When he delivered the "So Close" @ 2:39 you could feel not only the pain of the narrator of the story but the pain that the singer himself has without a doubt gone through in his life. It's truly amazing and one of the many reasons this band is so truly magnificent.

Spamming this song for 2-3 months. Found out an old girlfriend I have not seen or heard from in 20 years lost her life to cancer. We were high school sweethearts and together for 5 years. The news hit me really hard and I cant really explain why but it did. But this song helped me a lot. I cried to it and now I listen to it, love it and remember her

I don't particularly like the rascal flatts version with the exception of the young actress in the film clip. She made it. Those gut wrenching screams and crying initially totally makes you feel like it really happened to her and the end when she said "I saw you ".
And a recent fan to state of mine because of their version of the song. Its too bad this lead singer is no longer the one in newer music creations. He has this unique tone and sound to his voice that I love.

I lost my love, my heart ❤, and my best friend about 6 yrs ago to drug abuse and depression. I thought I would be ok and put my best foot forward and listen to my family that I just need to move on if she loved you she wouldn’t had done it if she loved you. I finally realized about a year ago all I was doing was running from my sadness and loss. I miss her everyday and love her til this day. I still see her in little things and our dog when really snuggles tight up beside me. I just wish I would have pushed the mental health issue, maybe she would be here enjoy her new pups being born to our child aka the dog. Our real grandkids and wedding and other amazing things that are coming. I miss my best friend most of all. RIP Heather Hippler I love you and Miss you sweet girl!

I lost my world Oct 19 2017 my 20yr old baby boy passed we had a bond that most parents don't get the chance to have from day 1 it was us against the world he was my reason before him I had none he was my biggest fan as I was his and we lived last 2 yrs apart for first time but I was there every 2 to 3 months or him with me we just got an apartment so I could start living there half the year 2 weeks after me helping him get place together he was gone now I'm just left here wondering how to be the person everyone is just waiting for to come back but he was my world my soul like I said we finally almost had our 2 worlds back together but coolest thing 450 people showed up I stayed by his casket all night alot i knew alot I didn't and I've always been a very very proud momma and he knew it and always knew he was a blessing to this world his smile make anyone just want to be apart of his world but never seen so many people cry teachers kids security teachers from elementary work it was crazy and have to say 1 thing ive done right was him when preacher started to speak at funeral first sentence is when I think of Donny I think cool and that's what I got to be apart of this angels world how lucky and blessed was i for 20 yrs but what am I now sorry for big sad story but barely every listen to music anymore cuz I usually end up crying came across this and yep had to cry and talk and everyone asleep at 338 am thanks for listing

My Roger was 15 in 2004 - he was my son, my SUN- and our story is so like yours, word for word, other than I lost him at an earlier age. Only difference is that I have been carrying this empty place in my heart for 14 years, while yours is still so fresh & raw & God knows, I know your pain. I won't lie and say it ever goes away, but I will tell you that with the passing of time, you will develop scar tissue over your broken heart & grow strong enough to bear it. People are STILL waiting for the person I used to be to come back, honey. But that person, like our boys, well, she lives no more. I listen to music ALL THE TIME - it is the gift that keeps me sane, and lets me go crazy when I need to, without going too far. Bless you. Just remember, God cared enough about you and I to give us the care of two of his most precious angels while they were here on earth, but He needed them back- of course we were not ready to let them go. 15 / 20 years was not enough, but 200 years still would not have been, right? It is gonna be a long, hard road you travel now, but know that it can be done & your Donny would want you to smile- even if it is through your tears and remember how very much he loved you (and always will)

Dude I just discovered this band a few days ago! WOW, they are amazing!
I was in and out of an abusive relationship I just couldn't shake (he wouldn't leave me alone) and then I met the most amazing and incredible man who came into my life out of nowhere, right when I needed him the most! Problem was, the abusive ex came back again, and so instead of risking him going to jail for defending me against that monster and trying to protect me and my kids... I pushed him away. Watching him walk away knowing how much my heart bled for him, destroyed me. Not even 2 months later, he was murdered and my whole universe shattered. I've never forgiven myself for pushing away the best thing that could ever have happened to me and my kids. It's been almost 20 years, and my heart still rips in two every time I hear this song... 💔

I know this song is more of a lost lover song, but it hits different for me, my dad and I were really close when I was younger, and in my teen years we drifted apart. It wasn’t until I was around 27 that we reconciled. Then in 2009-10, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. Easter Sunday of 2012, my dad went to the hospital for the final time. While at the hospital picking up my mom, found out that her brother was murdered. 10 days later on the morning my dad was supposed to come from hospice care, he succumbed to the cancer. This song both by rascal flatts and your band’s cover have helped heal the wound of never getting to say goodbye to either my uncle or my dad. And what I wouldn’t give to hear them say i love you one more time.
