Just great...wish there was more of the performance. There is a wonderful performance from July 7 of that year in Lugano at the Estival Jazz Festival that circulates.
I always liked Mike's sound on the Dukoff. His sound on those Steps and Steps Ahead recordings is beautiful. I will say that I played one of Mike's personal Dukoffs, and it was not an easy thing to play at all. Super restrictive. Not at all like the Dukoffs I played in the later 80's. I was pretty surprised.
@@JazzVideoGuy That collar that Mike wear, could be this video from around his neck injury? And yet he stands so relaxed, smiling and noodling before his solo...maybe his high notes and tone could be a little notch less than other times, maybe he's still adapting to softer reeds here or something? but OMG if this is Mike in bad shape or pain... what a musicianship and what a person!!!!
Another story about Michael’s incredible modesty. People with his level of profound command and mastery don’t usually have that kind of humility. Louis - Have you ever interviewed Tim Ries (sax w/ Rolling Stones)? He told me about Michael being a friend and neighbor.
Bryan, no I didn’t interview Tim. Actually I never interviewed anyone. I did ask many questions over the years here and there, but never a proper interview.
@@ewi4000 Very sorry, I made an assumption. I’m sure just archiving Mr Brecker’s recordings is a full time job! Going back to an earlier conversation: I would love to see/read an interview with Ferdinand Povel.
Tim is brilliant in his own right. Great stuff on his own, including the tango stuff. I think he still lives in New York, and teaches, as well. He's always been super nice to approach.
I'll add that this level of vitality we may never see again. The post modern world has become moribund, alas. Enjoy the warmth of the flickering embers.
@@JazzVideoGuy not sure I agree entirely. Chris Potter, Joshua Redman, Donny McCaslin, Dayna Stephens, Sam Dillon, and some others. Mike would be the first to recognize others for their contributions.
Thank you! Steps' Smokin' in the Pit was one of mmy first jazz albums. Memories... RIP Michael.
ThThat was a great place to start!
This is a great arrangement and the playing is top shelf! But that's Peter Erskoman on drums!! Thanks for posting!
Wow, this is so fantastic..!!! But it is not Steve Gadd on drums as it says at the end of the video, it is Peter Erskine!
How could they have goofed-up the drummer credit like that?!😂
Fantastic video My favorite time period
Thank you Bret and Louis
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!

Crazy, as usual with michael and his teammates!
Hi, Louis
Great to finally see you and hear.you.
Frank (formerly of Hastings-on-Hudson)
Louis does a great job with Mike's Facebook page.
Peter Erskine on drums !
Yess.. it's Peter "fuckin" Erskine!!
BTW, James Taylor's (video) comments at the memorial were incredibly heartfelt, and he gave Mike credit for getting him clean.
Mike had a way of inspiring people.
Amazing!!!! True treasure!
マイケルブレッカーがウエザーリポート‼️
本当に珍し‼️
最高の演奏ありがとうございます😄
Arigato!
excellente trouvaille !
Thank you so much !
Welcome!
Wow, interesting! I thought the drumming sounded a bit different, then I saw Peter Erskine!! Didn't realise Peter joined the band as early as 1982.
The credits are wrong. that is clearly Peter Erskine on drums. Gadd was on the original recording if I am correct.
Correct, Erskine is in the description.
This drummer is not Gadd but Erskine.
yes, thank you
That is not Steve Gadd on the drums. It's Peter Erskine.
good eye/ear
Awesome...
Many many thanks

@@PabloVestory Pretty sure this was just after the throat surgery; they didn’t want him blowing out the larynx again.

Well, yes. Not Steve Gadd but PeterErskine on drums.
yes, I know, thanks
This music always sounds important. But it does take you somewhere else and that's great, I guess.
it brightens my day, always

you are so right

Didn't know he was into Bulgarian music! Are any of those demos online yet?
And that's a killer version of Young and Fine!
No Bulgarian demos online yet
Check out Two Siberians…
