Honestly the fact that metal slug tactics lives id the best news I've heard all year. It was first shown in a Nintendo direct like three years ago then nothing. No more videos or news on it. I figured it was cancelled.
Square is doing right here. Making a landmark game OT1 being available multi-platform after all these years & with a great priced bundle. As well as great, free update for OT2. They really don't deserve the sh*t been through this year. Meanwhile, Bamco has Tomizawa do his thing: being a figurehead and being vague as possible when concerning Tales. The series deserves a lot better than this.
I think they’re hoping everyone just goes for the bundle since $60 for the original OT is a bit insane. Still, glad more people get to experience them! OT2 in particular is wonderful.
Thank you for these updates David - it's always a great start to the day for me when I flick on one of your news videos in the morning when I start dev work.
I was craving Yakuza yesterday so I just jumped back in.. Very successfully I might add.. Haven’t really focused on the Octopath series yet but I did start both.. Still obsessed with Trails and those two VanillaWare titles Unicorn Overlord & 13 Sentinels.. If i can make it through those as well as my mainline FF backlog I’ll more than likely go back to Tales
I've been wondering when the Tribe Nine game was gonna come out - there's been an anime of it for years. In the anime, it's not "deadly games", but one game specifically: EXTREME BASEBALL, where you can use any equipment you want, and the baseball field and be as large as you want. It's this dystopian "The Warriors"-like future where "tribes" settle disputes with said Extreme Baseball games. As an anime, it was a bit too wild for me, but I think as an RPG it might be more suited to my tastes.
Jason Griffith is one of the former voices of Sonic. He played him in Sonic X. He also Shadow around the same time. He was basically playing Sonic am Shadow in eveu game up until Sonic Unleashed. I hope you liked the extra content.
Yeah, I was a little bummed about Tales Fes. Pre-2020, it was often (though not always) where new games got announced (like Berseria). Also I miss the little Koyasu (Jade) and Onosaka (Zelos) skits from way back when. I worry about the Tales series, even with Arise being such a hit, but here’s hoping they’ll have something big in 2025 for the anniversary. I’m kind of excited about RPG Maker WITH and looking forward to messing around with it. Looking forward to playing Trails into Daybreak! 2024 is already an amazing year for JRPGs! Thanks as always for the news, David!
Turned on my PC just this morning and immediately was shown that Octopath bundle via the Xbox Game Pass. Find that you have Agitha from Octopath II right there as the eyecatch for New RPG News, and you're reporting on it! I find that funny. I've been waiting for Metal Slug Tactics. My husband and I are big fans. For one convention, we did a Metal Slug couple's cosplay! He was Tarma, and I was Fio! So hearing that it's not been abandoned and that it's actually coming out has made us very happy.
i feel so weird saying this but, im probably the outlier here. when it comes to tactics games, graphics are far from my first priority, and the fact they mentioned rogue like there, makes me really get cold feet on the whole thing. we barely know anything, and lets not forget how atrocious the last metal slug was. gonna wait to see how it actually plays before praising it.
So what 90s class is Square Enix releasing? That was one of the main reasons I watched this but the Square Enix section was all about Saga Emerald Beyond and Octopath Traveler II. I love both games but neither is a 90s classic. I have a long, long list of 90s Square Enix games I would love to see get the remaster treatment so I was hoping for something from that list to be coming.
i think its a pontuation thing. he was probably talking about metal slug tactics. which is a new game, but from a franchise that has basically been dead since the 90's.
@@marcosdheleno Maybe. Though really more of the series came out in the 2000s then the 90s. I think 3 came out in 2000 which means five of the seven main series games were post-90s and most of the spinoff games I know of as well.
Hi David! I actually caught the premiere for a change. Yay! Hopefully we'll get some Decapolice news soon - really looking forward to that one. Have a blessed day!
I started with Yakuza 0. I was always aware of the series since the first released on PS2, but I didn't vibe with the way it looked. But when I saw someone play 0, it hooked me, and I loved just running around and getting into random fights.
Thanks for reminding me of the Trails through Daybreak demo David. I had completely forgotten about it so im going to hop on that today. Trails has become one of my favorite RPG series next to Dragon Quest, Tales, and Final Fantasy due to the massive world they have built with interconnected storylines. They have inspired me to write my own fantasy novel which I also plan to turn into an RPG. I have no idea how ill go about doing that but ive got the vision in my mind... 😂😅
Jason Griffth was arguably the most known VA for Sonic during the 4kids Sonic X run and did the role from Shadow the Edgehog's game all the way to Sonic and the Black Knight. There was massive criticism for his replacement in Sonic Colors for good reason, and the new guy was so bad (outside recent Frontiers) that they even got a new actor just for the movies who also did a better job lol.
Played the new Trails game a couple months ago with fan translation since Nippon Ichi lets you buy the game before they're even done translating it; wouldn't exactly call myself a big Trails fan but this game is probably my favorite "premium/paid" game in a long time.
Yeah, I preordered Trails through Daybreak Limited Edition on PS5, pretty excited for it. Unfortunately, I am way behind in playing the whole series and am still way back in Trails from Zero still, so I got a ways to go before I can actually play it. x.x
I have to see if my friend still has Amazon Prime Video (or whatever it's called), because I'd definitely watch a Yakuza TV series. I'm actually in the middle of a marathon right now, and I just completed 3 tonight, secret boss and all, so I'm about halfway. Also finally got my Steam save converted over and ready for New Game + on my GOG copy of Ichiban's first adventure, so pretty excited to get to that... probably this autumn; some of these games are really long!
This video reminds me that i should go back to Octopath 1 at some point since i did stop playing it after the initial inner ring of exploration, less due to boredom and more that i wanted to play other things before sinking a hundred hours into it that week. Though i have been playing through one of the voice of cards games and its been quite fantastic as a simple turn based rpg game that feels more like Etrian Odyssey exploring without the map making. Mechanics are just nice and the battles aren't too difficult so far with the right cards on hand.
WITH means it’s networked so you can share your games and assets and other people can play yours. It was driving me crazy so I researched what the heck “with” meant.
Sure hope those Emerald beyond Asia versions do actually get published. For some reason PA’s listings say that they haven’t been published but are expected to ship mid-July. 🤷♂️

I am so excited for the Like A Dragon Yakuza TV show! That will be mu highlight of the TV year I'm sure! I like the look of the Metal Slug Tactics! Anyone know if there'll be a physical edition for it? 😊
It sounds like the series is going to follow the story of the first Yakuza game (later remade as Yakuza Kiwami). As a long-time fan, i hust have to wonder if the show is going to only strictly follow the main story? Aka, the serious plot? The fun of the Yakuza series is how it balances the serious drama with the goofy side stories, like accidently getting hired to voice act I to a Yaoi, misunderstanding a woman trying to learn Japanese and thinking she needs a Pizza and not a Visa, or Pocket Circuit Fighter.
Riven is kind of a cool experience if you're in the right mood for it. It definitely won't appeal to a lot of people these days though, but I'm glad it got the same remake treatment that Myst got. Especially since I think this started off as a fan project that was taken on by the studio.
@@marcosdheleno Yeah, but it's understandable with how short attention span people are these days. It's definitely an experience though and I'm glad that it's finally getting a remake. I got a bit caught by surprise though that it's coming out this month.

I'd gladly buy them in a heartbeat. Now they just need to bring Star Ocean 2nd Story R to Xbox along with a plethora of other titles.
The Riven remake looks pretty nice, its been a while since I played, but seems like theres some new locations, maybe this time around I'll understand how the final puzzle work lol
What I want from Tales is either a remake of Tales of Phantasia or an English localized collection of the PS2 version of Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny 2 (the REAL Tales of Destiny 2).
As a PC gamer, I had no idea Octopath 1 wasn't on PS/Xbox consoles. That's utterly mind-boggling. SE has been a shitshow in management the past 15 years but it seems the past few months they've actually started to make some good choices and listen. Now it's time to bring Final Fantasy back to its glory years: turn-based combat! Parties! Lovable characters! Well thought-out stories! Remember what brought you to the dance in the first place!
Your videos are a joy! What are you playing currently? I'm scratching my way toward the platinum trophy in Eiyuden Chronicle:Hundred Heroes which is maybe my favorite game of the year.
I have been at the point where 99% of video games, I will play only once. This has been the case for 10 years for me so physical releases dont matter anymore. I have yet to find a game with replay-ability for me in the past 10 years aside the FromSoftware games.
David, is there any old RPG, from the NES/SNES era that you'd compare Octopath Traveler games to? I've always been curious about them and I do have GamePass. You and I are of similar ages and grew up playing a lot of the same games, so i generally trust your opinion.
they literaly remade live a live in the same way. octopath is basically a spiritual successor to it. from day 1, when the whole multiple characters story that join later came out, people made the connection. outside of that, i can only think of the wild arms series. which also had that gimmick. but that's psx and later ps2 era.
sorry if you thought riven was an rpg. it's one of the most influential point and click games of all time. its to the point there's argument to which had a bigger influence in the industry, riven or its predecessor, myst. you are basically sent to an island to unravel the mysteries of what happened. it had massive presentation for the era. it was one of the most visually impressive games, due to the absurd amount of cgi. now i get not liking it, there are many games i couldnt care about. but understand that, it WAS a juggernaught back in the day. it just wasnt a rpg.
17:33 Uh-uh. There’s no one in Japan named“take” like “take something” Here’s a general rule: if you would use a long vowel in English, use a short vowel sound instead. It’s not a universal rule, but it will do wonders for your pronunciation.
This may be a bit pedantic or too hung up on semantics, but I've always assumed "strategy" RPGs and "tactical" RPGs were two different things. By which I mean that I thought strategy was controlling a large unit in combat while tactics meant giving orders to single, specific units. I missed my chance for the Daybreak Collector's Edition on PS5 and will now forever live in shame.
14:00 Ugh Myst. I absofreakinglutely hated that game. And apparently there's five games in the series. At least I also had neverwinter nights, baldur's gate, diablo, warcraft, etc...
the myst games are amazing man, story driven puzzle exploration games, i know its not your cup of tea, but dave, myst has a very big following, its how the puzzle exploration story games got started these games are hallmarks
😂😂😂😂 Riven is amazing dude. “IT WAS THE MOST BORING GAME EVAAAAR…. But I only played it like an hour…” dude… you didn’t even start the game 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m assuming you’re not a fan of other “walking simulators” like What Remains of Edith Finch and whatnot?
That sounds sensible, but a lot of people also don't bother with New Game+. They just play the game casually, and once they're done, they're done. I don't know what the percentage of people that finish the MQ is, but I'm betting it's a lot closer to 50% than it is 100.

I rather read good rpg game articles sometimes its great hearing DavidVinc once in while.
Here’s hoping Microsoft does something amazing with their RPGs. I love Lost Odyssey .
I have been at the point where 99% of video games, I will play only once. This has been the case for 10 years for me so physical releases dont matter anymore. I have yet to find a game with replay-ability for me in the past 10 years aside the FromSoftware games.
U said it was a landmark game 😂😂 I laughed out loud literally 🎉
Scrolling through the guest list... *screeeeeeech* & slams on brakes. "Holy crap he's hot!" 🤣 💀
Thanks for being positive, subbed!
Sadly I live in Japan...I would love to meet you and John Riggs!
I was really hoping we’d see Lost Odyssey on the Xbox showcase as I’ve never played it but it wasn’t there 😢
I get the feeling David doesn't know what point and click adventure games are xD
I'm in Quebec, Canada, David. Too far to meet you. :( But I Hope you have fun with the event. Have a nice weekend!
Why'd they change Rean's name to Van Arkride in the new Trails game?
Praying for a physical copy of metal slugs tactics on switch
Nice video. Share your workout routine with us lol
Caught you being thirsty! 😂 Don't worry, I'm with you. Total hottie. Hope you got to say "Hi". Also, I love your shirt!
Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤
Tales has ALOT of trapped games, that would be incredible remakes or ports. Tales of destiny ps2 edition would be a smash hit
Tales of the abyss is great
I have both duologies on ps3 Symphonia & Xillia.. Vesperia on Switch.. And, Beseria, Zesteria and Arise on ps4.. Kinda proud of that collection
David, is there any old RPG, from the NES/SNES era that you'd compare Octopath Traveler games to? I've always been curious about them and I do have GamePass.
You and I are of similar ages and grew up playing a lot of the same games, so i generally trust your opinion.
Romancing SaGa 1 is what you are looking for.
Yeah either the saga games or live a live would kind of compare. But Octopath is better
they literaly remade live a live in the same way.
octopath is basically a spiritual successor to it. from day 1, when the whole multiple characters story that join later came out, people made the connection. outside of that, i can only think of the wild arms series. which also had that gimmick. but that's psx and later ps2 era.
David causally over here ignoring the fact that holy fuck he is also hot and so am I 😂❤🎉😮😊
Sigh...I'd love to attend and meet you! Unfortunately, it's about 2600 miles west of me. Have fun and tell us all about it! 🥰😭
sorry if you thought riven was an rpg. it's one of the most influential point and click games of all time.
its to the point there's argument to which had a bigger influence in the industry, riven or its predecessor, myst.
you are basically sent to an island to unravel the mysteries of what happened. it had massive presentation for the era. it was one of the most visually impressive games, due to the absurd amount of cgi.
now i get not liking it, there are many games i couldnt care about.
but understand that, it WAS a juggernaught back in the day. it just wasnt a rpg.
17:33 Uh-uh. There’s no one in Japan named“take” like “take something”
Here’s a general rule: if you would use a long vowel in English, use a short vowel sound instead. It’s not a universal rule, but it will do wonders for your pronunciation.
I would trade all of my physical games for a FF 6 Remake :S
If it's anything like FF7 "Remake", no thanks 🤮
"Available on XBox Game Pass until January 2026"....then they'll complain about the low sales on XBox........
so many games i want releasing this summer/fall, my wallet won't survive😅
Have a great time at the expo!
Thank you, I will!!
This may be a bit pedantic or too hung up on semantics, but I've always assumed "strategy" RPGs and "tactical" RPGs were two different things.
By which I mean that I thought strategy was controlling a large unit in combat while tactics meant giving orders to single, specific units.
I missed my chance for the Daybreak Collector's Edition on PS5 and will now forever live in shame.
nah imma skip trails for now
kinda full after playing coldsteel and reverie
Next is Shin megaten 5
I saw your latest pic about eating u really csn swallow anything lol
Going by your physique I’m surprised you don’t have a UA-cam channel dedicated to working out 🏋️
14:00 Ugh Myst. I absofreakinglutely hated that game. And apparently there's five games in the series. At least I also had neverwinter nights, baldur's gate, diablo, warcraft, etc...
I need tales of destiny remastered in my life!
You and me both!
riven in vr, im there, gimme gimme gimme
the myst games are amazing man, story driven puzzle exploration games, i know its not your cup of tea, but dave, myst has a very big following, its how the puzzle exploration story games got started these games are hallmarks
paying $60 for a pixel art game is too expensive
Just started Octopath traveler 2 on Switch!
Awesome, you’ll love it!!
I LOVE Riven, but I wouldn’t call it an RPG. It’s definitely a puzzle game, and an obtuse one at that! I’m not offended you called it boring! 😂
octopath 1 is a great game but releasing a port at full price! so many years after it was first released kinda sucks.
Hey David I c u buffed up even more
Lol 😂 your rants are funny 🤣
Tales of graces please!!!
I love you but you trippin', my man. Riven is amazing
We need soooo many Tales remasters it's not even funny.
Yeah, it is good Octopath 1 finally came to PS5. It should have been there from the start, but it is NOT worth $60. Nor will it EVER be.
😂😂😂😂 Riven is amazing dude. “IT WAS THE MOST BORING GAME EVAAAAR…. But I only played it like an hour…” dude… you didn’t even start the game 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m assuming you’re not a fan of other “walking simulators” like What Remains of Edith Finch and whatnot?
so the 90s classic is riven, how great...
😊
Daybreak CE is kinda disappointing to me compared to the other games, still got it but meh
I don’t think anybody should buy another yakuza after them making things like new game + dlc in the last .
That sounds sensible, but a lot of people also don't bother with New Game+. They just play the game casually, and once they're done, they're done. I don't know what the percentage of people that finish the MQ is, but I'm betting it's a lot closer to 50% than it is 100.
