The mighty mighty O'Jays putting all the shady people on blast in a soulful musical format...Peace
PUREEEEE Philidelphia Sound. This could not be anything but a chartbuster.
What the O'Jays were singing about in 1972 still rings true today.
this is the Philadelphia sound of the 1970's. the record label, Philadelphia International Records, was headed by mega-producers (and alumni of my high school West Philadelphia High school) Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff created a distinct sound of their own that was sought after by many artists including the Jacksons. the "Philly sound" was big in the 70's.
Angie Stone sampled this for her song “WISH I DIDN’T MISS YOU”
Yessss
The Undisputed Truth - Smiling Faces.
He already reacted to that song...
@Virginia Slade OK.
Already did this one! - ua-cam.com/video/UD7hdt1Dj4Q/v-deo.html
@@JustJammin I only commented on them because you couldn't remember the band. But thanks for the link!
Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff was so gifted in writing great songs, they are the most successful song writing and production team in history,in my opinion.
Another Gamble and Huff classic production.
Gamble & Huff gave us so many classics it's ridiculous. Even gave The Jacksons their new sound after they left Motown.
@@lewalcindor9356 Facts 💯
This was the song that began it all for Philadelphia International.
Bobby Martin was a genius arranger.
I was 16 when this song came out and it sounds even better today! Great reaction!
Smilin Faces I believe was By Undisputed Truth. Aside from the hand drums, usually congas, the beat is created on drum set, with the stick laying across the snare drum playing the rim, which is often called ‘cross stick’. On this groove you play it on every beat. Sometimes it would be played on the actual snare, on every beat. The title cut of Superfly soundtrack uses that beat, as well as I’m Your Pusher Man.
Ground-breaking for O'Jays and Philly Soul. Lots of outstanding tracks on this one.
Love, love, love this song. One of their best.
Fun Fact. Had the Philly sound for sure but came from Canton Ohio in fact, just played downtown a few weeks ago. Nice to see em home again after all this time.
Ojays
" I guess you got your hooks in me"
Classic track man! Check out "For the Love of Money " by the O' Jay's 🔥
Just a Classic of my youth.. Always Love!!!!
I suggest you see them perform this on Soul Train video. See how dynamic and powerful they were. The Soul Train host named them "The Mighty" O'jays. This is a classic.
Don't Call Me Brother by the O'Jays is a must hear.
Yep, Smiling Faces(Sometimes) was by the Undisputed Truth. It was released in 1971 about a year before Backstabbers.
O’Jays were a top act back in the day. They still tour today.
ACTUAL VIBES USED IN A MAJOR POP HIT...AWESOME.USED TO PLAY THIS ALL THE TIME WHEN IT CAME OUT,,,O'JAYS ..SO GREAT
Hey check out Donny Hathaway "A Song For You" a true classic
🤩 Oh yeah...Love the O'Jays! Another great r&b group whose music was very much part of my childhood. I paid attention to those lyrics growing up, as well those of "Smiling Faces" by The Undisputed Truth. 👍👍👍✌
one of the lead singers, eddie levert is the father of the late, great singer gerald levert. they have a song together, baby hold on to me. they were sanginG!
The Undespruted Truth made the song "Smiling Faces".
The architects of sweet Philly Soul Gamble and Huff Thom Bell and McFadden and Whitehead
"Smiling face sometimes" by The Undisputed Truth.......
Trivia- the Temptations originally recorded the song on their "Sky's the Limit" album and Eddie Kendricks sang lead in his falsetto voice. The Temptations version is over 12 minutes long.
This was covered by solo neo soul artist, Angie Stone. I think jeers only used the intro through the whole song. Nice recognition to some of Curtis Mayfield’s music, as the groove where something is hittin on every beat like Curtis’ Tunes Superfly, & I’m Your Pusher Man.
One of the great soul songs of alltime music and arrangements from the great Gamble Huff
Always loved this song and The O'Jays! The Undisputed Truth recorded the song Smiling Faces.
It's a little late comment, but I just found this. My sister says this song reminded her of me because I was into R and B music at that time. Another one is Kung Foo Fighter. She's gone now, but what good memories. THANK YOU! I will continue to follow. 🎶🎤🫶👩🦳
I love this song. Listened to this all the time. I watch their performance on Soul Train. 🙂
That's that Philadelphia sound👌
"Smiling Faces" was originally recorded by the Tempations, but most famously be the group, "Undisputed Truth" also on Motown.
(edit-Oops, I see you reacted to it soon after!)
The other group is The Undisputed Truth, and the name of their song is "Smiling Faces".
J, Their "Love Train" and "For the Love of Money" are next for you!
"Smiling faces." sung by The Undisputed Truth.
The Undisputed Truth. Smiling faces, great song.
This was the jam to do the robot dance. Love this song.
Fantastic stuff .. ! 70s were a cool time brother !
The O'jays Backstabbers album is one of their best. Around 4 or 5 hit songs on that album. Check out 992 Arguments a jam like Backstabbers.
I’d forgotten about 992 arguments, great song I’ve not heard in years. I’m going to have to listen to that next.
Mannnnnnn, what a record 🙏🏾
The group were The Undisputed Truth and the song was Smiling Faces.
Lol...JJ, you say that (Superfly vibes) every time you hear bongos! Common in African influenced music.
YES !!! Loved this one , they outed all those BACK STABBER'S 💜
Fact Gamble and Huff who wrote produce the Ojays, Teddy Pendergrass, along with many other groups are the most forgotten about and under appreciated producing teams. They should be mention alone with Quincy Jones as the best ever. For the Love on Money productions was so ahead of its time it still sounds fresh today.
Cool tune..always loved it and still do.
Love the O’ Jays!!!! Watch them as older men who still have it in spades singing this with Daryl Hall on “ Live From Daryl’s House”. It’s on YT. You have such a soothing voice!
MFSB,Gamble & Huff!!
CLASSIC....you are really on your A GAME today with these reactions....TLC just used a line from this song for their song " Case Of The Fake People"....lol....NOBODY would be foolish enough to try to top the Ojays original hit....this song put the Ojays on the map....LOVE IT
That Philly sound is strong here...
You should listen to Put Our Heads Together and Extraordinarily Girl by O'Jays .Great tunes .
Extraordinary Girl-LOVE LOVE that song!!! One of my favorites.
Thank you young man! I'm so glad I subscribed to your channel, and when I get home from work and relax, this is the first place I come to on youtube to see what you've listened to. I know that I'm going to at least see some 70s Soul in your reactions. You are helping me to relax after work, and re live the great musicianship that I've tried to take from in my musical endeavors. Just Jammin is a nice channel man! Keep up the great work! I would love to see you react to "Bustin Loose"(short version) by Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers and figure out who took that song and made another hit with it. Peace young man!
"Smiling Faces" was the Undisputed Truth.
it was the undisputed truth you were having trouble remembering... love watching your vids... always takes me back.
You react to the best music! I immediately hear this song in my head when I see certain ppl. 🤦🏾♀️👊🏿🌱💚☘️🍀🖤🗝
i was thinking the Movie Shaft, just like superfly lol
Forever Mine....We Cried Together...their best work....in my top 5 groups of all time
This been sampled so much
The other group, 'Undissputed Truth'. (Smiling faces).
Smiling Face was made by The Undisputed Truth. A group from DETROIT
This is old, but the group you were thinking of was Undisputed Truth. 😊
the undisputed truth has a song very similar to the premise of this song.
I was 25, had a chest tube in my lung, and my fiance's niece's husband dropped by with the kids to play with my little boy. I was washing dishes, expecting my fiancé to be home any minute and this guy felt me up from behind. I told Danny that I didn't want Jeff at the apartment when Danny wasn't there. (I never told him what happened, as not to cause a riff).
from a gun shot to the chest in the City. I went back to work, moved in my then fiance and had a drainage bag on my upper left side. Vulnerable, right?
I should have slapped that guy and told my boyfriend.
" I love music " is my fave o'jays track instantly jump up and dance track ❤️
The Undisputed Truth/ Smiling Faces Sometime has a familiar story line.
Smiling Faces by The Undisputed Truth
ua-cam.com/video/UD7hdt1Dj4Q/v-deo.html
The 70s had some great songs. The sound of the times was amazing
The Undisputed Truth sang Smiling Faces.
The O'Jays had been around for 14 years, with sporadic success, when they finally hit the big time with this song.
Please react to the Spinner's "Love Don't Love Nobody" I think your ready for this because you appreciate old school music and their connection to the music of today regarding "sampling" and "covers" as you said "you got to use the right terms"...
really really great song!
Oh yes bad ass album! I know I had it. All the songs were fantastic (To Me). Your right it dose have a Curtis Mayfield feel to it. It’s was during the same time fame. Love this song its very truthful & powerful. You go young blood! This reaction was awesome!
Philly soul at its best.... THE MIGHTY MiGHTY!!!!!! O.JAYS.
Lil Kim did a back stabbers song too with junior mafia and sampled this
Classic classic classic!
Yep. Not just a song. 🔪 🔪🔪💯💃🏽🎵🎼🎤❤️
This is Philly Soul
You should check out The O'Jays on Live From Daryl's House to see what they are like now. This is one of the songs they do an extended jam of on there. That beat is pure Philly Soul.
Great classic 👌
Indeed it is!
Check Out: The O'Jays - For The Love of Money ... Sampled by Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five * Queen Latifah ..&... Charlie Batimore ..
Love them!
I still remember how crazy I thought this song was when I first heard the lyrics.
I really miss real music😢

Oh yeah! OJAYS Backstabbers. That was, and still is a baaad motha jamma.
Please React to "992 Arguments" by The O'Jays.
I'd like you to do Family Reunion by them too.
I love this song and I Love The O'Jays thank you for reacting to them. Now can you please react to Peabo Bryson I'm So Into You? He is one of the most looked over slept on and his voice is ridiculous the quality of the song is ridiculous and his voice is so rich. But I don't want to do your reaction for you what I tried to give you and opinion can you please judge it for yourself and react to I'm So into you by him and also feel the fire
Keep asking you to play more Philly and New York sounds of that era....you have to know what black folks were listening to at that time....so let me help you out with a list of artists.....you just dont know what a treasure chest of hits you will find with just these few artists i will give you
