I'm currently playing the RE3 board game campaign since the beginning of May, and it's a good adaptation of the original video game, with some caveats: Preparing it for the game takes much too long, it also takes up a bit too much space on the table, the door tokens are barely visible on the board, and there is quite little variety in the map tiles (although they certainly look better than those from RE2 BG). As a fan of the series, I would expect these shortcomings to be improved and looking at this new version of the game, i don't know if i will be convinced to like it...
If u have both RE3 and RE2 board games u can combine the tiles for allot more variation in your maps. Says so in the RE3 rulebook. Expensive, yes. But cool? YES. :)
Great review - all of your negatives are valid points, however as a massive fan of the Resident Evil video games I found it quite easy to overlook them all. I love the game, but understand why people wouldn’t.
I enjoyed the first half of the campaign but the second half became a pain in the ass with those door cards that obscure the spawning zones. Having to remove the miniatures to turn the card over really annoyed me lol theme was great but it gets real fiddly in later scenarios. Maybe it’s just me lol, the theme is great but the game wasn’t ‘clean’ enough for me.
I played through and beat the game solo. I agree with pretty much all your criticisms, especially the dark look of the game the rulebook. The game isn't complicated and the rulebook is way too long and also pretty poorly laid out. Setup didn't bother me because I just left this on my table for 6 weeks while I played through the campaign. Teardown was... something though. So many tokens and tiles. I also think the dice for the pistol specifically were pretty unfair, which is maybe my biggest issue with the game. Felt like it should have been a 1/3 chance vs a 1/6 chance, even if one of the hits available were just like, a minor hit that could slow down the zombie (like shooting them in the leg to make running away easier, a VERY common thing to do in the vide games that they could easily implement as a status effect).
I own this plus Zombicide Undead or alive and Zombicide 2nd edition. Res Evil really is nothing like Zombicide. This is more about evading enemies, the six sided die only has a hit on one side, so 1 in 6 chance of hitting. To be honest I regret my purchase as it’s very fiddly in later scenarios with puzzles and adding new tiles, adding cards and removing cards etc the theme is great but the gameplay suffers.
Not sure back then we play re2 board game and just have fun collecting weapons and kill zombies (the card and weapon card, is it re2?) Just play the cards and dice (normal dice) and gacha kill monster or not
its sitting on my shelf waiting to be played. but i have so many games i need to play first. actually iss vanguard and descent. so many great games and so little time to play.

@@Carfilliot yeah that’s fair, I think the theme probably did a lot of the heavy lifting for my enjoyment.

This feels very similar to Zombicide in my opinion, which to me is probably a much better experience based on the design differences.

Sounds like Mansions of Madness II would be a great alternative to this
