I bought my EVO 8 new in 2005. The only mod has been a bigger rear sway bar. It truly can do everything: track days, canyons, wet weather. It just doesn’t care. Great video, I love the Evo. But to answer your question, a C5, C6, or C7 is also a great choice for a versatile car that can do everything well. Corvettes hold many drag/track records and a C6 recently beat a Evo 9 in the Optima Auto Cross event, but damn it was close. Both incredible cars with very different approaches to speed. Which looks the best is highly subjective.
Which is the best Evo is based on performance on the rally circuit and the IV-VI dominated all. I bought a V as she won both drivers and manufacturers championship in 1998 - Performance, rarity and pedigree.
Unfortunately the VII and IXs only have the first two - 🎤 Drop 😎

But it's a love hate relationship. Stuff breaks or it wants to pick a day and not run right and you get fed up... But those days it runs great and you do a few pulls or hit a curvy road...Ooo. When it comes to the reliability and you said it’s about the build and maintenance I think you need to let these viewers know that this isn’t typical maintenance you gotta replace everything on this car every 20k miles 😂 I’ve went through 6 clutch’s 4 starters 8 cam position sensors 4 o2 sensors 4 new coils and tires every 10k miles a wastegate solenoid switch a shifter cable assembly that birdcaged and left me stranded in the middle of Indiana . 2 transfer cases and a set of synchros and whole new fuse box/distribution block from the fender liner letting water in…. The list goes on and this thing only has 65k on it 😂 you gotta be on top of every aspect of this car is an understatement imo… call it unreliable or call it what you want but if you want something that you will do more driving then fixing this ain’t the one for you.. also most parts have to be special ordered and even Mitsubishi doesn’t make a lot of 8/9 parts anymore so be prepared to have this on the lift or jack stands for a good amount of time waiting.. just my experience good luck out there 😂

Love my 9 ill never sell it makes a bit over 600 to the wheels fully built bottom to top no expenses spared. Imo 9s look the best and I see them appreciating the most due to limited supply made I think like 8k of them roughly in the US and I'm sure alot have been beat to shit or totaled sadly

i agree, i think that the specialty cars from 90's to 00's are going to continue to gain momentum, at least for the next few years. I think that this was the hayday for this type auto, not to be reproduced or replicated in the near future, and for sure no where near the cost if so....imo . cool vid, i think you are right...

Nice vid! I'm now in the situation that luckily I have 3 Evos to choose. 1st 2003 150k miles $26k, one owner stock good conditions. 2nd 2003 80k red color just trubo and headunit moded $30k. 3rd 2006 se 140k heavily moded under the hood, rebuild engine and all gauges added(spent about $15k) $30k. Usually I would pick the stock one, but looking at the mileage they make me struggle Which one would you pick?

    • @ChrisGoorbarry

Hello Chris.. Just a quick chat.. my Name Nizam from Malaysia and I'm planning to buy a 2004 Evo9 MR Japan Specs and I have already found the company that sell the same model as yours. I'm also want to mod as same as yours once I get my hands on it.. so need your favor and appreciate if you could list down ALL the parts and component that you have installed in your Evo9 including the lips and the side skirts.. You really do have an awesome looking Evo9 and I envy to that.. hope I can clone same as yours bro. thanks again.
