NERF has done the unthinkable: entering a market that already exists with their own compatible product. After making something like 3 new types of projectile over the past 3 years, they're throwing their hat into the Gel Ball Blaster ring with the NERF Pro Gelfire Mythic blaster: a select-fire 800 Round hopper-fed compact SMG Gel Ball Blaster with a rechargeable battery and stunning looks. While there's a lot on this blaster that is absolutely amazing, NERF Gel Fire doesn't exist in a vacuum: there's a lot of competition out there... and the Mythic has a lot of room for improvement. At an $80 MSRP, it's a very tough sell despite how beautiful it is.

What do you expect from a company that keeps making Princess Celestia pink in their official toys?
I hope Hasbro sees this line as an opportunity to colaborate with Nintendo into making Splatoon blasters replicas, especialy now that Splatoon 3 came out. And because Splatoon weapons don't look like real guns so they don't have to make their proportions wierder and most gel ball blasters are easy to make them electric, the blasters would stay true to their video game inspirations. I can really see Hasbro's wallet benefit from a colaboration like this one.
This actually sounds not too bad. Not sure if other countries have policies on Gel Blasters, though.

One use for the Rival rails on the blaster: Hyper canisters!
...or any canister or paintball pod you can manage to jank on there. The lower one on the thumbhole seems genuinely useful for that.
You can assume that's a thing that will be on shelves soon when they start selling the ammo separately. That's something currently missing from the line as far as I know.
Well using a hyper canister to store the gels isnt a bad idea, but what do i do with the hyper rounds if i did that...

This. The grip, with the 2S Lipo setup and potentially the control box could be used to make a simple flywheeler that's select fire. I'm unsure if I want to kill my Mythic, but I definitely want to just slap a magwell and flywheels on the front of it, throw a Rev trigger into the grip, and have a select fire PDW with an extendable stock that can do around 130-150 FPS with 2S Motors.

Want people don’t understand is Hasbro doesn’t WANT to make a hint grade blaster. They are perfectly content with making the subpar blasters and selling them to kids. Then taking those same internals and putting the in a different shell and selling them to adults as replicas.

I picked one of these up to try and have been playing with it today. I know cheaper versions exist, and I was pretty sure an initial nerf brand product wouldn't be a high value proposition. That said, I've been having a lot of fun. The blaster feels nice in hand and it's been a great introduction to gel ball. I never use my full auto flywheel nerf blasters because loading and cleanup take forever. This is the full auto experience I wish I had with nerf. My current stance is foam darts for single shot sniping, gel ball for full auto.
Fair enough. If you're not concerned with Budget and don't care about Performance, it's definitely solid like I said; but most people care about those two things above all other. It doesn't change the fact there are cheaper, better performing options out there.
@@WalcomS7 it has the build quality I would expect for $80. Would it have been nice to be $20 cheaper? Of course. The performance, although could be higher, was enough to put dents in the back of my garage door. I think for the same reasons that some people want low power springs or stock-class nerf games, 130 fps is a decent middle ground. I'm not going to convince any of my friends to let me shoot them with a 250 fps gel blaster. I don't think the gel fire is omg amazing, but I think it hits the marks it was aiming for and was overall a pretty good execution. Just my take on it. I will probably pick up some other gel blasters to have some variety.

Great review Walcom. I think the reason the fps is so low is because anything above 150/175 can leave welts. So at that point, you may aswell just buy an aisoft gun, and hasbro most likely want to distance themselves from airsoft as much as possible. If they did shoot at the 200-250 FPS base standard of other gel blasters it would likely tint the view that many people have of Nerf. That being that Nerf brand blasters are pretty darn safe projectile toys, even the rival line. After all, Gel blasters are closer to airsoft than Foam dart Blasters, if Hasbro were to wonder any further, magazines, high FPS, they would only be one step away from airsoft.
As an Australian its good to see gel gunning to get somemore coverage in other places.
that's one thing, but its another if we can actually get all other states to un ban it, really wan to try it out, but the state i live in deem it illegal

Why ?? In beitish so not a stranger ro strict gun law but in uk the law on replicas gubs like air aoft and gell guns is that it just needs to be colorful not the same color as the real gun

The problem is gel blasters belong to an entire different hobby, it's not even foam flinging anymore. You have to use them on specialized fields, not in household or backyard like most nerf blasters

I've tried out a few gel blasters. I hope that Nerf pro gel blaster lines include blasters with n-strike barrel lugs so it can be cross compatible with nerf blasters along with their own unique attachments. That's the one thing I want.
The even bigger worry here is gelball blasters are not really legal everywhere. Here in the US NY is cracking down on these an saw somewhere they’re being classified as firearms. Australia has something similar going on an those are just right off the top of my head.
Nerf why couldn’t you have made a short dart pulse rifle with lipo & counter or heck a short dart Nstrike rampage? Just do not see this going anywhere for very long.
They will eventually target dart blasters aswell. These places genuinely hate their own people.
This blaster be heavily regulated, and at least for one state that I live in Australia, banned. Gel ball unfortunately here takes on airsoft, which is frowned upon by our government and I be damn sure it won’t come out here without a hell of a lost cause fight

This entire 2 years has just been a spit in the face to the community, we wanted hobby grade dart blasters, they give us ultra, we wanted to see more from the rival line, we get hyper. Everyone was hyped about elite 2.0, and we get bacically the equivelent of alpha strike 2.0, we wanted a short dart line, and we get this. Need i say more? Hasbro dosent care about the section of the community that is actually dedicated, and surly dosent care about the modders. But yet through all that the community has stayed strong, im sure someones going to see the bright side of this thing and make something amazing out of it, thats whats so awesome about our hobby. At least they gave us a little glimmer of hope with the Moto Blitz and the Trailblazer, although that glimmer has bacically diminished now, who knows maybe they will redeem them selves in the future. Stay strong guys, and keep on flinging foam.
I'd gut the gel ball internals, stick a Talon magwell on the side a la Raider or Rampage, add proper flywheels, and turn it into a compact SMG for short darts...
And then I remember the Worker Phoenix exists.
I suppose this is an example of "slap your brand on a new line and it *should* sell," even if competitors are in reality far ahead.
Also, if they decide to continue the line, hopefully Nerf doesn't cap the gelballs' FPS to where it is right now, and instead actually make higher FPS blasters for the line in the future.
Here in Australia we only have gel blasters in 2 states, one of which you need to have them registered as firearms.
But a cheap Gen 8 shoots at 250+ out the box for $100-$150AUD
Can spend heaps more to get something shooting 330+ and reasonably straight for 25m

Looks good for a dual wielded half dart side mag fed blaster. I imagine this as a weapon from Goldeneye Rogue Agent.
The rounds take a while to load up but paintballs take long too and require PERFECT environmental conditions, lest they turn into useless marbles. 2s lipo is nice and the shell is good to put a paintball marker in since we're on about paintball.
Now how do we put half dart mags into this?

I'm pretty sure this is how Nerf is gonna make up all of the money they lost from not being able to sell Rival in Australia.
Gel blasters are all illegal here except in Queensland, and if they were I would 100% not buy one of these.

First off, gel blasters are banned in most of Australia. Secondly, even if they are not banned, there are better and cheaper alternatives out there, no reason to buy nerf gel

Hey man! Thanks for putting up this video, total newbie here but really wanting to get into the gel ball blasters world. Trying to find a good combo of cool looking, glow in the dark and cheap so I can convince my friends to buy them 😅.
One question, could it be that the Nerf blasters are low FPS for children? I'm a father of 2 girls and playing with foam darts I get frequent complaints about how the darts "hurt", so that's one aspect I need to be careful with too :P. Do these balls hit hard for kids?

Hey walcom last Thursday I just inboxes nerf pro gelfire and it was unreal!!! ABSOLUTELY NERFTASTIC!!!
The fact that this uses an actual LiPo battery makes me think that Hasbro might release a replacement battery for this. With any luck, one of these batteries might be able to power some upgraded motors used in the hobby
It's 2S, I'm unsure of the C rating but Valkyries or Meishel 2.0s at the bare minimum theoretically work.

As a airsofter you learn something very important. Sight just for looks, monke just point and shoot. That's it, same goes for gelsoft as far as I know. Although with airsoft you can build cqb loadouts that are insanely accurate wich is why indoor airsofters guns are usually decked out, whereas in the outdoor fields there's to many variables to be accurate. This is from the uk though so our fps limits basically makes is only being able to fire in close quarters unlike everyone else haha
Thats why that is the only gel blaster that dosen't write their fps on their products. Thank you i couldn't find this anywhere online. Glad i went with the splatrball srb400 sub. It leaves bruises 😈🤣

You know, Friday i was at my local Walmart and saw these in the nerf section. Questions came to mind and was wondering what your thoughts would be on nerf gel blasters. I guess now I know! And it looks like it'll be somewhat decent. I would really like to see if nerf will take this Li-Po battery design and use it in other blaster platforms in the future.

I bought this gun from walmart for less than all the other gel fire guns. It was the cheapest I could find at my walmart. I bought it to try it cause it was less than the others. Great video.

I think that the gelfire might be the thing we need to connect the hobbies, as it has a lower fps compared to competiors which i think is a good think balancing for being in the same game as nerf, as the amazing cqc can trade off for bad long distance due to the same fps caps as other blasters.

I feel like a flatter, longer hopper could look better if they *really* don't want a proper magazine - something resembling a P90 mag that slopes toward the feed(?) system
I haf an old grav fed Airsoft P90 that ran that model and it was WAAAAY to sensitive to firing angle (level / downward ok, upward at all wouldn't feed)

in australia their seems to be mostly internal magazines and not as many hopper types

Someone mentioned the rails for a hyper canister. Got me thinking, getting the 3d printed soda bottle adapter for the mythic, and modding a hyper canister with the mouth off a soda bottle, securing the cap to the canister with a better latch, and boom larger capacity hopper and means to mount on blaster thumb hole rail. Potentially mounted on the top rail and still feed if done right. Transplanting the feed funnel thats internal with a 3d print one that has standard threads might do it...

Nerf will make actual guns before they make a half length dart blaster. I'm almost convinced that they keep dragging their feet on half length just to spite the hobbyists that keep dumping on their products. This is the perfect microcosm of modern day NERF: Under performing, over priced, and a thing that the community never asked for.

Honestly Hasbro has to be pretty confident with their lipo batteries if they are selling them without a smart charger. Its going to be sad if their batteries explode due to poor charging safety.

You would know EXACTLY how many millimeters in diameter the gel balls are if you had a pair of Dial Calipers
Yeah I had looked at some Gel Blasters on Amazon at one point for local group for summer activities. You can get AR styled 60 THOUSAND Gel Ball count Blasters for, drum roll please, 65 USD on Amazon. 60 THOUSAND Balls come with them. I HIGHLY doubt that Nerf comes with more than 1000. AND the ones Im talking about dont have the top feed, they are the clip/drum mag mechanical battery powered feed systems. For nearly 25% off the Mythics price.
Oh and the little pistol ones, which IMO are more like the Mythic are 25 USD. So for 75% off you can get the same thing basically. Or spend the full 8 and have enough blasters for 4 people.

Xploderz where my favorite toy as a kid I loved them over the nerf guns as there was nothing to clean up 😅 but one day the Carthage on the top a little plastic but broke and so I was unable to play with it anymore and I was so sad but now you have reminded me of them and the fun and now I have adult money and so now I can live out my childish dreams 😋 I'm going to buy more of those Xploderz guns idc if there are better for cheaper it was my child hood
