The example of Brendon Hartley shows how politics in F1 is made. Helmut Marko should consider retiring himself instead of "retiring" drivers who performed well but were a little bit of unlucky. All the best to Brendon!

Brendon didn't perform that well. I'll say that he was decent and probably with time enough good for f1. But that's not Red Bull's or Marko's philosophy. They want to find drivers that can fight up to world championships. If the driver doesn't seem to be that worth they'll kick the driver out.

I'd say this is a Red Bull thing rather than a general trend. Red Bull expects mistake-free drivers, and this mentality is biting them. I like to put Grosjean's example. He had a horrendous start of the season. But Haas believed on him and he bounced back at the end of the season

Just one of the things that bothers me so much about Red Bull as an organisation. They’s supposed to develop their drivers for the long run, not boot them after one season. For someone like Hartley who is one of the nicest guys in the sport, whose bad results this year were mostly down to either car failure or others mistakes, he did have some pretty good runs towards the end and for this to happen to him is cruelly unfair for him, given how well he’s established himself in other racing leagues.

    He just dint cut it.
He wasnt a rookie as he did got a chanse before.
Gasly did a much better job overal.
F1 is a harsh enviroment where often you get one chanse and when you get that chanse you need to show you are without a doubt the man suited for the job and prove your worth.
I loved Hartley as a F1 fan and the way he looks and behaves but at the end of the day you need results and he more often then not wasnt there to deliver.
    PS:
I bet Hartley is able to murder many race classes as he did in WEC.
F1 is just a totaly other beast where some drivers like Stoffel Vandoorne oblitirated an entire field in GP2 and just could not keep that speed in F1 for whatever reason.
When you make it to F1 you are without a doubt a super racing talent, but once you are there you race against the most talented drivers in the world wich on its own is the king of kings class of racing and sadly these cars dont suit everyone.
If Hartley would go back to a WEC i bet he is again able to crush skulls as he certainly is a beast of a driver and sadly F1 cars seems not suited to his style of driving.

I dont know as its hard to tell wich driver is better if they arent driving in the same car.
I know that Kvyat did beat Ricciardo on points when they were at Red Bull.
I also know that Ricciardo beat Vettel on points.
So its really hard to judge this.
Kvyat made a mess in his last F1 season tough, and sadly Brendon even with his bad luck also did some major flaws wich makes it even harder to rate one of them better.
I do like Brendon alot more then Kvyat tough, and i think both drivers should have gotten more time and trust from Toro Rosso as both guys seemed to got the bad side of the stick.
But like i said its F1 and you have to throw all your balls on the table and drive like a god to hold your seat :)

  • @NxDoyle
    @NxDoyle 5 років тому

Well now, we knew before he put his butt in a car that Hartley was a good and seasoned racer, not a kid coming up through the open wheeler ranks. And I'm sure that most F1 fans of long standing could see that Brendon's road was not going to be an easy one to plough. The nature of Toro Rosso in the context of RBR means that a journeyman racer in his late 20's, racing for a 'feeder' team, was never going to be a long term prospect.
I say this with no malice, if anything I have a soft spot for him, Aussie to Kiwi. And he's landed a Ferrari development role, which is at least keeping him at the pointy end of motorsport.

He suffered alot of bad luck on track, but it's his biggest slice of bad luck to be in F1 when teams are hypersensitive to having points scorers from the get go, no longer building the drivers up a season or two, Sirotkin suffering the same fate. Remember F1 is a business first and a sport second.

Torro Rosso are ruthless and short sighted especially since Honda loved the feedback from Brendon. Now TR has no Honda driver knowledge and will sacrifice Albion and Daniil Kvyat with penalties to develop the PU for Red Bull. Instead Ferrari now has Brendon as a development driver and all that Honda PU & Electric inside knowledge of TR and Red Bull with him.
