Hi Everyone! Just a reminder about the odd blur: On UA-cam, potentially disturbing imagery (guns being pointed at another person, dead bodies, etc.) must be blurred. In our opinion, the trade off for unrestricted access is worth it. In the context of the documentaries, we believe the horrors of war, of gun violence, of killings, are still powerful despite some blurring. We know not everyone is in agreement here - and we totally respect that - but in life, one has to compromise. So it’s the choice of having some blurs but still with all the complete uncensored spoken information versus not showing, for example, a Behind Bars documentary at all. We apologize to those who are frustrated by this measure but we assure you that we only do so in order to comply with UA-cam's moderation guidelines. Free Documentary will always stand for the values of open and accessible information.
My Filipino in-laws help a lot of incarcerated people in Manila. Many truly innocent people are in prison in the Philippines. And many of the police are terribly corrupt. I've met people who were wrongfully accused and incarcerated. The incarcerated can't get a trial until they pay for it themselves. If they are poor, they are just stuck. I am so privileged to be related to my in-laws. They sacrifice their own time and money to serve less-fortunate people.
One thing I always think about while watching these prison documentaries is the risk of fire. Most of the people are locked up at night, in close quarters, and seeing the guards padlock those doors is just scary. The thought of being confined with many others, and the building on fire with poisonous smoke closing in, and all of the doors padlocked is absolutely terrifying. You know most of those guards wouldn't be risking their lives to go unlock the doors either.
Well it looks like you got some dinner work to do then because everyone's programmed it's the societies we live in in the corrupt systems that we live in that make us who we are if we grew up on a planet with a civilization that actually cared about humans instead of profit over people we would be different so don't go get mad at people for doing things whether they know right or wrong except you got some inter work to do
That is where your heart has steered you wrong', one should have compassion before belief or else the truth shall never be seen', God is only present in the light of the world, which is Love'
Its far from justice. Everyone deserves basic human rights. The primary tactic of the whole system is to make an example out of them. Yet the whole system is failing - even if you shot every drug user on sight it wouldnt be deterrent enough to stop others. We've been trying to make people obey the law like this for centuries. Its so far from trying to rehabilate people to get them to be functioning members of The society. One mistake as a 19 year old sentences you to 40 years in a cage without any rights or even hope of returning back to society. And for the innocents - I dont even want to try to quess what percentage of them are not quilty of anything. Dont get me wrong. Youre right - Ive just watched too many documentaries of people handled like cattle left to cope in hell holes in their own feces.
I got to visit this place for a school trip (Catholic school, it was an outreach program.) We had the chance to converse with some of the women, and my classmate had a chat with an older woman (maybe in her late 50s), who was supposedly framed by her drug dealer son and daughter-in-law. She allowed herself to get arrested because she believed her son had more to live for. Her story shattered me to pieces. That was in 2016, I hope she's out now.
I lived in Manila for eleven years. It’s a chaotic country. What sometimes would seem very unorganized to me would actually be a workable system to them. There is only poor and rich. Not really a middle class. All foreigners, like myself, are considered to be rich. So many poor I would see. Everywhere. Yet a lot of them still seemed to be happy. It astounded me. They are a very clean people. For bathing and showering. No matter how poor they were. What really upset me while there was how much corruption there is. The rich don’t really care about the poor. Only about themselves and their families. So much bribery. Police too were involved. Filipinos are generally very nice. Easy to get along. Family is everything to them. Which is common among Asian cultures.

They do NOT produce ANYTHING. They NOW buy licensing rights to air them on their channel and that's it. 2 years ago, I had to shame them on every video they added because they were stealing!! They still persisted until I got in contact with the ACTUAL producer, TONY COMITI of the DICING WITH DEATH series, which Free Documentary still shows called DEADLIEST ROADS. They received a cease and desist from Tony Comiti because of it. Because of my actions these producers are now getting the pay they earned.
When I was little, everything I owned fit in the same size bucket, just like all the other girls in the orphanage in the Philippines. Most kids had a living parent, they just couldn't afford them. My siblings and I were in there because we were being hidden away for a couple of years. We left 2 years after Martial Law fell when I was 8yo and emigrated to the US.
@@lahiru_1.618 I have no idea! I watch these shows and hear the stories......I can't imagine going once, let alone going back. I hated being told what to do, when to do it, curfews and so on when I was growing up so going to prison just isn't for me. I love my freedom and privacy!!!!!
I know someone in this facility. A lot of women are deprive with freedom, overstaying or the paperworks from various government agencies are not moving. Perhaps a future documentary on women who have little time left after leaving CIW either due to sickness or old age. I hope the Philippine government will closely monitor the freedom of the imprisoned.
i believe this is the first prison in documentary thats old and poor but at the same time very organize.. prisoners are clean even with limited resources.. they also have good attitude and helping each other.. it really impress me how good the prisoner are.
I can relate to this video. My Filipino wife is in prison in Cebu City accused of being an accomplice in a murder 12 yrs a go. The document didnt tell you it takes months and years before prisoners can even see a judge for the first time. We got my wife a good lawyer because if you dont the prisoner is helpless to get a fair chance. She has been in jail since last March and will finally see a judge Nov 22.

I am a Christian pastor, we once had a worship service inside the CIW....but some religious organization also have their own religious service once a week. We not only provide spiritual food for the PDL (inmates) but we also bring "pasalubong" (gift) to them like soap, noodles, pen & paper, etc. (but the prison guards will check the pasalubong" first).
This prison lifestyle is unbelievable!! Using water and soap to wipe after the bathroom! And sharing a tiny bed with someone!! How is this prison legal!!!
I feel sad for debie (the south african foreigner). She seems very kind and sincere. As well as she truly feels sorry for what she did but she is willing to fight on and stay positive
In a corrupt world it is essential to be renewed to be saved by God John 8:36 Freedom is the cry of every man and woman, every boy and every girl. And Jesus proclaimed, "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." When one desires victory over sin, anything unChristlike, God will send His Spirit to manifest that victorious life of Jesus in you. Now is the time to get to the root of evil and sin, and to know God intimately every hour of the day, a life of rest and holiness knowing God will make you knew. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here
Where was this kind of system when I was a kid in the Philippines and I was being physically and sexually abused by my dad and cousin, it’s a great country but not the most decent and there still doing old ways. I just hope the system and the whole country will change for the better. So sad to see this I pray for all the people to open up their eyes and mind to have a wisdom and knowledge. Ephesians 6:12
It will not change. Last election was the biggest chance for a change. Nothing. No hope for Filipinos. If you want to be safe in the Philippines, be rich and well connected. There's no justice here.
Prisons in india and Pakistan are like honeymoon spots for rich criminals. You can even fake your medical to go out of prison and sometimes you may leave the country. Best example is Pakistan’s ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif who went out of jail by faking it’s medical and living happily in United Kingdom or England..
Like she said, she is not guilty of the crime she is accused of. I would believe her in those countries. I think she was housekeeper and I think from that somehow she was accused probably falsely.
@@heidilefevre2680 I don't know about that but we had put someone to prison because she intentionally broke the arm of a boy who is the son of one of our house helpers. The woman kept on insisting that the boy was lying and that she was only framed. She kept on crying and even begged us not to but we have a cctv footage of her actually pushing the kid off the railing of the second floor where he landed on his side breaking his arm. The woman was going to pin it on my mother in law because the woman in question is her caretaker. As a matter of fact she is paid better than the other helpers because my sister in law pays for her salary 30k php a month and that's already a lot more than what professionals earn in this country and I think she just wanna lynch off the money and have us pay her for false accusations and that the kid she harmed whom she thought was mentally inept because he got down syndrome but she doesn't realize that even someone like him couldn't recognize the real perpetrator
If you dnotwant to go in jail dnot commit a crime…you know it’s funny some of people in jail they said they are innocent…the question…how about the victim…you abuse….the child you abuse who broke the arms…do you think it is ok…I think what best thing do to you …you broke also you arms and cut your both hands and feet..that’s the best punishment….
when I watched this documentary. I learned something. and everyone should also learn to be good and do good to others. and do not do anything wrong that is against the law. Here I realized more how important freedom is in life. It's so good to be free
It’s a really corrupt system. Even if your neighbor accuses a person of wrongdoing, you can be arrested. Unless you have the finances to pay to go to court, that can take months, and sometimes years to even see a judge to determine if you’re guilty or innocent. Therefore, no matter how good you’re doing does not mean you will not be arrested under these types of laws
There's a lot of Filipino people who work here on the Hopi reservation as nurses and I bet it's a huge stress relief for them because there's hardly anything out here. Very calm and quiet. So I'm sure they love it. They're also working in other hospitals on the Navajo reservation.

I was abused growing up and there's nothing worst than being left feeling isolated and alone by those your meant to trust to look after and protect you.
True but she may not have done it. Poor people don't have legal representation there and it's common to be falsely accused. If she did it, she is in the right place but if not she at least deserves the chance to prove innocence.

Actually the women's correctional is way better than other countries, they are free to walk around, work and buy stuff as if you are in a small town you just follow the rules and you'll be ok. @memyselfandeye76 Here in the Philippines, prisons are called "correction facilities". You do know the difference between a jail vs prison, also between detention/custody vs serving sentence, right? FYI , we have laws that specifically states exactly how long (12 - 36 hours depending on the offense) an offender can be detained/held in custody. Going over the time prescribed by said law, the public official/LEO will be charged with "Arbitrary Detention" and penalized with imprisonment from 6 months to 20 years depending on how long the said illegal detention lasted. BTW, these women are held in [ PRISON ] to serve their sentences after having been tried and convicted for their crimes.
All I can think of is what is going to happen if a fire breaks out at night ? Every door is locked with a padlock and you know the guards will just save themselves.
I'm from the Philippines. My friend tailor is poor and left her job in Paras alteration shop to have her own shop. One day policemen in civilian uniforms with photocopy warrant of arrest came to her and arrested her for a case filed by the said company she formerly worked for. They brought a photocopy of the court order. She never received any notice of hearing or anything from the court. The police said this is probably because she lives in a squatter area which the mail people couldn't bring them to her. So, she left her shop and was brought to prison. To bail her, a lot of policemen and fixers collaborate to extort money from her before they release her bail papers. The poor gets victimized by rich former employers etc and by the police people. She's now out of prison and won her case. Injustice is prevalent, at least in the Philippines. The government knows this but don't prioritize resolution to these injustices. The present president owe the Philippine tax agency and the people of the Philippines billions. He still won and non stop argued and still argues presently that he's not guilty until he's in prison. Well, how can he lose his case now that he's the president. His loyal followers are happy. We, who abhor him, mourn.
And now people are cleansing the Marcos history to make it neat and tidy from the mess it made, truth is Philippines is a a very rich country, a lot of potential to double your money as long as you have the connections by your sides, and to do that you must also keep the other population poor to take advantage in labor cost

I think I think you meant she did it for love? First of all, that man she was involved in didn't love her at all. If someone truly loved someone they would not put them in a position where they could be asked to do a criminal activity with the possibility of them getting caught and ending up in prison for 20 to 40 years. Really if you think about it, that man actually asked her to sin against God, and that's the worst thing a person can do. That's not love. If it took her going to prison to get away from that monster, it is actually a good thing. I'm not seeing her being in prison is wonderful it's not but she seems to a really learned how wrong she really was for going through with such a thing. I pray God will have mercy on her and allow her to have a second chance. I also pray that she will find God and follow him all the days of her life and live for him. Just getting out of prison isn't the answer, but it's turning to God and following his ways and serving him and being close to him for all her paths. The path that she went on was not a path the Lord wanted her to be on, but people are given free choice. What an awful place to be, but that unfortunate circumstance is making her into a better person not that that crime was meant to happen because it wasn't. I just hope that God will grant her a second chance if she'll use it for him
Hi Everyone!
I agree with UA-cam on this
I agree with Free Doc… I personally don’t care for the blurring but is what it is!
"One has to compromise" it's crazy how many people don't realize this
Having to blur out the truth keeps us ignorant of the world and its inhabitants.

I don't feel bad about prisoners who deserved to be inside the jail. I feel bad for those who are wrongfully accused.
@user-lb5fr6nl2v you care so much huh?
Philippines court systems are so corrupt
Your guilty unless you PAY

In a corrupt world it is essential to be renewed to be saved by God
John 8:36 Freedom is the cry of every man and woman, every boy and every girl. And Jesus proclaimed, "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."
When one desires victory over sin, anything unChristlike, God will send His Spirit to manifest that victorious life of Jesus in you. Now is the time to get to the root of evil and sin, and to know God intimately every hour of the day, a life of rest and holiness knowing God will make you knew.

when I watched this documentary.
And the best way to stay out of trouble is to keep God in our lives.
The innocent gets jailed while the guilty is praised in this country.
Liberty is the best thing about this sordid world.

That guard said the prisoners are there not because they are innocent and must face the consequences. Little does she know many prisoners who are in prison are innocent! The girl from SA should have pay attention to her parents advice. Anytime someone is going to introduce you to drugs, using or transporting, you are in bad company. Hope she learn something.

Did you ever get detained during the bullet scam? Only when Duterte became president he put a stop to that bullet scam. I believe he told the prosecutors to take the bullets and let the passengers go. They were locking up innocent people who arrived claiming they had a bullet in their luggage then trying to extort them for hefty amounts of money. If not they were locked up to rot in jail awaiting a trial. I think it's crazy that there is even such a law to lock people up for having a bullet that is useless without a gun.

I think so too, I've watched the documentary on their prisons, it's insane.
That is the worst prison in the world!! I've been in prison in California and as unbelievably dangerous as that was, I'd choose to do a year and risk death every minute of every 24 hours back there than do 1 day in that nightmarish hellhole in Madagascar!
Actually there's a prison in Zimbabwe that's worse than the one in Madagascar
yep, I've yet to see an episode that tops the one they made in Madagascar. Though I have heard that there are even far worse prisons than that in other African countries.
There needs to be a Nigeria episode Nigerian kirikiri prison would give Madagascar a run for its money
This is the best prison, I have seen so far
Did you watch The One with Stacy? Dooley, who came across the pond to check out a women's prison. I believe it was in iowa. It is very luxurious. If you're a well-behaved prisoner in there you have the run of the place. You can pretty much do whatever you want.
I really love free documentaries ❤️
Of course
The basics the prisoner is given is much better as compared to many prisons in the world.
Except the tissue paper. Evrn if i use water to wash i still use tissue to dry my skin. I really hope Philippine prisonas can allow them.
In America prisoners would sue the federal government for not getting toilet paper. AND WIN!!

This series proves that there are fates worse than death.
Death is worse. Death is nothingness. You remember the thoughts and emotions you had before you were born? It was nothingness right? You had no thoughts or emotions or consciousness. That's how death will be.

I live here in the coldest part of the Philippines. I've been to Manila saw different parts of it and I felt like I'm in another world. I wonder why people likes to stay and live there.
I can't imagine having to share my bed with another inmate. I'm surprised they're not rioting everyday because that could definitely do it. I also can't believe there are people in custody without being charged with a crime. The US justice system has its problems, but if you're locked up, at least you'll what you're charged with and you won't have to share your bed with anyone!
if u dont wanna share bed then do everything to get away from doing wrongful things or get out of the place or dont even go near to people where there will be a possibility youll be accused

I doubt that fire will ever break out as the buildings are made of concrete. It's more likely the prisoners die from earthquakes.
Welcome to the Philippines hahahaha
kaya mas talamak na ngayon ang power tripping kasi sa president pa lang no. 1 na
And now people are cleansing the Marcos history to make it neat and tidy from the mess it made, truth is Philippines is a a very rich country, a lot of potential to double your money as long as you have the connections by your sides, and to do that you must also keep the other population poor to take advantage in labor cost

I felt sad for the south african girl so bad, her story is so freakin sad and he actually did it for love :((
I think I think you meant she did it for love? I just hope that God will grant her a second chance if she'll use it for him
doesn't matter. She knew what she was doing...out of love or not
