I always forget how large that palm of yours is until i see the human to palm size comparison lol. Very nice! Can’t wait to see the spring and summer growth
Nice to see that the Mule palm has survived the winter again.💪 Good tricks with the sticks and blankets 👍 It's getting big 🙈 Greetings Dimi from Belgium 🇧🇪
How do you keep it at 20 when it’s 5 outside? Wrapping is good but TN is cold. I m in GA 8a and the TN palm folks i know envy me. Still i m not sure i could keep one alive year after year. I am big on protection too. Thxs
@@tntropics Yes that’s what i was saying, Sabal and saw are my most tender ones. I got 25 years old needles, minors, butia, T. fortunei and wagnerianus, C. humilis. Been doing palms for 25 years. I rarely loose any. But i have been told to not get a mule. To get a hybrid Trachy instead. So still debating!
Toast! No, but it looks like it has some dead area, will be interesting to see how it recovers. I guess this is one of the most temperature sensitive palms that you have.
So you just protect during the cold? It gets rained on and everything else most of the time? I have a super mule in Washington state it's got a 3ft trunk and easy to protect so far. If it gets bigger I'll copy your technique

It will grow fast this year as it's staring out pretty good.

Hard to protect it in back to back negative years.
Excited to have found your videos. Was researching Sabal Palm in 6b (SE KS) and this was insightful. BTW, impressive results!
Cool. I have a whole Sabal playlist you can look at ua-cam.com/play/PLpVDrk5W7jTeHhCY_FYW1VHQbdVkRYwbQ.html
Awesome. Gonna be planting my mule in north Texas soon
That's great. Remember it's a 9a palm

Looks good! Excited to see how much it grows this season!
Should be fine looking by June
Wow. That thing is getting massive. Wonder how much longer it is protectable?

Looks great!
Thanks for taking a look!

The mule palm looks good, the slideshow at the end is amazing! But how old are those Sabal minor at the base?
Thanks, the minors were put out pretty big looking back at pics they were 22" tall in 2020 now about 50"
looks good I’m so it survived
Thanks
Where did you get it from? I want one but I don't find any nursery that ships to switzerland.
I bought on Ebay in 2017
Do you think there will be more offers once the planting season starts?
@@LordFN hard to get them here or the EU. No one can ship from US to there. Look on Facebook groups, etsy or ebay in spring to try your luck
W Hiszpani mają Butiagrus w zeszłym roku mi jedną firma z Polski zalatwiła.
What's the cold tolerance of the Mule palm? Absolute belter you have there! Looking great 👌👌
Around 20F frond damage starts, 10-15F death

@@tntropics I use C9 under frost cloth and tarps.
But Sabal palmetto and Saw palmettos i have are hardier than a mule.
@@vaindioux palmetto and saw palmetto in 8A should be pretty solid most years.

Under 20F for this one. If in the low 20's it might be a good idea to leave center fronds tied.
It’s got massive, doing a great job! Hope mine get this big one day! 🌴☀️
