No. Marudanayagam was dropped because the foreign companies backed off after Pokhran Nuclear test done by India. The geopolitical issue made companies back out from Indian projects for sometime.
Maruthanayagam was affected by geopolitical issues at that time. India had done nuclear tests in pokhran entering the nuclear club. That caused foreign investments to be stopped for a some time. Then KH made the classics Hey Ram and Virumandi which were again affected by controversies and didn't do well at box office. This did break him leading to the now famous drunk rant which became viral (at least in Tamil Nadu), watch it if you can get it subtitled.

@@sivasakthi3645 Compared to today when good movies are making losses? sure it can be considered a hit. But at that time being a Pongal release, I remember that it didn't do as well as expected. Also got overshadowed by movies like Autograph which came out a month or so later.

Fascinating to know Kamal has his own wiki page just for unreleased films but that speaks volumes to the love and determination of Kamal Hassan towards the art which just keeps him going and even today delivers massive box office hits like Vikram. Truly an OG of Indian Cinema

One Bengali is making such a good film, and another Bengali is trying best to lick British boots. Indradip Dasgupta will be remembered for the blunder he did.

Kamal Haasan's Naanum oru thozhilali tamil film launched by the director Sridhar in 1980 was postponed. Then the shooting was progressed in 1986 and released. It would be clearly seen in the film the difference in making, acting and the body including face of the actors as the shooting continued after seven years.

I'm pretty sure in the KWK episode with Vicky And Sid, Karan said that due to the lockdown, they had to postpone the shootings but if everything goes well, they'll probably start filming soon, most probably after the Ranveer and Alia film.

You must watch Kamal Hassan's staring Vishwaroopam which was written, directed by himself. The film was released worldwide, excluding Tamil Nadu due to numerous issues. And released later and became highest grossing Tamil film of that year.

Most of these projects anyways would have been economic disasters. Everyone are just looking at the cool concepts but are forgetting who are handling these projects and if that concept has an enough authenticity to stand out. Perhaps it’s good that these projects are either shelved or are being reinterpreted which would safeguard producers or distributors from huge losses. 🙏

Marudhanayagam is also a muslim convert, guess why this movie can't get released in india and after that he done wars with British colonizers and won in some of the battles. after becoming muslim he treated everyone equally and never discriminated on colour or caste. He was captured during his morning prayer (namaz- muslim prayer) and hanged on 15 October 1764 at Sammatipuram near Madurai. Yusuf Khan was his name, when he converted to Islam. it's not boasting but saying the real history which no one in india will talk about it. Kamal Hassan showed some of that bits in trailer of mardhanayagam
