Hi from Bulgaria. Jock Palfreeman was released in 2019. I think he worked for inmate rights, he learned Bulgarian perfectly and as I believe he studied law during the time he served. Regarding the verdict i am not sure what he says is true, because there's a video tape of the incident and it's obvious that he stabbed the guy approaching from his back. The victim was a law student and son of prominent Bulgarian prosecutor. Palfreeman has similar stories in his past - stabbing a guy in Australia - case went without consequences due to lack of evidence. I personally don't know what to think about him - i am admired that he learned Bulgarian and he was helpful for the society working for human rights. Regarding the prison - many years ago i was renting an apartment in one of the 4 high blocks near the prison - i could see the backyard from my terrace. I know that if one has money he's doing easy time - they usually have cellphones, they have TV, hotpot for cooking & other comfortable devices; relatives bring food and they're fine. They do have electricity but they have no heat and during the winter can be very cold. Years ago i knew someone who was in the prison and he was quite often online on Facebook, even posting photos. So if one has money and connections then he's okay. What they say about guards is true - they really beat the arrestees and inmates. I mean Bulgarian policemen can be really tough. You never know. In the past beating was much more. There were cases in the past when police beat to death an inmate. I don't think is as bad anymore. In general public trust and evaluation of the police is quite low. However things are slowly improving.
He strikes me as a far-left agitator type. Not surprised to hear he was the aggressor. Those types always tend to be snakes that strike and then make like theyre the victim after they get caught and punished.

Well yeah. Keep in mind that Bulgaria and Romania were the last to join the EU. They are still normal countries and do not treat prisoners as tourists but as they deserve. Just think. Maybe if Anders Breivik knew he'd be in such an environment instead of a three-star hotel, he would have thought before he killed so many people.
Survival of the fittest describes what is like being born and raised there. Growing up in enviroment like that you don't know it's bad until you leave and see how people from other parts of the world live like. There is good and bad as every place, but it's my home even tho I decided to look for success abroad, I'm proud of where I grew up and the life lessons I learned along the way.
There is something crooked going on here. No camera access to some wards, guards talking secretly to inmates, probably threatening them not to say "too much". Damn.
The foreigners receive royal treatment in comparison to the regular prisoners and the German guy was still scarred.. Imagine how hard that prison is on the locals.
He is a great guy. A very talented stage actor. We are “related” in a way……his brother is my brother-in-law, so we have known one another for a long time.
They crossed the border illegally. Yet the narrator says they are innocent. I worked with an Afghani once, he said that his family members were mocking for being such a coward for leaving the country.
Clearly from the commander's anxiety at allowing the crew to visit the cell with an English-speaking inmate, the guards are much more brutal to the inmates than the other way around. While there are worse prisons, this emphasis on isolation and darkness and lack of heat create an immensely stressful environment, as evidenced by the behavioural manifestations among those who are not part of the elite!
"the guards are much more brutal to the inmates than the other way around" What other way around - the inmates being brutal to tue guards? 😂 Jesus, what prison would it be then?
Clearly. Except we don't know that. It's much more dramatic to think the guard was nervous to let them speak to an English speaking inmate. That "nervousness" could be grossly exaggerated or even manufactured. In not about to say the guards beat the inmates based on a 40 minute documentary. But clearly, you are right.
All prisons should be like this. No one forces you to commit crime. Criminals are people who have no respect for their victims rights, so they should have their rights removed. They should experience the terror their victims feel.
We don't have 100 million for a new modern prison, but we have several billion for 8 fighters. We don't have 500 million to buy fast and modern trains, but we do have one billion for two ships and a few tanks. Priorities.

I'm always curious why a prison counts as one of the toughest prisons where working out, ganging, others abusing is accepted and inmates have a furnished cell even they live with 6 inmates in the same cell.
Joe Forte why because they have no nuts at all and have to use their position to rough someone up? Laughable. People like you who think everyone even petty crime criminals should be beaten obviously are the biggest pussies in the world, you would have to be to have never broken a single law.

People that say its inhumane threatment clearly doesnt understant the world they live in. Prisons are supposed to make you regret every decision which lead you in there not to make your life better. How would you feel if your family murderer lives a happy hotel like lifestyle while you suffer from the loss instead of rotting in the cell and being actually punished for his crimes instead of being rewarded for them.
My favorite part of this video, was in the beginning, the lady sitting with pigeons😍You can tell they know and love her and probably depend on her for food!!! But he never left my side, even thou he could fly away if he wanted too!!! I knew he loved me for saving and caring for him!!! When I rode my bike,he would sit on my shoulder and ride with me everyday, where ever I went.He would even come to me when i called his name😍Chipper, was the name I gave him, because he had a chip on his wing from the bb gun😢I'm 55 now and I still think about him and miss him,he was my little friend😢
There is a nice prison unit belonging to Sofia Central Prison, named Kremikovtsi and located on the northeastern outskirts of Sofia near Bukhovo town. However only Bulgarian citizens are sent there.
Even if it's not as bad as Madagascar, it's still horrible. There's also the documentary "Bulgaria's Abandoned Children" which is just heartbreaking. The videos and photos don't lie, neither does the nervousness or the refusal to let the crew see the whole prison. At least in Madagascar the guards and staff aren't abusive and actually want better conditions.
After many years of political upheaval, there is a new president and he seems to be trying to do something about it. Madagascar is, too, one of the poorest countries (with a lot of rich elites!), but the economy was improving until Covid hit.
And we think prisons are tough in America.. The main thing here is worrying about other prisoners killing you, but they don't have to constantly worry about the guards killing them. That's insane.
Because they are breaking many Euro union human rights laws, notice how before we see the prisoners talk to the camera they go in and probably tell them if they talk about certain things they would probably beat the shit out of them.

This is just part of the clips coming out of this prison. Apart from sexual perverts in public. I watched simulations of hanging and strangling, organizing a duel between 'second class' Roma. Pedophiles and rapists are also targeted by 'first class' prisoners
I can't say I'm shocked... Have you ever heard of the "Stanford prison experiment"? Now that IS shocking! Look that up and everything here will make sense to you, but be warned - it's not a pleasant discovery to make, mildly put!
@@hristoskof1 Not to mention Guantanamo.
As a bulgarian i can confirm the comments on the corruption and crime thing,we do have a financial problem as well. spot on.
@Milko Kalaijiev no u gypsies
Something really of about that Aussie guy. I hate it how they make it look as if all these criminals that proclaim their innocence are actually innocent. Give us the details and facts so we can make up our own mind. Edit....read a few more comments below and low and behold it seems he's a nutter and sounds like he murdered his victim in cold blood , and had stabbed somebody back home in Australia as well.
Busta Rogers nah...he is guilty of sticking his nose in some shit that had nothing to do with himself...but murder, no..he was assaulted by a gang of drunk students who beat him down kicked him and smacked him with some chunks of concrete..the goof who died had a bac of 2.9% hell, he might’ve died from alcohol poisoning anyway....but his affluent daddy used his 💵 influence to insure the trial was skewed heavily to the prosecution, and all exculpatory evidence suppressed and palfreeman was convicted....served 12 out of a 20 year sentence and released last year sometime, idk if he made it home to australia tho
I don't think Jaques will enjoy a clean- ish cell with a computer after the Warden sees this documentary. He's there for a while, he should be careful. Props to him for being bold though.
6:44 "They never turn their back on a loose prisoner. It would be foolish to turn your back on over 100 convicted felons"
6:59 Two guards approach and either look away or turn their back to the loose prisoner, as two more appear from around a corner
LOL!
You can’t tell people not to have hope. Hope is what keeps them going
Prison is not about physical toughness it's all about psychological toughness
'Here in a European capital, in Europe'
Hahahaha
More on that later
@@sethj.7235 keep in mind that Croatia is the last to join EU
When you're a refugee and choose to return to Afghanistan rather than stay where you are, that's truly saying something.
Facts
Survival of the fittest describes what is like being born and raised there. Growing up in enviroment like that you don't know it's bad until you leave and see how people from other parts of the world live like. There is good and bad as every place, but it's my home even tho I decided to look for success abroad, I'm proud of where I grew up and the life lessons I learned along the way.
There is something crooked going on here. No camera access to some wards, guards talking secretly to inmates, probably threatening them not to say "too much". Damn.
These shows make me sooo grateful for the life I have albeit isn't perfect but I'm so glad I wasn't born into some of these other places
Your glad your not a bad person
Gotta less us know every 20 seconds, that it's Sofia Central Prison
Maybe the narrator has a gf named Sofia more on that later.
He was saying it again as I read this 🤣
The foreigners receive royal treatment in comparison to the regular prisoners and the German guy was still scarred.. Imagine how hard that prison is on the locals.
The commentary of this guy makes me watch all of these prisons 🤗
He is a great guy. A very talented stage actor. We are “related” in a way……his brother is my brother-in-law, so we have known one another for a long time.
Afghanis wearing adidas track pants...I see eastern Europe is rubbing off on them.
Adidas nike and puma is common in south asia like afgan india pakistan
They crossed the border illegally. Yet the narrator says they are innocent. I worked with an Afghani once, he said that his family members were mocking for being such a coward for leaving the country.
@Dorohedoro Noi why what do you mean? any source?
They dont belong to Europe,
Comment section:
50% Madagascar
40% Wrong translation
10% something about USA
On the attacks: I think that both scenarios given by the guards and the prisoners are true, but personally I think the guards abuse happen more often
"the guards are much more brutal to the inmates than the other way around"
What other way around - the inmates being brutal to tue guards? 😂 Jesus, what prison would it be then?
Clearly. Except we don't know that. It's much more dramatic to think the guard was nervous to let them speak to an English speaking inmate. That "nervousness" could be grossly exaggerated or even manufactured. In not about to say the guards beat the inmates based on a 40 minute documentary. But clearly, you are right.
Nooooooooooo dhat ap prisoners are prisoners they're bad people and they don't deserve ot
How am I supposed to get anything done when all I can do is watch these? 🤷♀️
I like it and I like it alot! 😁
8:00 the guy didn't say we are armed. He said we are militarized.
"Like a tiger in a cage" "Like a caged animal" all of these shows reference bad conditions for inmates to how human treat other living creatures.
Well said!
Just need to throw this out there, humans are animals by definition so it really is putting an animal into a cage 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Well that's prison what u now I'm bulgarian
Madagascar was by far the worse. Poor guy was there for 38 years and never saw a judge. I wish someone who help those people.

Going to prison is THE punishment, i.e. loss of liberty.
You shouldn't be imprisoned to BE punished.
Death penalty?
All prisons should be like this. No one forces you to commit crime. Criminals are people who have no respect for their victims rights, so they should have their rights removed. They should experience the terror their victims feel.
Losing you freedon is punishment enough If you are dehumised while locked up then you won't come out better for It..
We don't have 100 million for a new modern prison, but we have several billion for 8 fighters. We don't have 500 million to buy fast and modern trains, but we do have one billion for two ships and a few tanks. Priorities.

Same in Romania
I picture the narrator for these some middle aged white guy narrating in a dark corner somewhere lol
lmaoo I thought of Robbie Coltrane's Critical Evidence cutscene where he a big guy stoop over a messy investigator's desk in cigarette smoke, in the dark

I'm always curious why a prison counts as one of the toughest prisons where working out, ganging, others abusing is accepted and inmates have a furnished cell even they live with 6 inmates in the same cell.
I think Bulgarian guards do an awesome job. In other countries criminals are better treated than law abiding citizens
Seriously !! This is the dumbest comment !education is the key ..
So what country is that? Plonker!
If you ask me all these guards deserve a raise and need to come to America and show our guards how to do it
Joe Forte why because they have no nuts at all and have to use their position to rough someone up? Laughable. People like you who think everyone even petty crime criminals should be beaten obviously are the biggest pussies in the world, you would have to be to have never broken a single law.
This shit is a lie the guards let them do what they want for money so corrupt 95% of cops and guards

Despite being 0.5% of Sofian population, gypsies comprise over 50% of the inmates 😁
Racism?

At 25:54 they introduce Stanislav as being 39 years old. I'm 39, and this guy looks way older than me. He must've been around the block quite a few times to have aged that much.
Nothing compared to Madagascar
I am Bulgarian and I understand the things that people in the prison say, only 20% of the things they translate are true. I am laughing so hard at this right now like LOL
Wdym
It's like this with every documentary from this channel lol all the dialogues are fiction
Can you give a few examples? Our eyes don't lie though, and we could understand that English speaking prisoner quite clearly...

Damn it, my first documentary to watch was abt the prison from madagascar, and now the rest of them are so boring(((
Same lol
Honestly I feel like I’ve peaked too early in this series by watching ‘Madagascar’ like this is luxury living. I dont think anything can compare to that actual hell

How can it be such an imbalance between rich and poor everywhere?! It's frustrating to see...

Gypsies are asocial creatures
My favorite part of this video, was in the beginning, the lady sitting with pigeons😍You can tell they know and love her and probably depend on her for food!!! That warmed my heart, seeing that😍When i was a child about 9yrs old, someone in our neighborhood shot a pigeon in the wing and I found him in our cellar well outside😢💔and nursed him back to health😍Plus, once he was better,he was able to fly again!!!
However only Bulgarian citizens are sent there.
thank you for posting
Make up your minds are they in the middle of Europe or on the edge of europe
Europe starts in South-Eastern Bulgaria. It´s the North and West that is at the edge of Europe.
Uh don’t compare this to Europe. The prisoners in EU prisons have it like a holiday. Tjek prisons in my country Denmark 🇩🇰
Norwegian prisons have way better conditions than Bulgarian ones. Madagascar prisons have way worse conditions than the Bulgarian ones.
This one looks like a piece of cake compared to the Madagascar prison episode
Even if it's not as bad as Madagascar, it's still horrible. There's also the documentary "Bulgaria's Abandoned Children" which is just heartbreaking. The videos and photos don't lie, neither does the nervousness or the refusal to let the crew see the whole prison.
At least in Madagascar the guards and staff aren't abusive and actually want better conditions.
they deserves it
After many years of political upheaval, there is a new president and he seems to be trying to do something about it.

You should see the Russian prison in Siberia! Special compartment for killers.
Alexander Beatus Like Black Dolphin
The Russian prisons are the best prisons, love them! 😍

Excellent content!!!
The narrator’s voice is really good 👍
excellent documentary
Why won't they show the condition of isolation?
Because they know they’re fuck’n up royally and not running their prison right. That’s why.
Because they are breaking many Euro union human rights laws, notice how before we see the prisoners talk to the camera they go in and probably tell them if they talk about certain things they would probably beat the shit out of them.
Because there is no isolation facility . There is a single block with bars and cells . The rest of the prisoners can leave on vacation , have tvs . Two prisoners escaped recently just running away by the guard and out on the street . This is a great syfy movie if you ask me
Raymond Dey it ain’t like that mate I live here recently journalist went there most of the prisoners had phones money drugs and other things that are not allowed in the prison brought by the guards the prisons are corrupted af

You should cover about the prison island in Indonesia, it's called Nusa Kambangan Island. there are 6 prisons. 2 prisons are regular prison, 2 prisons for high risk prisoners, 2 prisons with maximum security system
That's the prison where the two Australians were executed.
This place seems like a five-star hotel compared to the prison in Madagascar.
