Build This Drill Press Angle Jig

  • Build a drill press jig to hold stock at various angles. The fence attaches side to side or top to bottom. Two t-tracks provide for ample hold-down of stock. A modified protractor helps determine the angle. The center piece can be replaced when worn. The jig can be turned to either side on the drill press table to accomodate longer stock.
    Note: the design of this jig borrows heavily from a pattern published in ShopNotes magazine, Issue #6, November 1992.

    Brilliant!I've seen a few of your video's. Best jig for me so far.
    Also, Duco Cement? Seriously? My dad swore by Duco Cement. 85% of my shoes, clothes, toys, furniture, friends, neighbors, friend's neighbors and 100% of my pets had Duco Cement doing something for them...... Thanks for the memory.Keep the video's coming. Can never ever have too many jigs.

    You needed to drill a 30 degree hole....? Wow, I never thought you'd come up with a jig for that Fred.... Yea, right! Great Vid!

      You and I, We're from the same piece of wood (so to speak). I love and depend on many jigs also. You are the Master though! Bryan

      That Shop Fox was my own upgrade to the Cummins (the one with the 6 1/2" table). I got the Cummins for $130 at a used tool sale several years back. Now that I have the Shop Fox, the Cummins serves as a dedicated spindle sander. Thanks, Jim!

    Damn fine jig there Fred. I just tripped over your site and now I'm a subscriber, I have to ask what the stocking stuffer was that predicated the build? Thanks for sharing.

      @Woodtoolsworkshop  7 років тому

      Hi, Jeff, and welcome! The stocking stuffer is a little thing called a book holder, which appeared in the latest edition of Scroll Saw Woodworking. It's diamond shaped and has a hole for your thumb drilled at 30 degrees. When I realized how handy those would be to avid readers, I knew I'd found my "mass production" object for this year. I'm cranking them out now, and plan to put up a video about it soon.

    This is a pretty sweet jig... what are you doing to help prevent you from drilling into the jig itself? 🤓👍🏼

    • @Woodtoolsworkshop
      @Woodtoolsworkshop  7 років тому

      The center piece is replaceable, but for the drilling I did in the video, I put a piece of 3/4" scrap plywood under my stock. This jig's too new to go grinding it up with a 1" bit right off the bat. :)

    Brilliant. shame my drill press is one of the cheap pieces of crap and needs major modification to be useful.
    but, I have plans to do that ~soon~
    my only wish, please include metric measurements (as well) as you have a world wide audience and the majority of the world uses metric.

    • @Woodtoolsworkshop
      @Woodtoolsworkshop  7 років тому

      John, I truly wish we would abandon imperial and use metric in the USA, as it's a much better system, and our monetary system is based on it. Given that a lot of my work is sized according to whatever I choose, I can see that switching to metric wouldn't be a big issue for me. Thank you for pointing this out. I will definitely keep it in mind going forward.
