Stunning Brown Trout in a tiny spring creek, one of our favorite locations and combination! We take on cruising & searching brown trout in incredibly tight cover and structure in a favorite spring creek. It's a game of inches and angles as Amelia's luck is ever so slightly less than Dave's. Sometimes fly fishing brown trout in tiny spring creeks leaves us with slightly different result for painfully subtle reasons. Luck sometimes has a lot to play, but quite often subtle angles and mere inches on a cast can make the difference. In this video Dave's "luck" comes as result of those inches and angles.

Why this doesn't have more views 🤔Quality of fishing and filming deserves atleast 500k views. This video should be on top of everyone's trending page.
Well thank you for that - glad you enjoyed it! UA-cam is it's own beast and pop culture doesn't always reflect other values as we might, but that's ok, we're here 😊
@@jensenflyfishing do the Jensens have a tik-tok lol
Because it was posted yesterday
@@evanhammond7305 we do have but uh... just couldn't get on with it! 🤣
Been saying this for 10 years lol
Epic video. You guys take it to a totally different level. Love watching the fish and hearing the strategies before you approach. Brilliant stuff. Thanks so much for sharing.
That's great to hear and thank you. This coming wkd we start a new series that dives into what we do, why and how based on the waters we're inspired by, passionate about. This channel will share 25 to 30 minutes of each episode but each episode will be about 1 to 1:15 duration and share our expeditions in full at our patreon page for those interested www.patreon.com/jensenflyfishing 😊🍻
Those fish look so healthy and happy in that creek. A gem of a spot!
One of our favorite places anywhere 😊😍
Excellent video and crazy approaches on those fish. Nice browns for sure!! Thanks for sharing Dave and Amelia!!
Glad you enjoyed this one. You hopefully will really enjoy the new video series starting this coming week as we really get into things on patreon... some amazing fish in the first episode 😊
Just beautiful! Thank you for sharing. 🎣🐟🎣
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
As usual an epic film. Thanks Dave and Amelia. Hope you’re enjoying your time south
We are. It's turning into an intense drought year after severe flooding, but given how our last season in Alberta was the same it's not too much a surprise as they often mirror. Glad you enjoyed this one as well :)
Watching this on weekend in early January is great and depressing at the same time. The markings on those browns are epic.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊 they are gorgeous fish for sure, tho few!
Super quality video. The footage and the fishing as well. 👌
Great to hear. A favorite creek certainly 😊🍻
Amazing footage! great with a cup of coffee this morning..
Perfect combination! We're out van camping so can you send over a coffee? 😊🍻
Love you guys, thanks for the info how to find the big ones
You'll enjoy next week's video as well then 😊 Heaps more on our Patreon channel as well if interested in the how we do it side. www.patreon.com/jensenflyfishing 🍻
Awesome video, love the shots at the beginning especially. Looks like an awesome place to fish
Those are literally all the trout in that little creek. Maybe one or two more but otherwise it's a good reminder of what these gems can actually produce and how long it takes. Gorgeous little spot 😊
You caught that first one right on my grandpas land lol great fishing up there in the summer
that's neat. A few good fish in there - not many, of course, but, fun. I suspect we'll give that creek a rest for a few years as it has become incredibly familiar once again :) There again, one more flood might erase it from the map too, hopefully not.
As always a joy to watch. And I like the educational approach. The sequence 30 minutes in to the video is really great.
That's exactly what we try to share... and what we'll dive into more with this channel moving forward 😊🍻
Easily the best channel for fly fishing for trout out there! Love the amazing footage and information given on how to become better. Been watching it for a while now and definitely makes me better and provides motivation to get out there! Love love love what you guys do. Keep it up.

that water is crazy clear!!! great v id
Thanks! And it's quite incredible water 😍
awesome😎👌
The videos yous make are brilliant…the best out there👍
Glad you enjoy them - we just try to share what we love and how we go about things. 😊🍻
Highly professional production. Thank you - very well done. I love fishing smaller streams, so this video caught my eye. I would love to see more on this kind of topic. One small chalk stream, the Meon, in Hampshire, UK, which I am fortunate to be able to fish, is no more than a couple of rod-lengths wide although has some deep holes, which make wading interesting. That stream has wild fish only, and despite its small size some run to 18 inches. It can be challenging. I have found that wearing dark clothing and using rotten stone to dull the gloss finish on my rod, avoiding flash, help to improve my catch rate.
Sounds like a gem! We're fortunate to be able to poke about often but these waters are really few and far between. They are special to fish. Yours sounds like a good challenge and no doubt the fish are sensitive to about everything with a little pressure. 🍻
Beautiful as usual 👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 😊🍻
Stunning footage and nice hats!
every great angler has 2" of white salt in their cap ;)
@@jensenflyfishing It's true, and only after a few weeks in NZ wearing my old school hat with a neck protection cape and duck bill in front it needed a good dunking in the river. Best designed fishing hat, and I dare yall to wear them! Like a Sherlock Holmes of the rivers.
I hunt deer etc. at about the same speed … see much more and disturb much less! It has served me very well over the years! I fish this way too! Excellent advice!
if you're only focused on broadcast shooting from the hip, you'll get a few random successes. If you want quality and incredible experiences, you slow right down and meet the animal in its habitat and outwit it based on the prior experiences we accumulate. Spot on to your point. Consistency in big browns or deer/elk hunting comes from right that. :)
I've been following since a long time ago, and the quality of your video just increase every time
Very glad to have you on UA-cam !
Continue this way absolutely awesome
Thank you for noticing, for sharing a reply to it and that you enjoy what we do! We're really just stepping into our own on this and the new series just launched this week is going full throttle into what we love :)

glad you loved it! :)
I was fishing a tiny Alberta brown trout stream this summer in high water. I caught what was mostly likely a 24" brown awsome experience. Two or three bends up the river. I was scouting high on the bank when I spotted a high 20s, probably 28" and I spooked him. I was a bit disappointed, so I moved on. On my way back down, I knew I would get another shot at him. I absolutely did I positioned myself where I thought he might be and casted my small streamer and boom the large brown hit instantly, and boy, was I not in position. The large brown ran upstream under a log jam and shook me off under a tree. I have never been so disappointed with myself while fishing. I thought I just pulled a Dave Jensen lol then lost it, lol . But as I look back, I realize that Brown will most likely be in the same place next season, and i will hopefully meet up with him there again. By the end of the day, I got three browns over 20" and lost the beast. Awesome day on home waters that I will not soon forget.
Aw man.. those are the memories! Nothing is more gutting than spooking a seriously good fish and watching it swim/bolt for cover! But the walk out usually offers a follow up shot if we plan it as you did. But the way out chance often goes as you describe too - coming at it from an off angle and things don't quite line up for success. So close! But those are the memories aren’t they??? Thanks for the share 😊🍻
@jensenflyfishing it was something. On this particular stream, as I know you know, 1 fish per day is all I ever hope for. 3 was exceptional
Me and my fishing buddy always say we pulled a Jensen when we do something epic on the river 😂
@@kevinrawding6730 Ha! That's awesome in itself :) Thanks for watching!
Daddi Jenson seems like such a dom
🍑🍆🫐⛓️🗜🛠🗝💰📽👚⛑️🤠🥸💣🦝
Captivating footage . You do so well to fish and film to such a high standard. Any suggestions for avoiding spooking fish in thin water on bright days when the tippet casts a shadow on the stream bed?
Great to hear you enjoyed this one. That question is a big part of our ongoing "Fly Fishing Trout Streams Master-Course" that accompanies our Patreon page as accessed and outlined at our website, www.jensenflyfishing.com To the specific, it is ALL about approach and angles and your ability to lay out a straight line cast at the RIGHT time that respects the trout in its environment. It's literally a lifetime of experience that screams at you to be far more patient than you ever want to be and has far less to do with the diameter of tippet as to do with the full umbrella of how you do what, when, from where, with what. Again, that's part of the Master-Course, if you're interested :)
After a day willow grubbing on a southland stream in 32 degrees I found that very entertaining guys. I was intrigued by Amelia's comment about how she should have watched the dry indicator rather than the fish's mouth as I have bungled many subtle takes doing just that. I suppose it is all about the speed of the fish's approach where the reverse of the rule applies eh?
It's the one amazing thing about sighting fish in fly fishing: what to focus on. Earlier this trip I missed a nymph eat outright on a 7+lb brown that came off the bank and ate a nymph right at me. A large male, he came out and I swear even now his mouth never opened. I watched both eyes focus forward and pec fins flared. The dry never tickled. Suddenly he erupted, thrashing his head left and right with mouth fully opened to shed my nymph. ZERO chance. There are moments that fascinate us in these situations and once so focused one way or another, man is it easy to miss the obvious!
@@jensenflyfishing and you guys pretty much always fish with short responsive droppers too! Quirks in the flow have a lot to answer for too....
@@TimmoMcGinn we vary depth up a lot and vary the fly/weight dynamics up a lot too, dependent upon water types and dynamics. In this water you can't go too deep nor heavy but many other waters will see under-sized or over-sized tungsten on 6" to 4 feet+ droppers. Again, wildly variable. The sexy ones that make the IG videos are shallow and short but that's not the norm, certainly. Esp this year! :)
@@jensenflyfishing speaking of sexy they were all looking up at cicadas in the Canterbury high country yesterday on a bluebird day with an upstream breeze....and no paradise ducks within cooee!
@@TimmoMcGinn I bet they were :) We just came off a frustrating bit where we fished 3 days in a row where we were either the day after or the same day as anglers ahead of us on low population streams. We moved on, naturally. Rejigging the plans and moving ahead soon enough :)
"which one was that?" lol. you guys ever film experiencing water for first time
plenty, have a scroll through the playlists :)
What time of year do you have the most success fishing for browns in these 'Berta Spring creeks.
any time from mid April through early Oct, really.
Do you share locations? Or are these areas too secret? Haha
For this kind of location, no, sorry. Kinda sensitive :)
Birds of prey when I live would destroy a fish feeding like that around my parts. We have a lot of bald eagles, ospreys, red tails, and falcons. You should see when they stock trout in the rivers around me. The birds of prey know the big green truck that the state stocks fish with. The clean out all the rivers.
Somewhat true but we have all those same exact birds around this creek and our home region is wild trout, not stocked. Different regions of the world are interesting by comparison! 😊🍻
what state is this??
Alberta, Canada 🍻
I saw a video from Someone fishing in kamchaika they caught a Thirty Inch
rainbow. That has become my bucket list BUT since I live on a fixed income and live in Southern California it is not likely that I will ever catch one.
I have resigned myself to living my dreams through UA-cam. I LUVthis video. What is the biggest Bow you have caught and is it on video? Can you give a
Link if it is on UA-cam?
Some fine rainbows on video out there but ours just came before we shot video and we don't really target them as much. That said, the one neat video you might enjoy is here: ua-cam.com/video/qsEoWdm2GmY/v-deo.html And the one channel that I bet you'd like is www.youtube.com/@TroutHuntingNZ that specifically targets what you are looking for! :)
what is the name of the orvis bag you are using?
Dave - safe passage angler's day pack. AJ - wp backpack (there's a new one coming to market soon). Hope that helps! 🍻
What do you mean by broadcast searching in the sentence at the end I tried google searching it and nothing came up about it I’ve never heard this term before
What is the time code that you saw that for our reference to give a good reply?
The only thing I would like to address is that weather you don’t realize it or not, that from my point of view after watching your videos is that you’re not giving a lot of video time to your wife, what i see is that she gets to make a cast on two different times then the rest of the video is all you
The funny thing is that you forget who is on the camera! How funny you comment that I get little time in this video yet completely miss the majority of videos from Patagonia where Dave gave way to me most days. Context within a larger umbrella picture is important. Welcome to the channel 😊🍻
Looks like the wooded section of Silver Creek Preserve in Idaho near Hailey
really neat waters these ones :)
