I knew that the elephant rifle was going to be powerful but I didn't expect it to damage the pelts of big animals that it killed and when I found out I was disappointed but at least it's ok for pvp

It's useful against the huge legendary animals. The Ghost Bison can take way over 10 normal rifle shots.
Does it do more damage than the rolling block with express rounds tho? Otherwise you might aswell just use a sniper

Hammerless Double Barrel Rifle: The Rifle has hammers but internal, when you open the Rifle to reload it both hammers cock back.
Technically they're just called internal strikers.
In the firearm world they are referred to as Strikerfire and Hammerfire firearms

These guns are known as "stopping rifles" and were really only used when you were being charged by something very large and very angry and you need it dead before it mauls or tramples you. Forgotten weapons has a really good video on one that's chambered for a 4 bore projectile, which for some context sends a one inch in diameter, quarter pound lead ball down range at about 1300 fps.
It’s used to hunt African game. Not just when they’re charging.

There are some interesting videos on that channel.
When shooting large caliber rifles in real life it is definitely easier to absorb recoil while standing. A large caliber rifle in real life can definitely knock you over on your back if you fire it from a crouched, sitting or possibly kneeling position.
Or if you want to dislocate your shoulder, try shooting an elephant rifle prone
Or shoot the Mauser t gewehr and dislocate your shoulder
For this i can vouch. My grandpa had an old 4 gauge winchester and he thought itd be hilarious to let me shoot it. He tried to be very convincing, saying "if ya shoot from a kneeling squat, the low center of gravity'll help ya absorb the kick! and look, the weight of the barrel will keep yer muzzle straight too"

@@JennaH-l1j if you have the access to shoot a dangerous game rifle from a crouched position please post a video 416 Rigby or larger. If I took the muzzle brake off my 50BMG it might be almost equivalent to a 600 nitro mag but I have 1 bad shoulder and do not want to make it 2 bad shoulders.

Either way you’re spending money on them.
Buying the max from the catalog just means you can pick the ammo up from anywhere on the map that have the mail think.
There’s only a few gunsmith where you can get them from.

The appeal of the elephant rifle is that you can reliably put down legendary animals in 2 shots (assuming your don’t miss.) They don’t have a star rating, so it doesn’t matter if you obliterate the pelt on it.
that’s exactly why i use dynamite as a trap, shoot it, and watch the fireworks
I find it extremely useful in pvp. Its a 1 shot kill without tonics, and fast target acquisition while in dead eye. Not to mention the range, which is close to mid. It destroys in pvp.

I’ve found that the Elephant Rifle is fun to use in valentine when griefers raid the town. Every day a new swarm of scum comes in and it’s great for cleanup 🤠

Rafa Oliva doesn’t matter, I used tnt to take out a legendary fox in one hit because they’re usually 5 shots with a sniper and fast as fuck. And the pelt had no rating.

I found it useful for taking out the people with armor in Call to Arms, and as an emergency one shot weapon when a bolt action can't kill something fast enough, though the rifle has the range advantage. Still was happy to buy it and I'm sure there are uses for it I will find later on that don't involve killing things, like with the kinetic recoil; could either save or kill me in certain situations.
Only me or would it be cool if you would be able to have you're camp dog follow you out hunting.and also a system where different dog breeds is better at hunting different animals. If you Think rockstar should add this like this comment...

YES dogs should have stats which are affected based off of the environment. So a husky would be better in the snow, or if they added a pit bull, maybe it would be good in a warmer climate

I love my elephant gun. I bought it when I had a coupon for rifles, and at the time I had more money that I knew what to do with for the first time in game. I found very quickly that you couldn't really hunt anything besides legendary animals with it, but I often do carry it as insurance against bears and cougars when I just want to survive, not preserve them. I treat it largely as an insurance weapon- something for when things get REALLY hairy and I need overkill. That's mostly what it is for me, insurance. It's never my primary weapon or my go-to for combat, it's more like emergency backup for sticky situations and enemies that seem like they have multiple health bars.

i personally think it is a good alternative for the legendary animals as hunting device. Otherwise i don't see myself using it, it destroy or lower the Pelt. I don't play PvP but maybe it is nice if u wanna get Griefer Off U, but honestly i rarly get griefed - but daily portet over the map from Modder (and there is nothing u can do about aside from Lobby Hopp)

HanutaGaming I got the new bow the stats displayed are exactly the same as the normal bow except that apparently it takes les stamina to use when you fire. I’ve heard something about the more you use a weapon the better it gets for you so maybe in time it’ll be better than the regular bow idk

I bought it because it was new, I had the money and because of why the hell not. I can't use it for anything, really. I don't PVP, it destroys the pelts of all the animal I normally hunt. I used it twice to kill the horse of the bounty target, but I could have done that faster with the BA rifle with express rounds.
I would summarize this rifle as "I mean, why the hell not."

Apparently if you buy the buck trinket, it improves the pelt quality when using the elephant rifle.
You can also buy ammo for it in the catalogue.
Love the recoil on this thing. It's replaced my semiauto shotgun for now.

Just wish this thing ragdolled anything it hits, have it more as a ragdoll cannon rather than just a normal rifle, they had this gun in far cry 4 and it would've been way more fun if it shot in a similar way to that

Seen as the elephant rifle is just that, an elephant rifle, I was fully expecting it would ruin any pelt but that’s exactly what I wanted. How can you say no to a rifle so strong it flings you to the ground and so large it almost peaks over your head.
i just bought it to have it, i cant use it for hunting since im going for clean shots and perfect pelts, for pve its ok but depending on how many enemies you have you will eventually run out of ammo in the middle of the battle. but its fun shooting with it so it was a good purchase
You're forgetting the most obvious plus side, It floors Legendaries like they're nothing. Considering how strong Legendaries are, and the fact that you can't auto aim at them, it's pretty hard to hit them 5-8 times with a normal rifle while they're running away, also quality of pelt doesn't matter with Legendaries, so I feel like this is what the gun was designed for. Definitely worth it imo
I’ve tried it with a few legendaries but sometimes they sponge both shots and they’ll escape during the long reload since there’s only 2 shots
@@silentc0re Oh fair enough, I've only found one Legendary so far, I just assumed it would be similar for all of them.
I bought it right away, I've been playing so long I've got every weapon and pairs of every revolver and pistol, not buying it just wasn't an option, I'd lie awake at night sleepless. That being said I'm not terribly impressed with it, you're right, it does seem a bit like a novelty.
I purchased the elephant rifle after getting Naturalist Rank 20. I find it very useful when taking down a legendary animal, but I don’t use it for much more than that.
For the legendary animal mission (from Harriet), where you killing the animal, Elephant rifle is amazing thing, you don't need to bother you ruin the pelt or not. So, this rifle is good for hunting as well.

I really overcompensated for this DLC as everything isn't outrageously priced unlike GTA Online whenever there is something new. You can get everything you want on RDO EZ but when you do you go back to the limbo of "then what" an I ain't hunting as I already spent hundreds of hours into the main game crafting badass outfits for Arthur & John which made me just hate hunting overall. R* really have no idea what their player base wants, I bet next update were just gonna milk cows like in the epilogue and build a house....

Im 34 so I know all about the infamous Elephant gun. It actually became popular after Burt uses one in Tremors. Its a defensive gun used to stop stampeding elephants. Was never designed to hint w. Itll destroy anything you shoot.

You can buy ammo for the elephant rifle from the portable guide and from a regular gunsmith.
I haven't logged in yet, but if the legendary animals work the same way as in single player, the elephant gun will be for legendary hunts only. In SP you can kill a legendary animal with anything, explosives even, and it wont damage the pelt. Hunting legendary's isn't about getting a clean kill for the pelt quality, just the kill/skin and carcass. But I haven't even updated yet soooo wtf do I know
I like the elephant rifle because it looks good on my character’s back and if you really have no patience you can whip it out and just finish off whatever is pissing you off, one downside is that I usually have to keep my sawed off shotgun as my second pistol for all my practical shotgunning needs. Otherwise it’s great.

I figured out about it ruining pelts when I had a perfect moose in my sights
I obliterated a perfect cougar with it from 4ft away. Went to grab it and got killed by a 2nd cougar. But it went from 3 to 1 star

Also you can buy a lot of rounds via the Wheeler, Rawson & Co website, but you can only carry 20 rounds. At least you don’t have to keep going back to Gus.

They need to add a percussion or flintlock musket the upside is it keeps a 3 star pelt anywhere you hit the animal and is very powerful. downside is the reload takes 15 seconds.

It's perfect for two shoting the Grizzly in the On the Hunt mission at Cotorra Springs. I used to use explosive ammo & I think it took 3. This thing will drop it in 2.
I think this gun is best used when being chased by others, as you can just hit their horse and they’re done but you need to reserve the ammo otherwise you’re gonna have a bad time.
This is useful for me as a bounty Hunter, i can use this and its makes 5 Star legendary bounties easier.

Yeah, I now with all the better animals spawns the bears spawn frequently too, so if your hunting I normal bring this to double wak a charging animal
The elephant rifle is perfect against Bears my go to Bear gun and I do like using it in PvP with Paint It Black👍
You would not crouch with something like a 460 nitro express or other "elephant rifle." Standing and leaning into it allows you to ride the recoil, having it be absorbed gradually all the way from your shoulder to your back foot. Your whole body becomes the shock absorber. Crouching removes the entire mechanism which absorbs the recoil and... over you go.

I got it because Ive been saving for the past 200 days lol, I actually reached 200 daily challenge streak on update day, so yes I had some cash and I got it, but its dumb, I mean, yes for precaution you can use it if you are looking for certain animals and a stupid grizzly shows up, but you can use a shotgun and it will do the job. Maybe use it against legendaries is not a bad idea

Its orginal use is for the legendary animals the bore took 4 headshots. The gun itself is the dbshot gun+slugs on steroids it can kill a buffed player with a chest shot and that's wonderful. Range needs to be adjusted tho it's to short.
The elephant rifle might be very useful for legendary animals since legendary animals are always 3 stars as far as I know but I'm not sure if it is still the case in online
