Ariel Posen Gear & Jams [New Hudson Broadcast-AP, Mulecaster, TPS Band] - That Pedal Show
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 тра 2024
- Ariel Posen joins us to talk about his 2019 travel board, the signature Hudson Broadcast-AP overdrive pedal and his incredible metal-body Mulecaster. He also jams with the That Pedal Show band!
Ariel is a wonderful musician who we first met in 2016. He has a long CV of band, touring and session playing, including The Brothers Landreth. He has recently embarked on a solo career, releasing the album ‘How Long’ in 2019, following up with live dates across Europe and North America.
We are delighted to welcome him to Schwangri-La to shoot the breeze about life, guitars and related matters arising… not least his new Hudson Broadcast-AP pedal, before some epic jammage with Doug Mussard (drums) and Paddy Blight (bass) - otherwise known as That Pedal Show Band… when they don’t have a better gig - ha!
Ariel is playing the Two-Rock throughout, Mick and Dan play the Victory at the end.

Always a pleasure guys! Thanks again for having me!! Much love.
Ariel Posen you are great!!
Yeah baby! Great to see you and thanks for playing your ass off! Wonderful!
“I guess we should talk about the MOOD”
“It’s been on the whole time!”
A good laugh and a good lesson - even pedals with myriad weirdness can have very accessible sounds. So much of the fun is in finding both.
Killer stuff, Ariel. You're an incredibly inspiring player. Keep making great stuff!
Look mate, your playing is awesome and all, but I really want to know how you get your hair looking like that!
Watching Ariel makes me want to both play guitar and quit guitar at the same time
Haha i know what you mean, he's a great player!
Truth
Ha love it. Same here. Also Nathaniel Murphy and Ariel do it to me the most.
God, SO true!!
I've typed that about so many TPS guest players, then deleted the comment, slapped myself in the face and recited "it's not a competitive sport, it's not a competitive sport, it's not..."
Ahh, who am I kidding? I suuuuck.
I know this is a day late and a dollar short, but you should make a TPS shirt that has pedals stacked on each other like the stonehenge pillars and write “Tonehenge” on it, referencing your recent video
The "CrossBrace" should be an expression pedal / wah
Great idea, bro'. Really really great.
Interesting bits 00:00 to 1:00:00
Haha!!! Awesome. Thank you.
the Broadcast-AP is very good....I mean VERY good.
What do you think of it a year on? I'm thinking of getting one
@@simononeill941 same here it sounds really great, but $$$.
@@jeffdubuque5622 this is crazy, i sold mine about a week ago. its good, but i think there are things that can do the same think with out the price tag.
@Delphine Furnia i don1t care this a guitar channel.
@@christopher-miles like what
My dad was a pro musician (drummer) and at the end of his life a music teacher. He used to say: "you spend so much time learning your technical skills and when you think you have them all under control, you realizes you know nothing about expression and that It is what all is about"
I suspect Ariel have been devoted not only to technical stuff but to expression. That's made him more than a killer guitarist, a splendid musician.
This is one of my favorite TPS episodes so far. Ending jam is priceless!!!
Well said!
The love watching Doug and Paddy's grins during these jams. They're a great new addition when you have guests on!!!
Also, that thing that Mick said about 'no TPS gigs in the book - struggling to make it pay' ... why not do the gigs at That Pedal Shed and setup a chat window, so that pedal questions can be asked in the middle ? Maybe 3-5 songs, pedal questions, more songs , guest artist who's there that day plays a few songs, more pedal questions, last few songs...
Maybe small number of patreons could be invited to turn up ... surely that would reduce your costs massively if you put your own gigs on back at the ranch ?
That jam was incredible. Mick's tone and playing both made me re-evaluate just how great he is as a player - Ed O' Brien was not wrong! Then Dan comes along and builds his solo up with some of the sauciest note choices I've heard in a while. This episode has been wonderful, and I thank you for it
Thank you sir! It’s true for all of us that we sound more musical and connected when there’s music and connection. Everyone should be jamming and making noise with mates! Thank you for the kind words! Mick here.
I love when the boys just can't help but have this enormous smile when Ariel plays... much deserved awe
*someone plays*
Dan : *Looks to the sky at jesus*
Don't make fun of the man when he's at church
Ariel Posen just gets better and better
Ariel is both the ultimate frontman and sideman, confirmed.
What a fantastic show! The interview was captivating, but then the music! This is what music is suppose to be - people playing to gather to see what happens. Mick and Dan, what you are producing is so valuable. Thank you! An Ariel - you are a new generation of what's possible with music and guitar. Can't say enough about how wonderful this is.
Every time you have any of these guys (Ariel, Joey, Josh, Kirk, etc) on I want to find an album of them playing by themselves like they do on this show. Any chance TPS could release some albums of these great improv performances? 😎
You know what... that is an exceptional idea.
That would be great.
That Pedal Show lets do iiitt
Ariel just released an album of him doing exactly this :)
Mick’s playing during that jam... maaan that hit the spot. so tasteful 👌🏻
Thank you! Mick here. Always inspiring to play with actual humans. :0)
Oy, looking back at all of these pre-pandemic videos and realize how different a headspace we were all in! Love, all!
Can't get enough of his tone and his playing. What a dude!
Goose bumps on that intro... now i need a slide!
Once again lads, the mixing on the live jam segment is phenomenal. I wish all records sounded so rich and dynamic!
That was insane 🤯 top draw all round I am now 50 years old and started learning guitar about 5 years ago 🎸 and it's watching you guys and the Anderton loonies that keep me inspired to keep going, thank you 😁👌❤️
Nice one John! Welcome to the family!
@@ThatPedalShow Thanks 😎
It would be really cool to get Michael Hudson on the show. I've never seen him interviewed and would love to hear from him.
Ariel is such an awesome guy with a great positive vibe.... not to forget his beautiful playing!
He's one of those rare players that fits into the creative, thinking 'out the box' types like Ed O'Brien and it's a breath of fresh air musically. I hear John Martyn and Nick Drake in his playing too.
I've been watching this channel for years... got tee-shirts, I use the notebooks at work. But that jam is just absolutely amazing. This is why That Pedal Show beats everything for me - all the TV shows, all the vlogs. What an experience. The drummer and bassist deserve awards, they are expert masters at what they're doing. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you sir, very kind of you to say!
Broadcast video?? YES PLEASE!!!! i´d love to see some comparison between them like voltage, transistors and so on!! HIT IT!
Doug's snare is soooo phat i love it!!! Amazing jam too makes me wanna play right now
The best, such a great guy.
Just finished watching. Wow. I’m heading back to the beginning to watch all over again. Sublime.
Dan's choice of notes in that was a masterclass.
whoever does the band mix in this small room is doing a great job. the drums sound great.
That’s Fraser!
Always come back to this video to hear Posen demo the Broadcast. Such an incredible player.
Hadn't ever realized his was Silicon.
I have a Broadcast dual foot switch clone that a local builder made for me that is both Germanium & Silicon with a switch for 9v or 27v. So, basically it's a perfect mashup of the OG dual footswitch broadcast & Posen's version.
Jesus Ariel you are a god.
Mick - you captured the dynamics so unbelievably well in that jam.
Dan - when you feel a song. You’re playing goes next level.
All in all. What a freaking great show.
Thank you Jordan!
This may be my favorite episode yet. That jam session at the end was fantastic.
Man guys, your playing in the jam was some fine musicianship.
Hats off, all of 'em!
This is my intro to Ariel... and it’s been a pleasure. Love the player, the mule and the broadcast AP.
Oh man you guys... I just can’t help but smile at all these jam sessions at the end. This is the reason we play music and even experiment with pedals. Glad you’ve put the focus back on the “why” and not just the “what”. Well done sirs.
Thank you Michael, glad you’re enjoying it!
I've just finished a beast of a project at work and have been rewarded with Ariel on TPS. Today is turning out to be a good day. Thanks guys!
Great jam at the end. Hats off to the band as well as Ariel, Mick and Dan, beautifully played all. So great to hear a real drummer with the swing instead of the modern pop inflicted on me by my teenage daughters. 🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍
Hahahaha!!!!
Ariel is a tone master for sure!! Love that B tuning with that guitar!!
So killer. And what a RIPPING outro jam!
Ariels playin so inspiring
That Angeline jam was amazing. I’ve literally listened to Angeline everyday multiple times a day since I caught it on Paste Studios when Ariel played it. My desert island song for sure.
It would be awesome to get a backing track for this. I’d never leave home.
Felt a bit down with France's Covid lockdown 2.0. Remembered Ariel had been on TPS and realised he was the perfect antidote (or was it Dan's enthusiasm???). Rewatched for at least the fourth time. Wonderful tonic, and W.HAT a sound...?!?!
Yay! Lockdown sucks if you let it.
A shout-out to the rhythm section, too! Laid back, but on point. The drummer is bad ass.
Doug and Paddy. They are the men!
I came across Familiar Ground this past weekend and was floored by the stellar sound/recording. Ariel nailed it when he said he's much more comfortable performing his songs now as that came across in the performance. Very relaxed but in control. So very inspiring. My favorite song from that list is Try, such a good, subtle groove and the chords Ariel uses are, in Dan's words "Glorious"! Congrats Ariel and thank you Mick and Dan for having Ariel stop by for a visit :)
I bought Ariel’s album the day it came out and haven’t looked back. He is one of my favorite guitars and his approach to tone is something to hold in the highest regard. Maybe someday I’ll actually be able to attempt playing one of his tunes.
AP - inspirational musician and mean guitarist! great show, as always
These end jams are so eeepiiiiiiiiiiicccc
awesome sounds
Shout out to my fellow Canuck. Great playing, Ariel... What a 'feel' player and that first groove was magical.
I’m usually grossly offended by any kind of nationalism. Mick here. Or if not offended as such, at least deeply uncomfortable with what it means. But I love Canadians so much it just feels entirely acceptable with you lot!
@@ThatPedalShow - Much appreciated ;-) And much continued success with the channel. You and your guests have been very entertaining and as always I look forward to the next show.
Loved it!
Great Show!!!
Great jam this week, boys!
AWESOME!!!
Was able to see Ariel once before the record was out, and once after, unbelievable both times. It’s one thing to be a great guitar player, it’s another to be a great songwriter.. Congrats on all the success! Can’t wait to hear the next record!
Actually weird seeing Mick play standing up lol. Fantastic playing and blue sounds great.
Ha! Even weirder to say that I really struggle to play sitting down. True story!
That was great.
Really like the jam session at the end. Hope it is done more often
The jam at the end sounds great. Excellent job mixing the audio. 47:56 - 50:37 is absolutely perfect! Ariel is the man.
Props to Fraser for a great mix and production job!
Ariel + Dan was unreal!!! Fantastic players.
So good!
Incredible! It is lovely to hear Ariel. The Familiar Ground show is so inspiring as well! The TPS is always getting better and better; every Friday I have this thought: "well, that was the nicest show ever!"; but the next week always comes to prove me wrong! You guys are the best. Thank you for sharing all this. Cheers!!!!
This guy is amazing
He really is!
Really enjoy this show. Really like the humor and the in-depth knowledge you guys bring. Thanks from California
Loved the jam format guys.
fantastic job Guys, every shows are excellent.
Goodness gracious. Dans tone. ❤️
Such a special episode! Ariel is one of the most inspiring players for me in a long, long time. Absolutely love it!
Love new style of your videos!
Great episode. The jams at the end were magnificent. Ariel deserves every success.
Please do more of these.
Great Playing - love it !
Amazing jam!!
Ariel. Missed you while watching the Bros Landreth on tour but so glad I see you here on the channel.
Thanks guys. Great show. Fantastic playing on the axes guys
I've just been binging all the TPS and Andertons interviews with Joey and Ariel, as well as Ariel's new concert video, and then you released this. I'm in roots-rock heaven!
Bravo one and all.
Great conversation and awesome jams at the end!
Great tones and playing 👍👍
Tremendous jam gents. Thanks for that!
I'm really loving these jams! Please keep it up!
Canadian boy, eh! Ariel and Joey Landreth in the same band, what a killer combo that was!
I really enjoyed´this! Cheers.
You guys have improved my day no end.
I've got a gig tonight, you fellas got me geared up. Nice stuff
these jams are nicely mixed
killer jam guys cheers
It's always a pleasure to watch the episodes with guys like Joey and Ariel. And anyone who comes in that are genuinely mates with Mick and Dan. They just seem to have a whole different vibe to them then the rest.
Love the new format with all the sweet jams! Well done fellas!
Great jam at the end 😁
Almost closed out before the jams thinking it was the end of the show. Luckily I noticed the show still had like 20 min left. So glad I stayed for the jams. Dang guys. I’m wrung. That was incrediballs! Posen is a master. It’s fun to see musicians having fun playing. The drummer looked like he was in heaven playing with Posen. Doug? Dougie? Great show!
Douglas Benedict Bartholemew Mussard III. We call him Dougie.
< exactly one houre of pure tone! thanks! >
Brilliant playing by all at the end. Holy hell, that was lovely.
The decibel meter is back....I can sleep sound tonight....oh, how I missed the warm, red glow.....
Amazing final jam! So cool!!
Great episode guys :) And Dan, damn! Your playing at the end...your sense of melody, gooood stuff man! Lovely hearing you play in a band context.
Not just a slide guitar guy ! Just a freaking great guitarist !
GREAT show guys! Dan I am a huge fan BUT Mick.....You had Blue screaming in that jam session. You are one stealthy funky Mother F%^$%^ What a great jam!
You guys should do that more often! Ariel Posen and band. You all are killing it! Keep up the great work. Cheers
Thank you Kirk, super kind of you to say!
@@ThatPedalShow I hope to see you two jamming out more often. You both have great styles that compliment one another perfectly. Have a great weekend. BTW, I love the triplet riffs on the 14th mid solo. NICE!!!!
Your drummer has a look of pure joy!
What an absolute joy to watch. Thanks so much fellas. If I was on that side of the pond I’d buy you guys a pint or three.
