I've been doing this for years, Ever since 2002. Long before screen protectors this was my screen protector. Kept my phone protect from scratches and/or cracked screen. Love this technique. 3M book/packaging tape is the best. I buy the wide multi pack of rolls from Sam's club or BJ's club. Only because I use so much when making my own reusable teaching resources.

I use this method before and it definitely worked by preventing additional glass shards from falling out, possibly exposing the screen components my phone gets cracked. One additional tip. After I replaced my old cracked phone with a new one, I immediately put tape on the screen. By using the clear tape before its cracked, it helps to keep your phone scratch-free. Because those disposable screen protector films that come in 2-5 a pack never worked for me. They always came loose, and air bubbles kept seeping through. With this method, the phone is less susceptible to glass cracks from dropping from low heights, and less likely to get scratches. As the tape on the screen dulls simply peel off, clean w/99% isopropyl alcohol, and put on a fresh new layer.
Forgot to mention, it's best to buy the tape from a home improvement store, as they're more likely to have clear tape in various widths.
Question: Won't the cracks continue spreading with this method?
Umer Raja Actually, no, at least for me. I have a huge crack on the middle of my phone where shards of glass were falling out, so as a last resort, I taped it. This method keeps shards of glass from falling out, and so far, the cracks have not escalated.

It is a cheap phone. This disposable mentality needs to change. That being said, if you decide to call it quits make sure it gets recycled!

hey, I have this oldish lg at&t phone from a friend and the inside of the screen is cracked and the screen is black with some coloured lines around the side. it still turns on and I can here the sound it makes when you put a charger in, but I cant see the screen. its really frustrating trying to find a way to fix it. can anyone help?

problem is if you try to peel off the tape to replace it, it pulls pieces of the broken glass out with it!

Ladybug Adventures I tried this once before myself..it's worked great for awhile...but the tape started to peel up after a couple months, and when I tried to replace the tape, the tape actually pulled a couple of small pieces of the broken glass out!

That is a cheap alternative to screen protector. However, when you remove that tape (as it would eventually age), it would be very sticky.

tape should work on any touch screen. If your iPad is newer you might think of a more professional repair. I only did this because this phone was so crappy and old.

Easy step further. Get the Cello tape, apply it over the phone; just like the video had, use a hair drier and dry it will a small heat, it'll be like it had always been there.

first tape then iron it, that will get the tape to melt and fill the cracks then its look like dirty phone because the color diffrence with real glass.
