i remember buying this game on sale when it came out on PS1. it didn’t do to well on selling so gamestop gave an early sale on it and me and my brother went half on the game and didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into. what caught my attention was the phrase behind the game case. it read “hunt or be hunted” so simple yet complex. as i played the game and progress i found myself falling in love with it. the gameplay, the grinding, the music, the wonderful graphics, it all brought me to another world that felt so real. then now grown up throughout the years playing every game in the franchise(except frontier), i can say that nothing beats monster hunter 1
Awesome! i love hearing about how people first got into MH. I got into when my mom asked me to pick a game for my little brother for Christmas. I pick monster hunter because he liked dinosaurs lol. I had to learn it to help him play but then i got hooked and claimed for myself 😂
My first contact with MH was through this, and it was pretty charming despite the shortcomings it had that literally stopped me from playing further, looking at this kind of makes me go back to it some time, back to simpler, "easier" times... Then i saw the vespoids during the egg quest, the 4+ bullfangos and preys at all times, Rathalos' obsession with aerial turism, every herbivore seeking a diet conversion to human meat, and whatever other bullshit i can't recall right now For all that, i appreciate though that you can actually see Monoblos underground when it's paintballed, something MHFU decidedly doesn't do for whatever reason Cool run
I can not believe it, a mad man no a hero has appeared and just gone and done it, congrats!!!!! This is my fave MH game and I was literally going to start speed running it and routing it out cause no one had done it before but damn you did it this is so cool!
Speedrun MH1 is a big challenge and congrats to the guy, but speedrun 100% (completing The Shadow in the cave, The Runnaway Diablos, Terror of the Gravios, Handle With Care and A Troublesome Pair quests) is another much, much bigger challenge. Another even greater challenge would be to beat online and then beat MH2 DOS offline and then online (with the Burango Patch) it's another level of difficulty completely, because in online mode the bosses were made to be faced with more than a player (they have much more HP, more damage and more resistance). Playing in online mode and beating it without anyone's help makes MH2 DOS the hardest 3D game of all time (Souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro and others seem extremely easy games compared to this).
@@mac76239 You can find something unfair while still being able to complete it. I can wipe the floor with MR Kulve Taroth in under 10 minutes yet I still find the dps fleeing mechanic stupid and unfair (Kulve flees if she’s been in the same area for ~8 minutes or so). What Ryan Indiefest is getting at is that being forced to do hub quests, which are scaled for multiplayer, isn’t really fair as a solo player. Hub monsters have more health with the expectation that multiple people are killing it and deal more damage with the expectation the monster is going to target someone else before carting you. It’s like trying to do solo Safi with maxed region energy before the scaling update. Yeah, you can do it if you’re a world class runner with some busted bowgun build or something, but it’s not a fair challenge. Maybe some want that kind of difficult, and it may also attract a lot of attention and fame, but it’s still a heavily skewed playing field that really shows you can just do “x thing but bigger”. Once you know a monster’s moves, it doesn’t matter if it does ten damage or a million, you still aren’t carting. HP is a different story, being able to kill a healthier foe in a tight time frame does show excellent build preparation and fight scripting. However, in a non-time sensitive manner it is really just doing the task again and again, but for a longer period of time. In Monster Hunter World, I downloaded a mod called “The Last Vaal Hazak” which adds AT Vaal Hazak in MR with a few new moves. That Vaal had 75k HP, 50% than AT Velk and over double what AT Nami had. Of course, Vaal’s AI is really easy to abuse and his hitzones are very generous. Still, it took me ~31 minutes on my first run (mainly because the developer broke the AI or something seeing as Vaal spent a good quarter of the fight running around like a headless Rathian). Of course, I’m not the best, so I ended up having to slot in Health Boost 3 and Effluvium Res 3 to not get 1 tapped or killed by the effluvium puddles (which are EVERYWHERE). Once I did that, however, the fight just turned into a 30 minutes slug fest. Was the fight doable, ABSOLUTELY! Was the fight fair, no. The absurd health pool didn’t contribute anything to difficulty, just gave more room for mistakes to be made while dragging on the fight to the point if exhaustion. I will, however, not mention Alatreon in this discussion. I understand weapons like the Gunlance were poorly designed to not deal reasonable element, yet Escaton still is a big “git gud” moment. Elemental damage is the intended way to fight Alatreon (albeit in a really intrusive way with the ult). Even if its not dps efficient, you still have to do it. Anyways, tldr is that a fight doesn’t have to be impossible for it to be unfair. In fact, a fight can be easy yet still have certain unfair mechanics. Additionally, health and damage bloat don’t give a true boost in difficultly but just drag out the fight and try to punish non-existent mistakes respectively. Also, sorry for only using World for my points, I’ve only played World and Rise so far. I am planning on picking up P3 and FU now that school is out though!
I bought this game back in the day because I read monster hunter and in my brain thought monster rancher, like the anime I watched as a kid. Boy did I not know what I was getting myself into.
