Julie, thanks for the tip regarding using different color Imprimatur. I have always used Burnt Umber or Yellow Ochre. However, your Video demonstration has given me the confidence to try some different color Imprimatur washes. Thanks, cheers Eh👏👍😃

I like white/gesso...I find it unifies the whole painting and generally brings all the colors together... I can mask the canvas or linen and let Mother Nature reflect back up through, (from the while base), my colors and make them all more brilliant and alive. I've seen black toning , black and brown toning, blue, green, brown toning and smoothed with brushes and smoothed with paper towels... and even smoothed with hands. I was trained that white was the best.... I learned in the 70s. My teachers learned in the 30s- 50s. I've tried different colors for toning.....and always returned to WHITE. Everyone is different. Everyone is the same..... Different strokes for different folks. Happy on with you.

You can just rub it in with a piece of t shirt to save dirtying a brush.
