This guy started studying with the Gracies in 1986 and by UFC 1 (1993) had also studied with Japanese guys in the Shooto scene. He also had studied quite a bit of different striking arts. No wonder the Gracies didn't want him in the UFC.
I learned these in the 90's from Yuri Nakamura's shoot wrestling book. I could never get clock head scissors to work until I met a JKD guy who knew the finer points of Shoot.
Can be MUCH worse. Probably not from a normal catch wrestling bicep slicer or a short-arm scissors, which as Coach Paulson points out is mostly a pain hold, but there's a few BJJ guys now who are putting on a bicep slicer with just the legs from the guard that can snap the forearm very very quick, because there's not as much finesse but more strength with your legs. Search "bicep slicer break" and be grossed out by the sound if you're feeling brave. It's nasty, seriously one of the grossest martial arts things I've come across.

I learn a year's worth every Paulson vid.

Still trying to learn the calf lock from half guard. very effective, yet very difficult technique.
i have never understood how you can submit someone with the straight footlock considering its range of motion, i learnt it and ditched it.
correct me if im wrong but a bicep slicer will wreck your shit
sharkfinnigan Bicep slicer can rip. Even if it is with the arms muscles can rupture.
