until it's set in the middle. May take at least an hour. Cook at a lower temp to keep edges from getting too brown

    I'm so glad I found this recipe! I used to get buttermilk pie from a little restaurant near where I worked. Everyone at worked loved it. Most people away from work that I mentioned it to had never heard of it. No longer working at the same place, I haven't had buttermilk pie in ages. I kinda forgot about it until I found this video. I'm really looking forward to having buttermilk pie again. Thanks for posting this recipe.

    I went to the store to get a pint of buttermilk and all they had was one, half gallon carton. After I purchased it, I was trying to figure out how to use it up before it went bad, because it had been marked down as a clearance item. I remembered my mom making buttermilk pie when I was a child and decided to make one for the first time. It was delicious. I gave some to my nieces and nephew. They never heard of it, and now they love it too. My recipe is similar to this one except I added a little lemon juice.

    I’ve never tasted a buttermilk pie. I suppose that’s from the deep South. My parents were from Southern Kentucky. My mom loved buttermilk! She would drink it straight from the carton. I couldn’t do that but I do like buttermilk in baked items. I wonder what the difference is in this pie and what’s called a chess pie. They both look the same sort of.

    I was thinking it looks just like a coconut pie. With a coconut pie, you just add your coconut to the filling and pour it into the crust. Mmm..so good! I was wondering why you prefer vanilla flavoring to pure vanilla extract?

    • @CollardValleyCooks
      @CollardValleyCooks  5 років тому +1

      It is just what I have now in the pantry.

    • @joanl.7543
      @joanl.7543 5 років тому +2

      Pure extract is either very expensive, or just sort of wimpy. I taste more flavor with imitation vanilla extract (compared with the affordable natural ones). And I'm largely a fan of all-natural.
      Of course, I'm brining up five kids and several of them will take the extract for use with hot cocoa, etc. so I have to sort of watch it.

    • @joanl.7543
      @joanl.7543 5 років тому

      It's my understanding that vanillin, the artificial imitation of vanilla, actually comes chemically closer to the natural product that most artificial flavors do.

    I never want to make a buttermilk pie again. About 20 years ago I got ready to sell my home and a neighbor who was an x real estate person said he would sell my house for me at no charge if I would make him a buttermilk pie every day until it was sold. Well we each kept our bargain and I made over 30 buttermilk pies one each day until the house sold. My house sold at a record price and my neighbor ate a LOT of pie.

      Here you go it is in our 1st Cookbook:
      Peach Cobbler
      16OZ. BAG FROZEN PEACHESWATER 1/2 STICK OF BUTTER1 CUP SUGARDASH OF SALT2 HEAPING TBSP. SELF RISING FLOUR1/2 CUP MILKPlace peaches, water to cover them, butter and cup of
      sugar in a medium microwaveable bowl.
      Cook for 15 minutes on high. Now put 2 tbsp. flour in ½ cup of milk
      whisk it very well and put in peaches and stir.
      MAKE A BISCUIT DOUGH: Make
      while microwaving peaches😊
      11/2 CUP SELF RISING FLOUR4TBSP OF BUTTER IN THIN PIECES1/2CUP OF MILK 1/2 STICK BUTTER
      Combine flour with butter. Blend with pastry fork or
      cutter. Add milk. Place dough on floured surface and flip 4-5
      times. Roll out 1/4” thick. Place peaches in baking dish sprayed with
      pam. Then top with this biscuit
      dough. You can piece it together if you
      need to. It will still be just as
      good. Melt butter and pour over dough.
      TOPPING: 1/2
      cup sugar & 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. 1/8 cup finely chopped pecans.
      Bake at 375 degrees until
      bubbly and brown. “Oh my, this is so
      good. It’s even good at room temperature” Tammy

    LOVE buttermilk pie. I spread 1/2 cup of chopped pecans at the bottom of the crust. Then gently pour the mixture over the pecans. Bake as usual. So good!

    Tammy, I just gotta say THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting the written recipe in the drop down. It REALLY helps that we don't have to go search, Lord knows where, on your site for it. Great Job!!! Stay Blessed.

    This is one of my favorite pies! I also have made buttermilk pie with peaches in it, which is delicious. Now I've got to try coconut!

    This is one of my all time favorites. So delicious!! I love the way you used the very large measuring cup to mix all the ingredients. Your crust is beautiful.
