Behind the Scenes - Mortal Kombat 3 [Rare Footage]

- Footage of Mortal Kombat 3 development. Behind the scenes footage with que original actors.
Wikipedia: Mortal Kombat 3 was originally considered to be made using 3D graphics, before reverting to sprite graphics of the previous games. Its overall style was envisioned differently from in the previous Mortal Kombat games. Instead of the heavily-Oriental themes of Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II, the theme of MK3 is more Western-contemporary. The game's stages are set in modern locations (such as urban highways, churches, and bank rooftops), three of the characters are cyborgs, and traditional character designs (such as Sub-Zero's or Kano's) have been dropped or modified in favor of modern replacements. This change is also reflected in the soundtrack, in which all Oriental motifs have been dropped in favor of modern instrumentation.
Some of the characters from previous Mortal Kombat games who returned in Mortal Kombat 3 were portrayed by new actors since their original portrayers left Midway due to royalty disputes over the use of their likenesses in console versions. Ho Sung Pak (Liu Kang in the first two games, as well as Shang Tsung in the first Mortal Kombat), Phillip Ahn (Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat II), Elizabeth Malecki (Sonya Blade), Katalin Zamiar (Kitana/Mileena/Jade) and Daniel Pesina (Johnny Cage and Scorpion/Sub-Zero/Reptile/Smoke/Noob Saibot) were not involved in the production of MK3.
Prior to the release of Mortal Kombat 3, Daniel appeared in an advertisement for another fighting game, BloodStorm, which resulted in a false rumor that it got him fired by Midway. All this led to the use of new actors for Liu Kang (Eddie Wong), Sonya Blade (Kerri Hoskins), Shang Tsung and Sub-Zero (both played by John Turk) in MK3. Richard Divizio (Kano) also took over the role of Noob Saibot (as the character was a recolored Kano in this version). Carlos Pesina, who played Raiden in the first two games, did not appear in MK3 as a penalty for his involvement in the rival game Tattoo Assassins, but was still employed by Midway and his character would return in Mortal Kombat Trilogy, although through the use of recycled sprites from MKII and new sprites performed by Sal Divita.
The game has a different tone overall than its predecessors and uses a noticeably more muted and less-vibrant color palette. Characters were heavily digitized, as opposed to the hybrid digitized/hand-drawn style of MKII. Many of the game's backgrounds were, for the first time, created using pre-rendered 3D graphics.

Yeah baby, good job for *those stunt actors that brought the digitized sprites into life* ya, J. Vinton 😎👍
I will say the MK1 and 2 actors seemed more enthusiastic, though that was probably by design considering MK3’s apocalyptic feel. Or maybe they designed the game around that? I dunno

The original faces of Mortal Kombat. No CGI needed. Most realistic game back then. Since I was little, I always wondered how they put real people into the game.
We see that
They just digitize actual humans and WiFi them into the game like an avatar. If u play too long the avatars get sleepy and u need 2 choose another human WiFi clone. Or something like that.
i mean in the modern MK games they are still real people. or at least very faithfull CGI versions of them.

That was my favorite Jax character model. Tbh I really dislike mk11's jax
@@justjames391 I dislike entire MK11 look and feel, colors are bland (MK3 512 color limitation made it more vibrant), animations are awkward, character shapes make you blink cause it's unrelatable to something real. Everything lacks character and follow a mainstream production framework. You have all sorts of fatalities, but no matter how gory, they manange the extrardinary feat of making them all zero poignant. The music also sucks. MK3 gives you shivers. It's akin to Slipknot composition stlye, it sounds very violent and creepy. Just the selection screen goals immensely. You can't compete with 90's edginess, colors, attitudes and overall vibe at the time that made MK3 possible. I feel MK11 is kind of purposefully watered down not to be shocking while contain what should normally. Point is, you can give people the best ingredients, but if you don't have a genius cook, James Cameron-level, you're gonna make very un-engaging stuff.

When I think back in my childhood I played 4 and 8 byte games that loaded on a tape player.
And how quickly games have evolved over the decades
Thanks, it solved a lot question i had. They did a great job, what a cool way to create realistic characters with little processing power
part of me wants them to go back to this graphical style, i'd be interested in seeing what they could do with it these days. and all of me wants a return to the old school 80's bloodsport music.
Vorador47 it would look extremely choppy and bad, but I agree on the music
@@mero7731 I don't think it would be bad, considering the equipment that they have now. They could have like the same style, but more...graphically better. I think it'd be amazing!!!
Maybe as like it's own little sidegame sure. Wouldn't really understand it as a full title release
spectacular raymond Just listen to Synthwave. Or any of the other waves. My favorite channel for it is Electronic Gems
@@mero7731 Record at 60fps, it would not look choppy at all.
Should've had a movie with these actors and costumes
They had a movie about Mortal Kombat
@@gamingpro-nt2kz he said with these actors and costumes.
porn)
well just because they do all the move, not mean they can act so better not.
Couch Time - Right
Props to Ed actually falling and doing flips himself to demonstrate what they want to see
For how old this game is I'm impressed we have this good of video of this content
They were natural bodybuilders which is even more cooler...
Ye, they looked natural not the big sausages in a net from the last games
How could you know they are natty, you did them blood test yourself ?
thats y shao kahn has gyno lol
Ricardo milos
not all of them, actually. i know John Parrish was one, and i think so was John Turk, but the others i think only had fitness/martial arts instructor credentials (in some cases, clearly more the former than the latter).
Little did these actors know they would make history
The OneReBorne Well i mean this was the third game im pretty sure they knew what they were in for
I think they had a slight clue....😅
They did lol
