Hike NH: Sunrise hike up Mount Major

- Amy and I took a hike up Mount Major, in Alton NH. We set out in the dark to make the peak before the sun came up so we could watch the sunrise over beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee. While we were up there we figured we would make a hike of it and hit Straightback Mountain, North Straightback, East and West Quarry as well.

How beautiful to hike to the top of a mountain in the dark to sit on a cliff and watch the beautiful sunrise.. I'm jealous! 😉
Ohh Barb, if I were to suggest a mountain to walk up at night, this would be one of them. The hike up wasn't bad and the sunrise was very rewarding! We had a critter trailing us for a bit at the start but left us alone when we told it we weren't there to talk with it soooo it was ultimately a nice hike =D

Those trail signs which indicate the difficulty are sort of interesting. Also that blue light at the beginning was trippy.
Seth, those signs, I think, we’re for the snow mobiles, maybe lol. They do help describe the trail a little though.
Amy isn’t a fan of the blue light but I dig it and it is bright bright bright! 😁 Have a great weekend!

Ohh Mike, trying to put me to work bro! Lol. We did that once a bit ago but I drug her out on a 90 degree day and made her a stir fry lol, probably not the best plan, even though it was delicious if I do say so myself lol.

It is an awesome and relatively easy hike with fantastic views and to be honest, a mountaintop sunrise should certainly be on everybody's list! =D All the best, Gary.

A little local lore. It’s called “Straight Back Mountain” because after you hike there you say “I’mma gonna take the easy trail Straight Back to my car”

I’ve been perfecting my farmers tan myself and getting out when the chance comes up.
Close by me is “The Dismal Swamp”, great name, great bugs, too humid lately, it’ll wait a few weeks for cooler weather.
Also, the town is fixing & adding trails which will be a great improvement as the close by section is somewhat cut off from the rest of the trails and it is a swamp which kind of discourages wandering off path on and making ones own path. Just out walking outside has always been worth it wherever I’ve been.

I’ve been working in our town park and it is nice tidying up the trails and seeing them get used so I will attest to the fact that the guys will likely appreciate a few people hitting the trails!

@@ConnecticutBackcountry Hey Gary, we had a blast. Just enough snow for microspikes and gaiters but no need for snowshoes. Excellent temperatures and no wind made for a layerless trek. Did the loop counterclockwise and finished on Major, successfully avoiding the families and people out for a leisurely stroll. Started at 9 and got back to the lot just at sundown. Couldn't have been a better close out for the 2021 hiking season. Even found a Mora knife someone dropped at a stream crossing.We used it as a geartest, and everything passed with flying colors. Stay cool.

Good call on avoiding the crowds, it makes for a more enjoyable trip imo.

Cool place looks a great hike. I haven't figured out how to edit yet but that looks like a Lotta extra work climbing back up to get camera all the time lol.
Lol, it is a bit of work for sure but isn’t too bad and I need the exercise lol. I do most of my editing on the computer with cyber long power director. It is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it, for the simple stuff I do that is. Hope your weekend is going good!

It has. It feels like forever since I’ve posted but life happens quick and I got lost for a bit lol. I do the walking back and forth lol, nobody ever seems to volunteer for that! 🤣😂 Lol!! It does though! I cut some stuff with my hat off because the glare washed out the camera. 🤩 the dark was fine, the headlights worked the way they were supposed to, lit up everything pretty well.
