I got a say that of all the short lived/discontinued doll lines we got over the years, Bratzillaz is one of the ones with the biggest wasted potential imo. I said this before on my Tumblr. And it bares repeating here: I feel like Bratzillaz would've been better off playing up the "cute witch" type of magical girl theme (Think anime like Ojamajo Doremi, Sugar Sugar Rune & Mahou Tsukai Precure.) but with a more stylish twist that MGA is known for rather than the spooky monster/horror doll aesthetic that Monster High helped popularized. Not only would it have helped them stand out more. It also would've been a great opportunity to have a magical girl themed fashion doll line that wasn't a licensed property. Especially in the US. I also think it was better off being it's own stand alone franchise rather than as a Bratz spinoff. Since outside of the characters being the quote unquote "witchy cousins of the bratz" it basically has little to do with the Bratz brand.
I like how you said they should’ve made it separate from the Bratz. I can see why they made the relationship in the first place but honestly to me even when I was making this video Bratz never really came to mind. So I’m not really sure if that is a good thing or bad one.
The Bratzillaz animated series on UA-cam was released back in 2012 and then after the start of 2013 the series end. I would have thought Bratzillaz would continued on just like Monster High, Ever After High and D.C. SuperHero Girls but it didn't and it's a shame because I wanted to see brand new episodes from Bratzillaz as well as more new characters too.
As someone who grew up with Monster High at the same time Bratzillaz was out and loved the Bratz movies on Netflix thought it was cool to have something Bratz on store shelves and enjoyed the early webisodes. Even if I didn’t realize it as like a 7 or 8 year old it was cool kind of seeing like a Monster High and Bratz mashup in a way in retrospect.
"Bratzillaz... Bratzillaz... Bratzillaz... Glam Gets Wicked Tonight!" 💫 The song was kinda catchy. Even nowdays, I just have to listen it one time to get it in my head for the whole day! X) I like the concept of Bratzillaz: A school of witchcraft AND fashion had a huge potential. (And as a Harry Potter fan in the 2010 years, it was all I need!). The webisodes were... good. Nothing exceptional but I liked the style and atmosphere. As you said, it's just sad they didn't expand the universe of this magical academy. Some Bratzillaz dolls designs were interesting (I had been tempted by Megana and Jade from the first line back in 2012-2013) but still too shy to exploit their full potential as Monster High did. And no need to buy one doll to notice that the hair quality was as bad as recent Winx Club dolls! Plus, I'm maybe the only one but except for Megana's one, I NEVER thought their pets were cute. So Bratzillaz had a good concept but never managed to shine.
the concept was cool but i wish the names were different and the powers were more interesting. the broken hearts one is cool though because it doesn't just mean romance. it could be grief too
I remember getting Cloetta as a Christmas gift when I was 6. Those were fun times lol. I donated her to Goodwill in the end so I hope she goes to a loving child who will care for her :)
I actually loved how the art work looked-g1 mh’s art gave me the same vibes as lenore (which i adore) the bratzillas give me a general gothic vibe and i really like it- my personal issue tho is their supposed to be related to the main four bratz but like-only sasha’s cousion actually looks like her😭 why are yasmin and jade’s cousins straight out white.. Edit: tbh fright song was prop the only mh song that looked closest to how the dolls look-i feel like mattel lowky gave up since looking at the city ghouls music video, the entire thing looks more like a disney channel song then a mh one
Even the original bratzs was bad at skin tones some Yasmin’s were white and some Sasha’s were Yasmin’s skin especially in the art but I do agree Sasha’s is the only one that actually looks like they could be related
@@frogbubbletea.362 homestly you arent wrong cause i wouldnt even be able to reconize yasmin and sasha in their own art works😭 Here its just weirder to me cause not only are the girls meant to be related but also cause bratz as a whole was always known to be very diverse-yet here its the total oppsite Even mh had a p diverse cast with both cleo and clawdeen and even lagoona being implied to be Aboriginal so its honestly so weird
Jade, Sashabella and Yasmina had different skin tones compared to the other dolls, but they are whitewashed on the music video and art for some reason.
i’m sad that it discontinued because i bought meygana and vampina and they were my favorite characters. i also had so much fun playing the mobile game bratzillaz broom racerz
I remember getting my first bratzillaz for Christmas when I was small. I wanted Jade J adore but I ended up getting meygana. And then I ended up losing her in my room. Years past and I still haven't found her, so I ended up ordering/buying her from mecari lol. But I DIDN'T KNOW they made more bratzillaz 😭😭 man I wish I knew
I actually had the Back to Magic Meygana doll when I was younger, and I really loved her. I never watched the show or seen the commercials, I just saw the Back to Magic dolls at a gift shop I used to go to and I got Meygana. I think I was seven or six when I got the doll, maybe five, I don't really remember all that well honestly. I don't have her anymore though since her arm broke.
not you indirectly coming after Stephanie Meyer for Jasper's power over emotions 😂 this was a great episode! I was always interested in the Bratzillas, so thank you for this breakdown!💜
I'm not very familiar with the dolls since I've only recently discovered it. I was first introduced to it when my mom's friend (who's a doll collector with many shelf contain different limited dolls) gave me one of the doll as a gift. The character I got is Victoria Antique. I fell in love with her design and took care of it since then. I also played with her from time to time with my monster high dolls.
I just got a Yasmina Clairvoya who is missing her hat and cape - I didn't know about the budget versions/that she might have originally never had the hat! Her hair is a mess too but it's such a lovely colour and I'm going to see what I can do with fabric softener. Also, I had never seen the witchy princesses before and now I really want Carolina. In my opinion the reason they went the route they did with the powers was because something like 'mending broken hearts' would be easy for kids to incorporate into more 'social' and mundane play scenarios/stories. (But then they made one who controlled the weather, which just makes everyone else's powers look lame...)
Tbh the thing with some of the powers sucking is because the characters wouldn't use it for bad because it's a kids show but like imagine how easy it would be to manipulate someone whose heart you've fixed, or how you'd be able to calm anyone down no matter if you did something horrible, like by twisting the powers into a darker narrative we could see how powerful some of the are (also that jade's cousin could literally save lives as it was cientifically proved that in fact a person can die of a "broken heart" or enormous emotional distress due to a small bien breaking and changing the shape of the heart altering the blood flow in a way that over the course of time would be fatal. I'm not making this up look it up
I think it’s time they get a proper reboot but for collectors. Higher quality gorgeous designs. Final products on the level of the prototypes. We know Mga can do it after seeing dolls like the storm twins. They just need to get a good young designer in there. Someone who knows timeless trends.

remembered the time i got bratzillaz when i was a kid and cried over it because someone accidentally sat on it and broke its body. 8 years have passed and im still crying over it
I have the Cloetta doll. I used to have her as a kid, but ended up giving her away. I decided to buy her again second hand on eBay, and I thought her hair just needed a good washing. Well… Even after washing her hair, it was still kinda frizzy. Her joints are also a little loose and she’s kinda wobbly. I didn’t recognize those flaws as a kid, but I definitely recognize them now as an adult. I still like her tho. The glass eyes are really nice, and I like how the dolls are articulated, versus the OG Bratz where they’re not articulated.
The only thing I remember about that toyline was on the Argos catalogue. The premise was interesting but it required to have something to stand out so it wasn't a copy of other pre-existing toylines. Bratzillaz sure had a potential but oh well. I have been thinking about other powers witches could have such as: *Dream manipulation *Disguise as a shadow *Create and manipulate plants *Ice powers *Electricity manipulation
I grew up with the OG bratz and My Scenes I was older when Monster High and Bratzillaz where a thing so not until 3 years ago that I started collecting Bratz is that I knew of their existence.
In regards to their mundane powers it was shown/implied (in the cartoon at the very least) that the terms used were pretty vague. While some were on point, like Yasmina's clairvoyance, others had an extension to their powers (ex. Meygana could make your "dreams take flight", i.e a very light form of wish granting, Jade had love-based powers as opposed to just healing broken hearts). The cartoon also has an unaired episode...Well sorta. Fashion Bites, to my knowledge, isn't available on full on English, that is the ending is cut off.
I think powers like calming and heart affective ones are smart. Like for manipulation you could do Whatever you want and never get in trouble as long as you can calm people
