you've literally done what I want to do in the future. Turn a vintage vehicle into something that has so much power, looks......GORGEOUS, has amazing handling and comfort while driving (with this truck, you can just tell that its amazing in those ways), and has modern technology integrated into it the vehicle (wifi hotspot, touchscreen nav, etc).
I feel so so privileged to have you take the time out of your day to even answer me. Thank you and ICON. The best company on earth!
My background is vintage home restoration. When I go to a car show, I am amazed at how often I ask "why is that there?". When it comes to Icon, I never have a single question, only a hope, that someday I might get one. Jonathan does such a good job professionally explaining his craft.
Wow...! I am a patina' lover myself....but you have some "Next Level" stuff going on with this truck! I know there is a fine line mixing old with new technology, but you have an eye for what works! I don't think most people understand the amount of hours of work that you have MODESTLY explained in this video. Just in the dash alone....WOW! You Sir, are a definite asset to the automotive industry!! Your Desoto Wagon is more my style....but I'm sure you have no problems finding customers for what any vehicle you offer! Great Work!!!
i love how this guys voice is so laid back and relaxed. the amount of work in these cars, im sure hes just plain exhausted.
Awesome truck, Mr. Ward! I love all the engineering and the attention to detail you put on all your Icon cars. Great job, keep up the good work.
Another masterpiece from Icon. You've excelled yourself again Jonathon.
Thanks, this is another great video thanks for sharing all of your creations. The quality of the films have steadily increased since I started watching a few months ago keep up the great work, on the trucks and on youtube
This is probably the most badasstical trucks I've seen on youtube, or anywhere else. Good on ya, brother.
I love the classy attention to detail and ingenuity of these projects. This really appeals to me.
This guy is awesome, I love this channel I love Icon. If I had the money, there would be plenty of ICONs in my garage.
This man's work is exquisite, I really love the small details and the work put into these vehicles!
This is one of the best trucks I have ever seen. What makes this truck above other customs is that all the custom work doesnt look custom. This is really really hard to do. Especially with the interior work and especially with the era. Incredible, awesome, what a rig!
Splendid works, great, five thumbs up👏👏👏😀😀😀💪💪💪
One real sleeper, not knowing what to expect. Very well done, thanks.
That truck is balling out of control!!!!!! Keep up the amazing work
This is flawless! True piece of art. Amazing job!
Man, great vid. I love your passion. Saw you on Jay Leno's garage and went looking for your channel. Subscribed!
You had me at cup holders. The basketball net folding cup holders are the cat's meow.
This is my new favorite icon the desoto was but not anymore that thing is freakin sweet! Keep up the great work!
I also admire that when they build their custom trucks they don't make any short cuts just a professional build.you can honesty say you're getting a new truck. Thanks
No words!!!! Perfect to me, just amazing!!! thank for this video... hugs from Brazil
Great truck, awesome eye for details.
Absolutely beautiful truck! If I had the money I would get one with a turbo Diesel engine, 6 speed manual, no Kenwood stereo, and a 4x4 drive train.
Awesome example of Craftsmanship. I really like the Wheels, smoothie rim and brighter highlight accent at the rubber and center cap.
Truly relive the era.....good job John....
I watch and love every minute of your geeky videos. If ever I win a lottery, you'll win one too!
Nice🙂 really nice🙂
My favorite ICON vehicle - just...beautiful.
Hope i'll be able to afford one of your amazing rolling works of art one day.
Indeed. Given what they must go for, calling it 'Thriftmaster' is really, really funny.
Wow fantastic.
These are incredible functional pieces of art, you're an incredible craftsman Mr. Ward. Thanks so much for sharing these vids.
I have a 1953 deluxe cab 3100 myself, it was my first vehicle. My dad and I worked it over back in 1990, it isn't stock and looks like crap now but I plan on rebuilding it and modernizing it some day.
Inspiring work. Very cool.
Awesome. I LOVE the art deco theme. If I had the $$$$$ I would have you do a art deco car. Like a Delahaye or something like that. LONG hood, Viper or Triton V10 engine, killer front grille, big wheel fenders etc. Some day...
Awesome build 👍
That's a big metal bundle of awesomeness!
Say, Guys, that's a bad azz truck. I love your work.
captn.icon...you are the shiat!!! awsome kick ass piece of moochine
Stunning 😍 just Stunning 😎 Congrats to everyone involved in this project.
Watch out Jon, Mattel Toys would love to steal this one too.
I totally understand what Jonathan is doing; it's so beyond just creating hot rods.
I see his projects as organic in nature. There is a soul to these vehicles. Strange I know, but I feel it.
its an awesome truck ,, i think icon has taken the custom car and truck business to a whole new level they are making dreams that you can drive with no worries and enjoy ,, this truck is testament to their ability to give the customer exactly what they want.. the entire operation is awesome from the ford broncos to the thriftmaster to their derelicts.. they just make awesome daily driven cars that work and function ,, i have been impressed ever since ive seen them on Jay lenos garage .. only if you could find me a 65 GTO wagon two door .. thats my dream car ,,,, RJ Swinder lead guitar of Creation Of Sound
Very impressive. You thought of everything!!!
THIS TRUCK IS RIDICULOUSLY GORGEOUS.
In a small way I understand and appreciate your art. Restoring anything old takes work. I would rather see this than nothing. Nothing scares me. Very inspiring.
Love the truck. Kenwood however are gonna have to rethink the name of that system given the current situation in Syria
amazing build thanks for saving that truck !!
Form AND function. Timeless formula, exceptionally executed.
You should open a shop in Australia in order to ride the wave of automotive nostalgia going through the country now that the last major Australian car manufacturer has announced that they are shutting down in a few years. Offer classic FJs and a Holden or two and the entire country would cream it's self. Couple that with the overload of skilled workers who would willing to jump on board and the fact that Australia is far more suited to high quality low volume manufacturing for a local market in its current economic state and BOOM, you've got yourself another winning business. If you need a CEO, I'll be standing by.
Beautiful 👍🏼
Hi Jonathan, I really enjoy your videos. Information I'm always wishing you'd include: How long each build takes and how much each vehicle costs. On this video I think you mentioned 10 months, so thanks for that. I get the impression these cars are in the $100k-$200k range. That wi-fi hotspot on this truck is fascinating, I gotta find out more info about that. On a separate note, regarding the derelicts: I'm assuming you must remove any rust off the chrome parts. There is a fabulous rust-demolishing product I want to bring to your attention if you're not aware of it: It's called Chromax. It's a delicious-smelling (wintergreen mint?) paste with abrasive crystals that are constantly breaking down into finer and finer bits. You barely have to exert any effort and the rust comes right off. It works on chrome, stainless, and several other metals... [Edit: Autonet Mobile!]
jonathan ward if i had my own country i would make u a national hero ive not seen one of your creation and not liked it everything ive seen so far is spot on this by far is my farvorite well done sir
+Jonathan Ward very nice! I'm a big fan of your work
+snoopyy28 X2, attention to every detail. That TRIFTMASTER ICON on the hood put a smile on my face.
tastefully done
you guys have an amazing truck!
After seeing your truck i i need to restart my 54 restoration again, i want to see mine as yours, congrats man best regards from mexico i will keep somethings from your truck, let me say to you something about your truck it might be perfect with another seat style i guess, but everything else is the dream´s truck
I love the corner windows
OMG this is unreal ,its perfect... this is sirious ingeniering and art.
love it great build
Pure art. I wish I was rich!!
7:20 + " . . . all of it to create unity in the design." Words and a high-concept to live by. Rolling art.
That frame is enough to make your jaw drop
ive never seen such a bad ass truck.
So on this particular project you went with premier street rods for the cab. Well you received a good quality part
Thank You for the quick reply
nice work guys!!!!
nice paint job
wow that is NICE! what is a truck like the finished product worth now? thanks
wow that color is amazing
looks amazing, love it. Same as this beautiful truck how much dose it cost before shipping it out of USA?
Love the old truck but need to ICON it out as a 4x4 with a few design changes. If this model truck is to rare to do this project a 55 to 57 Chevy step side 4x4 with ICON tech would seriously rock.
really nice work the race mode sequence at the end of the vid is excellent
Jonathan, can you please tell me a little more about the color you used?
Love the "racing lines"
I hate that it has taken me this long to see this. But better late than never. As it is said. Awesome awesome truck. I really really dig the matte finish in the paint. Everything about this vehicle is awesome. My one big hope is that when I win the lottery I hope that I win enough to buy one of these "Thriftmaster" trucks as well as have a derelict built.
man that thing really handle that track
Just finished the video.. I really WANT a truck like this! This is why its worth working hard / smart 😉
Do you have to be on the computer to pick the color scheme and ride height ?
this is a nice truck so would you tell where did you buy the under hood fuse box?
What is your website called that you were talking about in the video ?
I had a '53 Chevy 3/4 ton (3600) 5 window that I got for a day's labor back in 1974. It was completely vandalized but I was lucky enough to have access to a pal's shop to rebuild the engine. I never put anything into the esthetics, it looked like a crappy old truck all the time I owned it. I sold it and the engine blew up about 1000 miles later, guess my rebuild wasn't the greatest.
It's fantastic what you do to these old cars/trucks but you have to have $150K-$200K and maybe more in parts & labor in them by the time you're done. It's hard for me to understand the economics, but they are really works of art.
Nice bit of kit
The last part of the video where you sped it up on the larger circuit track sounds exactly like a crossplane Yamaha R1 motor being ridden around a track minus a sequential gearbox.
Arthur Silva Lol had the same thought , sounds like an r1 crossplane crank or Aprilia rsv4
Beautiful.
damn nice truck... beautiful.....
@ 6:10 I would have preferred to see the Chevrolet 3100 badge.
Question, you started the video saying how you take a crispy 50's GMC pickup and take it to the final truck shown. The cab is a licensed reproduction, the bed looked too toasted to actually use in the final product. The badging, handles used were new. Ditto the frame, engine, transmission. How much, if any, of the original truck shown in the begining was actually used?
Do you Find the Premier Street Rod Sheet Metel Kits to be the same gauge and durability of the original trucks? Is their a difficulty in getting the alignment, seems and fit right?
I'm running out of superlatives... That is a work of art to the highest order...
awesome ..i want one
These trucks are so BADASS! One day I’ll own one
Who did the dash with the drop down doors. This is incredible and would love it in my 54'
I love ICON's stuff but I had to laugh. "Heres how we go from this (beat up old truck), to THIS! (new bad ass truck). First we take the frame, throw that away and buy a new one. Then we take the body, throw that away and buy a new one." Great job as always though. I HATE touch screens that you have to go through pages to just alter the damn climate control. Use some freakin knobs!!!! Just my opinion
Well no... usually he uses the full body for derelicts but for these reformers he buys the original truck and uses it as a reference obviously
I get your angle, but in the sense of charging labor hours, it's cheaper for them to buy new than to charge the customer hourly for the resto and fab time
I agree! What’s wrong with some chrome knobs man?🤔
What dose something like this start at cost wise? Just love it!!!
Amazing!!
I like it 😊
#impressive
...an exiting Retro driving experience you are offering, Sir! I am not in the position to criticize, however that panel hanging from the dashboard while using the digital functions, gives the impression of being damaged, a couple of loose cables would complete the image; why not using a reverse system like the one used by certain watch producers? Mind me, just my humble opinion, best regards!
If I ever hit the TN state lottery you're my first stop. I'd take one of each of your creations and drive the Holy Hell out of them. I'm positive they would hold up to the challenge.
Imagine an RV by this guy...
I admired his artwork, you have a certain clients that wants old vintage but modern and I respect that for me my taste it I had to choose one.or another an original factory truck yes there's still some around there's nothing like an original factory truck you can sit in and take on a time capsule. There's nothing wrong with reproduction parts as long as they made to original factory specifications. Then again if I won the lottery.I would buy both of the truck original and a custom. Thanks
OCD, limiting or liberating?
Jonathan Ward answers with a resounding LIBERATING!
Thanks Jonathan.
what an amazing piece of art!!!!! just perfect....wouldn't change anything
Your vehicles are incredible. Did you use the Art Morrison GT Sport Chassis or the GT Sport Performance Chassis?
Unreal. Beautiful. You didn't keep the vacuum wipers?? I never liked the looks of the long beds...until now.
This is out of this world.
