Nice guide. A additional point in terms of rust are the subframes. This is especialy important for cars build in the timespan from 2003 to 2006 for the Evos (after that mitsubishi actually used a revised subframe that was better protected against rust) and not only a problem on the evo but also on first and Second Gen Outlanders(2003 to 2013), standard Lancers(2002 to 2007) and the first gen Airtrek(wich is basically the japanese Variant of the Outlander) as they all share a similar subframe type. There even was a recall for this over in the US. I just did a subframe replacement on a 2004 Outlander where both the front and rear subframe had to be replaced because they had completely split due to rust and the parts only cost for the front and rear subframe is over 1000 Euros per Subframe(I actually used an evo7 Front Subframe on this Outlander because I could get it cheaper than the outlander one).
Yeah you are right! It was a basic guide for anyone that doesn't have any idea just to check basic stuff.
The older 456 are just as bad!
No 1 check after hpi would be for syncro wear in the gearbox!
Mine was toast in short order,rapping when going from first to second gear
Overall a truly awesome drive,the handling & brakes are out of this world

As are the front wings and bonnet on my evo 6. Also on the point of the AYC defects, AYC makes a massive difference to how the car drives and feels so don’t let anyone tell you it’s not a big deal, drive one that works as it should and you’ll see why people pay big bucks to have this in good working order

Front fenders are aluminum... so you wont be finding any rust there...
But you will find horrendously rolled arches so always worth checking 👍
