A couple of things: 1990 was our fourteenth premiership, not fifteenth. The first final against Essendon was the Second Semi Final, not the Prelim. Something else worth mentioning: we held our opposition goalless during the last quarter in our last three finals. Not sure if that's a record of some kind. There was a joke going around at the time: Q: Who kicked 5 goals in the 1990 Grand Final. A: Essendon. I must have watched the match hundreds of times. Never gets old.
Once again, a truly well researched and beautifully articulated overview of a very emotional time for quite a number of passionate Pies supporters. Well done!
Another great little infotainment video Anthony. I keep saying this but I really do wonder how you find the time. That 1990 Grand Final is a cherished memory - finally success after years of heartache. Interesting how Gavin Brown got laid out cold but returned in the second half. He wouldn't have been allowed to return under today's rules. Shows how times have changed.
Fantastic vid Anthony. i watched the 1990 GF as a13 year old. Daicos senior had a quiet game but his 2 goals were magic. Kicked 97 goals that year from a forward pocket. Nice to see a young dude like yourself delving into the history of our great club.
@@PiesFooty I remember being little and going to school after we lost the 1979 GF to Carlton and then again in 1980 to Richmond, and Carlton again in 1981 - tough when you're a little kid...then winning in 1990 !!!! and then in 2010 when we drew with the Saints, I was living in London and I flew to Melbourne for the replay. I cried the whole game with happiness!
Kevin Sheedy blew the flag, he wanted the record for most brothers playing in a game so in the final home and away game he rested all his stars to play all 4 Daniher brothers. After the draw with the Eagles we had to play a replay the next week and the Essendon stars found themselves without any match fitness for 3 weeks.
@steve8510 Absolutely correct Steve. I’ve always been of the same opinion but the media have never made the connection. Sheedy took his eye off the main prize to play silly games.
In 1990 I had the greatest day in my life when the pies won the flag and in 1991 I had the worst day in my life when Darren (Pants ) Milanese died in a car accident then had to wait another 20 years for The pies to win the flag again thanks for a great video
Something similar happened in 2001 with Brisbane. They lost to Carlton by 70-80 something points and then didn’t lose again. Lethal doesn’t let his players forget about getting smashed.
Umm, any premiership is amazing but the 1990 season and finals series were out of this world. The past hoodoos, Daicos kicking 97 goals the chance to put the past 32 years behind us. You have to remember the 4 GF losses and the draw were in very recent memory for most supporters. We weren't stacked with absolute top liners, it really was a champion team over a team of champions. The after party of 2010 and 2023 has nothing on 1990; that was insane.
I was at that Hawthorn game as my brothers barrack for the Hawks. I was very relieved when they were knocked out of the finals.
I hear that from a lot of people that they are thankful the Hawks didn’t make it to the pies in a finals match up!
Tears flowed for weeks to come.
Daicosium should be on the periodic table.
GO PIES.

My apologies for those two misreading on my end.
Keeping all opponents scoreless in each of the final quarters is bizarre! Incredible really…

Thanks so much Brashy! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Outstanding...tears here! Go Pies!
Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad you felt the emotions come back!

@@paneuro101 lived through some heartache to deservedly see the other end and 3 premierships!!
Fantastic summary and video highlights!
It was so good I've subscribed.
Thanks David! Welcome to the family mate. I try my best to recapture historic times throughout the pies history 🙏🏽🤝🏽
Reckon I watched road to victory about 600 times as a kid
Me too
Always nice to reminisce, well done Anthony.
Thanks Michael! Glad you enjoyed it.
Peter Daicos needs a statue outside the MCG.
With his sons eventually and Pendles when he retires.

Thanks for that useful bit of information re the Daniher brothers playing in the final game. Appreciate it Steve!
14th flag in 1990, not 15th unfortunately.
I still have 42 on my pies jumpers .Darren milane was such a good player still remember the news that morning was absolutely gutted
Love that man. RIP Pants! Never forgotten

Lethal Leigh by name and trade it seems Harry. One of the all time greatts of our game.
Awesome vid bro 🤟🤟
The first Essendon v Collingwood final wasnt the Prelim, it was the second semi. Great video
My apologies! Thanks mate 🤝🏽🤝🏽
Was the greatest of seasons to watch
How do you compare 1990 to 2023?

was our 14th flag in 1990
I was at this game and cant forget it. All the old doubts came up, to this day Hawthorn trouble us
😅😅😅 thankfully Hawks haven’t had to trouble us in our finals pursuits recently.
Hawthorn regularly had it over the Pies back in those days. Although Hawks fans were just as happy to see the Bombers lose the Grand Final.
Didn’t realise how much of a bogey side the hawks really were for the pies!
@@PiesFooty hawks were everyones bogey side in the 80's
you said 15th flag no it was our 14th flag in 1990 our 13th was in 1958 our 15th was in 2010 our 16th was 2023.
My apologies Matty!
Even back then Hawks was our Bogey Side
They continue to haunt us 😅😅
@@PiesFooty Sadly they do
@@PiesFootyI give you 4 names. Hudson, Moncrieff, Matthews, Dunstall. Their full forwards haunted us for 25 years.
It was their 14th flag not 15th
Let’s go champ 🖤🤍
1990 was our 14th Flag not the 15th
