Lil dicky was in the advertising business before music. He was always way more invested in tv, explaining why his show is so much better. It’s his true calling.
He should stick to it. _Exclusively._
AGREED. STICK WITH THAT.
His show is better? 😂
His actual rapping is far superior to 99% of others. Listen to "Russell Westbrook on a Farm" or "Make Belief"
@@kalebtlt1630 if you think Lil Dicky’s rapping is better than “99% of others” then you must only listen to Lil Dicky
They say to not judge a book by its cover, but if you have an album called *Penith* by *Lil Dicky* with the cover being *a grown man in his underwear on a cross like Jesus* then wtf do u expect me to do with that.

i really dont get this take, in the context of the show it was a good funny song, and its only a bad listening experience if you have acoustic sense of humor or you expecting a "mona lisa" type of storytelling

There will not be a worse track this year.
"I'm the next Kanye West"- bro ain't even the next Kanye East.

ok story time, i have a coworker who’s a fan of lil dicky and he really wanted to show me jail part 1 because he thought it was hilarious. so i had to sit through all 9 minutes of that song with nothing but expressions of torture and sadness on my face and then he had the audacity to ask me if i was fucking with it afterwards. that song is pure hell
I’m so sorry

I'd just say "I'm just gonna let you enjoy the music man." If he gets salty about your honest opinion I suggest explaining that if you gave it an honest shot then you have every right to say how you feel.
I hope to God he doesn't get salty about your honest opinion if he ever hears it. Anyone giving an honest shot doesn't deserve to be labeled as a hater.
I’m honestly just unhappy that Lil Dicky is making bad music successfully
He seems like a nice guy tbh, happy for his success
Yeah. I don’t think he’s a horrible person, no need to hate on bro’s swag

And you realize youre playin into it.. right?
That jail song is just baffling. Its him going "male r@pe ahahuhuhuahauauhauahaua" for 9 damn minutes. And its so grossly detailed for what reason ???
i was so creeped out, like the way he went into detail on it is so distasteful. like taking the usual creepiness he gives off when its about sexual subjects and making it even worse somehow. maybe it could have been interesting if it was clearly trying to be a character study but ig he was trying to be funny? im having a hard time excusing the existence of this song
I read that as “male rape mwuahahahaha” and found it infinitely funnier than the entire album.
fr, i thought we left that humor in the 2010s, at the very least for mainstream artists. when i hear ppl still make “jokes” like that i just think “where have u been? this isn’t considered funny by anyone anymore”
Yeah I just thought his music sucked, but dude is also so fucking weird...
This is proof we are no where near improving our prison system in America 🙃

HOW IS JAIL EVEN A REAL SONG
Same with the complete last half of this album.
This is not made by/for humans
It feels like 9 minutes of somebody over explaining a joke
@@TheSanndwichh
I swear to GOD when someone overexplains a joke, it's akin to taking a whimsical, light-hearted moment and dissecting it with a magnifying glass until all its charm is lost in a sea of unnecessary details. Imagine you're at a dinner party, and someone tells a witty anecdote that's met with laughter and amusement. It's like a delicate bubble of mirth floating in the air. But then, someone else, perhaps feeling the need to assert their own cleverness, decides to dissect this bubble with an analytical scalpel, probing into every nuance and subtlety until the laughter dissipates like air escaping a punctured balloon.
Firstly, there's a sense of anticipation as the overexplainer gears up to unravel the joke. It's like watching someone tiptoe precariously across a tightrope, uncertain of where they'll land. Then comes the deluge of unnecessary information, drowning the simplicity of the joke in a torrent of verbosity. Each detail piled upon the next feels like adding unnecessary layers to a perfectly baked cake, leaving it overly dense and devoid of the lightness it once possessed.
As the overexplanation continues, there's a growing discomfort akin to watching a car crash in slow motion. You can't help but cringe as the humor is stretched thin, akin to tugging at a rubber band until it snaps. The initial amusement gives way to a sense of awkwardness, like being stuck in an elevator with someone who won't stop talking about their stamp collection.
Furthermore, there's a palpable shift in the energy of the room as the overexplainer drones on, like a gust of wind snuffing out a candle flame. The once lively atmosphere becomes stifled, suffocated under the weight of unnecessary exposition. It's as if a playful dance has been replaced by a tedious lecture, leaving everyone longing for the spontaneity that has been lost in the sea of overelaboration.
Moreover, there's a sense of frustration that builds with each drawn-out explanation, like trying to untangle a knot that only seems to tighten with each tug. You can almost feel the collective eye-rolling as the overexplainer digs themselves deeper into a pit of verbosity, oblivious to the diminishing returns of their efforts.
Eventually, what was once a moment of levity becomes a test of endurance, like trudging through quicksand in search of solid ground. The laughter, if any remains, feels forced, like a feeble attempt to salvage what little humor remains amidst the wreckage of overexplanation.
In the aftermath, there's a lingering sense of disappointment, like biting into a promising-looking pastry only to find it stale and flavorless. The magic of the original joke has been tarnished, its sparkle dulled by the relentless onslaught of unnecessary elaboration.
In conclusion, when someone overexplains a joke, they rob it of its vitality, leaving behind a hollow shell of what once was. It's a lesson in the delicate balance between wit and verbosity, a reminder that sometimes less is indeed more when it comes to humor.
@@vau_stI know people say this about any longer-than-normal comment, but why did you write an actual essay format and all
There should be an actual law against making a song that unfunny.
When I learned that Lil Dicky worked in advertising before he became a rapper, everything about him suddenly made complete sense.
He’s an advertisement rapper.
He has literally said multiple times he used rap to get bigger and eventually lead into a tv show or comedy.. You arent saying anything he hasnt said. lol.

He doesnt really act tho he just plays as himself in a strangely unironic way and also not in a reality tv way so its just… boring. Its not real or fake its just awkward.

Purple rain clears most albums, let alone soundtracks. Bringing it up to say this should be able to stand on its own like that album does is very extreme yes.
There are many soundtracks that lose their luster without having consumed the original product its soundtracking. Most people dont just listen to soundtracks unless its from a thing theyve watched or already enjoy. Its for the fans not random listeners who dont even like the artist making it to begin with

Watching rap reactors on UA-cam gas this up is so god damn funny.
I mean, that implies it's more likely the album is good, not that everyone has bad taste except brad
@yan_dj ye. Brad taste mostly has bad taste. Hence, the name Brad taste
@@yan_djI mean, I think it’s less important whether someone says an album is “good” or “bad”, and more important that you understand why they came to the conclusion that they did. Something that’s a positive for some people can be a negative for others. Dicky is one of those guys where his lyrics are what some would call “corny” as a bad thing but others would call “goofy” as a good thing. He’s just really not for everybody, and that isn’t an indication that he’s a high class act or anything, just that he’s divisive.
Personally, I used to like him when I was a college freshman nearly a decade ago, but I feel like I’ve outgrown him with age. I think a lot of people have had that experience with Dicky.

The Jail bonus track is Lil Dickys Watpad fanfic.
When are we getting Jail (Part 2)?? 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jail was really funny to me in the context of the show where it takes up an entire episode and has the visuals to go along with it. But listening to it on its own is just weird
Without the music video, it feels kinda empty. Really creatively written song in my opinion
the core joke is horrible
Jail is him doing Joyner Lucas but so so so much worse.
EDIT:
Jail is somehow Happy Ending but so so so so so much worse.
The user rating has since fallen to an average of 8/100
i love when Brad summons his clone from the future and allows it to sing along to the music. So Wholesome! 😊
Wow that first bonus track was fire like a oil spill catching on fire 🔥
I watched my grandpa say Penith!
Jail is probably the worst song i've heard in a while
This is indeed one of The Albums of 2024. It was created and produced and had some lyrics written on it, and most of all, It was created by Lil Dicky.
So true, Elli.
This is unfunnier than the album
it feels as if he's shoveling needles into my ears and then as the album goes on he starts using a wheelbarrow
Well, that was the worst thing ever. And I watched the entire three-hour Onion Son album stream as it was happening. I can feel my soul decaying at the thought of either release.
When Jail played I legit forgot I was watching a Brad video
This is how I discovered Run the Jewels (no I don't know a thing about rap.) But I wanted to say thank you, because these guys are really good.
"henny is disgusting, how do people drink that"
you do not drink henny to enjoy it, you drink henny to feel it...
Henny x.o is pretty good. Regular henny is def to feel it
I slammed my Penith in the car door
My cousin is named Kareem Abdul I feel personally attacked by Dave 😭😭
I’ll preface this by saying I’m a big fan of Brad and I knew he wouldn’t like it. I respect it. But personally I really like Lil Dicky, love DAVE, and really like the album. Obviously, a lot of it makes more sense in the context of the show (especially Jail), but I just thought I’d give my two cents and say I’m glad I enjoy it as much as I do. All love Brad.
I lost it at the B U S S Y part😭
“This song was a slight improvement… red headphones”
I'm not gonna defend the quality of music to this album, because yeah, it's pretty bad. But I will defend it in SOME WAY. The way this album works, or really doesn't work is that it's completely supplemental to the show. It needs the show to even be listenable. I know that sounds bad, and it is, but it also means that you're losing context when you're simply listening to the music by itself. Take for example the Jail part 1 song. There is an entire literal episode that revolves around the song and what him making it means from a character perspective. Taken out of context it's just... horrible. But in context, it actually works, weirdly enough.
That is completely fair, honestly. Especially since it literally has (The DAVE Soundtrack) in the album title.
That said, it’s still trash. If I watched a show with this as the soundtrack, even if it’s tied to the events of the episode, I feel like I would just turn it off and watch something else.
Shouldn't have put it on a standalone album
sadly, lil dicky does not go hard.
