- Finnair Trip Report flying from New York to Stockholm onboard one of the Finnair Airbus A330 on a lovely late-spring day.
A very comfortable flight with Finnair from New York JFK to Stockholm onboard one of their Airbus A330-300. However, the main reason why this flight was so comfortable is not that good... The flight was almost empty. We were, again, around 70-80 passengers on a Finnair long-haul flight.
We flew on a Finnair A330-300 that was equipped with the new seats and new entertainment system. There are no doubts that it's a huge improvement compared with the old one. The screen is really big and the brightness is much better. These new seats also feature a support for watching your own tablet.
About the flight itself, we took off from New York JFK around 30 minutes late due to the high traffic volume. It is great to see the airports again at the pre-pandemic levels. After a quick overfly of New York's northern part, we set heading towards the Labrador peninsula, leaving Boston on our right and Ottawa to the left. We finally entered the North-Atlantic ocean at the end of the Labrador peninsula. After 5h of cruising over the North Atlantic, we reached the Norway coast with the Sunrise. 1h later we touch down at Stockholm-Arlanda airport after a nice approach.
One interesting aspect of this flight is that there was no pure night at any moment. It was almost summer in the north hemisphere and we were flying at very high latitude. That means that there is always some Sunlight, no matter what time of the day is. Of course, we had a Sunset and a Sunrise, but between them, we didn't have a completely dark night. It's called Midnight-Sun-
About the catering service on this flight, the only thing I can say is that it was fantastic. Sincerely, it was one of the best I ever had on a plane in terms of taste. The main meal was composed of a cereal salad and the main course of grilled chicken with potatoes and vegetables. OMG, that chicken! It was incredibly tasty! It was so good that I asked for a second row if available. I got it in less than 3 minutes!
The breakfast consisted of a small warm English-type breakfast, with sausage, a french omelet with cheese, potatoes, and mushrooms. Again, a full selection of drinks was available. This time, when they served me the meal they told me they had more, so in case I would be still hungry after it, I just had to call the crew and they would bring me a second one. Truly amazing crew. They were super polite and very friendly. Always with a smile on the face. They made the flight much better.

It was a really nice one! Looking back now, it was extremely comfortable to fly in the post-Corona flights. They were usually maximum at 50% and there were lots of free seats. haha

Los vuelos intercontinentales son cansados pero maravillosos. Como bien dices de Finnair a Asía, fui a Tokio con ellos en 2012 y todo muy bien. A JFK con A.A. en uno de esos gigantescos B777. Fantástico vídeo, me ha impresionado. Saludos.

Me ha gustado mucho el vuelo sobre el Atlántico¡¡¡¡ Es sensacional la "puesta de sol" momentánea y luego la salida de nuevo. Qué vuelo tan bonito y confortable. El catering es muy bueno y abundante. Si voy yo, seguro que el tercero cae, jajajajajajaja. Espectacular el vuelo, Lucas. Da pena que factores exteriores condicionen los vuelos, pero algún día regresarán la normalidad. Un abrazo Lucas¡¡

Flying with AY is always a pleasure, I flew long haul back in 2012 (LHR-HEL-HKG-HEL-LHR) with A330 too, on the return flight HKG-HEL their were only 20-30 pax - a very nice experience!

I enjoyed the flight, thank you for taking us along. The chicken dinner looked tasty, but a Heath bar for dessert made me laugh out loud. (BTW, It has been years since I had one.) On being offered a 3rd dinner it was probably because w/ the light pax load there were several extra meals available. The partial sunset at 13:38--13:42 was neat; it reminded me of pics I have seen of bomb tests.

La última vez que hice un largo radio fue un PARIS-LIMA-LIMA-PARIS CON AF y todo era decente (buena comida y abundante)fue en 2019. Veo que tras la pandemia los servicios han decaído MUCHO sobre todo los desayunos que en algunos casos son insultantes para el precio que se paga aparte de ser casi siempre ahora fríos. Por amigos que tengo la que mas ha decaído en la catering sin duda es Lufthansa. En el caso de este video, creo que el pollo ese es lo mejor que he visto en mi vida como comida de avión, y lo del segundo plato me parece lo máximo :D, creo que el servicio que has tenido es de 9 , no 10 (por el insultante y lamentable "postre"), se agradece desayuno caliente también. Si tengo que viajar desde España a Perú me da que seguiré con Air France
Una pena que Finnair este en las últimas (no creo que vaya a ser posible sostenerse por mucho tiempo), en cuanto al servicio me pareció aceptable, el servicio y los alimentos de las aerolíneas de Europa y América no se caracterizan por ser los mejores, ese desayuno lo mejorcito que he visto, gracias por compartir el vídeo.
İt would be great if you could make a review on Uzbekistan Airways Dreamliner 😊 come to Uzbekistan! To be honest, i wouldn't expect a review saying "wow everything was super", but İ'm sure you would like the service and the meal. And also, one thing really makes me proud is that our Airline had never faced an aircraft accident so far. And this is the main thing what really makes me feel safe during flight 😁
Your drink was vibrating in the same pattern as the engine motion! It seems they needed to update their face mask advice - but they look a great airline to fly and I hope to try them one day
Thanks for the high quaity TR! Yes Finnair will stop the long haul services from Stockholm to JFK LAX MIA, for the winter at least. They will move capacity to the new routes HEL/ARN/CPH to Doha, they start feeding Qatar Airways.

I noticed at 08:18 another Finnair with Marimekko livery taxiing out. Going to Helsinki I presume.
I flew in Jan 2020 from Gdańsk to Hong Kong via Helsinki (ATR + A350) At that time it was average but with nice aspects: new A350, blueberry juice, green leaf team, short travel time, cozy Helsinki airport. On the other hand food service was extremely small and lacking on quality and wine was limited.

Wonderful video! What is the reason Finnair is flying this route? I would expect SAS, but they serve Newark, so maybe they don’t want to duplicate? I don’t know.
Finnair till the begin of 2022 was focused on asian directions over Russia. But once sanctions applied and many asian countries still with entry restrictions they had to redefine the long-haul streategy and network. In Europe they can operate from differrent countries and focused more on America
