R.I.P. Mark Adams Slaves bass player...
The album cover was a reenactment of a scene from the 1977 TV series Roots.
The bass line is funky as hell
This joint was like absolute roller skating crack! Anyway, the lead singer was Steve Arlington, who had been the group drummer. Check George Benson’s ‘Give Me
The Night’, produced by Quincy Jones. The bridge to both songs have similar if not the same, bass line.'
Steve Arrington is so underrated. I simply love the brother
Keith Sweat did a remake of this tune in the 90's which was my intro to Slave's music. What stands out for me with Slave's music is the prominent basslines. Super funky.
Notice how Keith Sweat's voice is very similar in tone and cadence to the lead singer of Slave, Steve Arrington? This is probably why K. Sweat did a remake of this song "Just A Touch of Love" in 1996. You can check out his version of the song here: ua-cam.com/video/18BmGa6nksg/v-deo.html
Slave’s female vocalist the gorgeous Starleana Young was the baby sister of the founders of the band (Young & Company” who had a hit called “I Like What You’re Doing To Me”…
As others have said, this song makes me want to lace up my roller skates. Perfect tempo/beat to roller skate to.
Love your channel Young brotha! When I first became a musician at 13, Slave was one of my influential bands. I was 13 when this came out and just started playing, and Mark Adams who was the bass player in Slave was one of my heroes. I love Rock, but I am so glad to see you reacting to funk of my era like Curtis Mayfield, Slave and others. I hope that you do more Curtis Mayfield, Barry White, earth Wind & Fire , and rufus & Chaka Khan. I wish more reaction channels like yours would do 70's Funk because we have a beautiful history in the era which was rich with incredible music that you've never heard before. Keep on with the nice work! Peace
Melvin need to ask you about something. Do they have an instrument where its got both a guitar and a bass in the same body? If not they need to make one.
@@tommtommkin If you mean double neck guitar and bass, then yes, they have had those for years. Sometimes the configuration is Bass and guitar, sometimes it is 6 string and twelve string guitar, or sometimes it is something completely different like 4 string and 8 string basses, but they have them.
@@melvinperry9393 Hum yeah I thought so but I was never sure how that actually came together. Ok tell me if I'm off on this notion but I always thought that the heaviest string or deepest string on a guitar where that sting ended the bass guitar picked up at because that last string on the guitar sounds deep enough to where it almost sounds like what the bass can do am I off on that notion or no? I used to play guitar decades ago but stopped and dont remember a thing about any of it now. But I'm starting to realize that maybe I should have picked up the bass instead all I know is my fingers used to hurt bad and I took lessons for 5 years and they still hurt after those 5 years I still have 3 guitars. The thought of both the guitar and the bass together I like that it must be a heavy thing though to hang on to God Bless those who can do that. :)
@@tommtommkin The strings on a regular 4 string bass are EADG. The strings on a regular 6 string guitar are EADGBE. As you can see, the open notes are the same minus the B however the depth of tonality is different. You can't put a guitar string on a bass because it would sound off, and thin.
You are correct about the weight of the Double neck guitars. A friend of mine had a 6 and 12 and I loved it because I love heavy basses anyway, but yes, they weigh a ton, but the ability to switch off on those tonalities is worth it. Still early enough to learn bass, Never too late.
@@melvinperry9393 I really would love to learn bass. Ah here's something else too... After a while though does that kind of career being a life long musician take a toll on the body? Your ears, the strap on your shoulder ect? I should have continued playing my guitar at times I really do miss it.
One of my favorite 70s bands....they were pre Jack Swing....Keith Sweat took their style and updated it into the 80s....Slave known for their ICONIC bass guitar sound....when you heard that bass you knew it was a Slave song....just like you can tell certain singers by their unique voices you could tell a Slave song by the bass.....GREAT CHOICE
Was better than new jack imho
Love that song. Slave was a great band.
Another fact. They were about 17 and 18 when they did this album!
😮
Another Iconic bass player, Mark Adam's. Lead singer went solo and produced 2 Iconic albums- Steve Arlington. Steve Arlington Hall of Fame. You will love that! Listen to Mark play that bass
Snap shot. Slave. Weak in the Knees Steve Arington. The lead singers Solo effort. One of my all time favorite songs.
There is no bassist today who can match with Mark Adams, and Steve Harrington's vocals are phenomenal because he sings with such passion. Slave was an incredibly talented band that does not get the recognition it deserves.
THIS SONG IS SO DOPE..GLAD YOU REVIEWED IT
HEYYYYY!!!! That's my family 2 cousins in this group. Dayton ohio stand up
Yessir! John H. Patterson H.S. C/o ‘80!
STFU. Bitch, you lyin
Thank them for their contributions to the F.U.N.K!!!
This was a great song to [roller]skate to! You had to be there - neon laces, girls looking all kinds of cute, the steps and routines that were cool and inventive, the mirror ball and the outfits! You had to be there! The magic of the whole experience is unforgettable!
That bass is slappin'!
No slap, low string action and his fingering technique
The bridge part at the end is so damn fire with the background vocals, this song builds up
MA and that bass! Steve with his lead and drums. This incarnation of Slave was 💯percent pure FUNK!
CLASSIC ICONIC JAM!..... DEFINITELY ON THE SOUNDTRACK TO THE BLACK EXPERIENCE ✔️👊🏽✔️
Love that bassline.
All Time Favorite .... Who sampled it: Kris Kross Feat Super Cat on Alright ... De La Soul on Keepin the Faith .. & Keith Sweat did a Remake in 1996
Steve is cold blooded. They are awesome i they're live performances
Slave was hardcore funk! If you like that bass line, check out “Glide” by the group Pleasure.
Love me some Slave. Very underrated group.
I use to rollerskate off this song in high school. Yea
Here is a Few underrated Slave songs Snap Shot , Wait for Me and Steal your heart..
Great band! Also check out Keith Sweat's cover of this song, Aurra (are you single) and deja (serious, you and me tonight).
Slave was known for catchy tunes. Check out their song Slide.
Yes, I love "Slide"!
Keith Sweat took his voice into the 90's
Real Funk 😎😎😎😎😎
Have you done Slide by Slave? This song's real nice but Slide, that track tears the roof off
nope but I will now!
@@JustJammin Keith Sweat remade this track back in n the 90's and it sounds just as nice ..Keith's voice is very similar to Steve Arrington's voice .
My fam!!!! Shots out to Cedale and Sam Carter! Dayton Ohio standup
Iconic song!!!!!
The bass player is amazing
THAT 10,000 SUBS KS COMIN BROTHER!!!!! SO GLAD U STAYED AT IT IM PROUD OF YOU!
You have reacted to alot of the good old school songs..Just a touch of love by Slave is incredible .Check out Keith Sweat remake version of this song ..Keith Sweats voice sounds very similar to Steve Arrington's voice from Slave.
Oh yea, lead singer Steve Arlington is the drummer. Mark Adam's, bassist murder STILL unsolved
It's Arrington not Arlingtpn
If you like Slave you will like Steve Arrington (member of Slave). His group was Steve Arrington's Hall of Fame and I think he sang lead on 'Just a Touch. Check out his songs Spice of Life and Weak at the Knees.
My favorite by Slave. Great cut.
The beginning of Steve Arrington.
Yep yep
Love this song along with “ watching you”
Classic put this on at a old skool party watch people dance until they sweat
A great song from the greatest album. Stone Jam and Showtime was good also.
C&C Music Factory "Just A Touch of Love" for the movie Sister act!
Enjoying your reactions young brother. This jam was a great roller skating hit, loved skating to this one. The bass line was great and the lead singer Steve Arrington was great as well. Yes, he did go solo after this group and had some gems. If you listen to Keith Sweat, who came out in the '80's, you will hear Steve in Keith's vocal, except a little more whinny.
Check out that Phat Bass playing!
This is my jam
The album represent the movie roots .
The genre is FUNK.
I still have this album
These guys were doing this at 16.
Steve Arrington - Sing it big boy!
Jus Jammin jus knows good music when he hears it. Okay.
If you want a real Slave jam review either' Sizzling Hot' or 'Stone Jam' from the Stone Jam album... those are your bangers.
Big fan of band music
