FIRST TIME REACTION: HARRY POTTER and the SORCERER'S STONE (2001) He has his doubts..

- I FINALLY convinced Marc to begin the Harry Potter series, starting naturally with Sorcerer's / Philosopher's Stone. It’s for his own good, of course, since these movies are amazing, but he is not so sure.

It's interesting that when Harry's scar first starts hurting him, when he looks at Snape, Quirrell is turned around right next to Snape. So the one facing Harry at this time was Voldemort.
I've seen this move like 30 times and wow that's a great detail that I've never noticed. It has to be intentional too due to the way it was shot, nice catch
It was always Quirrell whenever his scar hurted
Did anyone else realize that their punishment for spending time with Hagrid…….was to spend time with Hagrid….😅💀.
Also dumbledore says : anyone who does not wish to die a most painful death stay out of the dark forest……also Hagrid : takes the kids into the dark forest…I-
Hahaha for real. The Dark Forest yes I thought about, but you are so right about punishment for being at Hagrid’s Is MORE time with Hagrid. And at night, when they’re supposed to be in bed, which is what they were also being punished for.
The source material is real important
For spending time with hagrid AT NIGHT :D
He said it was the 3rd floor corridor that was out of bounds to those who do not wish to die a most painful death. The dark forest is just out of bounds to students in general.
@@HiThereLindsey Yeah, even for the ones who DO wish to die the most painful death.
when you said "this was 20 years ago" my heart broke just a little haha
Uh YEAH! You and me both! Damn you sands of time!
Cannot WAIT to watch you guys react to the rest of the Harry Potter series!
Thank you so much!! Hopefully watching Chamber on Christmas Day, then uploading early next week. :)
Me too.
I love watching people discover the magic of Harry Potter for the 1st time. Never tire of it. Just warms my soul and heart. This series has been such a big part of my life, giving me joy anew a little magic 🎩. Loved the reaction ❤️
Thank you so so much, Juliana! Chamber coming soon ;)
oops dropped this here.... lol ua-cam.com/video/wcl9j5L3hvs/v-deo.html
I was born in 94. If you remember, for every movie that was released, it got a little darker than the last one.
My age, per movie, suited the age range the movie was targeting.
So those that was parents back then, when they hear it was 20 years ago since first movie, they feel old xD
haha yes!!! I am 17 years older than you, so yeah, it makes me feel old! lol
born 95, same here :)
Remember that Harry was born in 81 🤣
There are many things to like this series for, but I once read an article dealing with the "kids and money" problem shown in the series. Like this: Harry appeared to be rich, but he knows what having nothing is like and had an example of getting everything just by throwing a tantrum (Dudley) in front of him, so he understood that he lacked friends much more than money and is delighted to share treats with them. Ron is from a large family (seven kids), so he often has to wear his brothers' clothes, but has a great bond with them. Hermione is an only child from an average family, and she knows how to use her money well (most often she buys books and gifts for her friends). And Draco is from a rich family, like Harry, but he is used to the thought that being poor is a shame and always shows off that he "can buy anything". Some realistic situations I see here...
Greetings from a Ravenclaw!
Oh wow, that’s a really interesting perspective I had never thought of. Thank you so much for sharing that. And also I love that you’re Ravenclaw! That’s the actual name that I love the most.
If you notice throughout the books, Dumbledore actually exposes Harry to many different people so Harry can see what fame, power, and laziness can do. So he is essentially teaching him from the moment he puts Harry at his aunt and uncles home and all throughout school... It's a very interesting concept honestly...
And greetings from another Ravenclaw!
@@amberhoward7807 Yes, it is. And that's what makes it a good thing (apart from all other things): teaching without lecturing, so to say
@@amberhoward7807 Learning, wit, wisdom!
I LOVE YOU GUYS' BANTER
"Remember the scarf you got me? They're those colors?"
"Yeah, the one you never wear?"
"It's 80 degrees-"
"The only problem is, I can't remember what is is I've forgotten."
Umm, Neville, your robes........
Hahahaha
"Swish and flick"
"Bend and snap!"
ahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why didn't I think of this? That was awesome!
Hahaha right?? I hadn’t either until watching this time. Thank you so much for checking out our video :)
Interesting comment about the rug. Ever since I was a child I've tended to notice furnishings in TV shows and movies. I'm fond of the Gothic cabinet seen in the girl's bathroom with the troll. It makes more appearances in other places in the series, at least once painted green, but sometimes unpainted. It makes it's final appearance in the boathouse in the last movie.
Thank you SO MUCH for this feedback! I love these kinds of comments because I likely would not have noticed the cabinet before, but now I will probably catch it every time I watch.
Right when the movie starts and he is like "is that the sorcerer's stone?" I lost it! 😂😂😂😂 That was so cute!
Haha I was like, Easy child, settle in.. you got a long way to go.
Awwww! First off - you both are adorable LOL. Second - I’m so glad you’re watching these! Harry Potter holds such a special place in my heart! ❤️
Thanks!! I LOVE the Harry Potter series. Haven’t seen it in a while, he’s never seen it, and it gives me a way to justify paying for Peacock lol. So glad you like this one too. :)
@@DavidvsFilm that’s exactly why I got peacock lol Harry Potter…which I’ve also seen a million times 😅
one of my favorite little details in the books is that after harry catches the remembrall, and mcgonagall takes him away, he thinks "wood" is a stick she's going to beat the crap out of him with. his state of mind is really interesting, and we don't really get as much of it in the films.
Haha that’s hilarious!
3:17 "Is that a Light saber?"
No It's a Light SAVER.. Thank you, I'll see my way out
Lol!! So simple, yet genius. Nailed it.
@@DavidvsFilm can't wait to see the reaction to the rest of the series.
Neville forgot his robes, look at his clothes vs those around
So true!! This is one of those things I have never noticed even though I've watched it so many times. Great observation.
The protection from his mother was extended via petunia. Thats the only reason Albus left him at privet drive.
Well obviously he can't know that yet.
@@user-pt5cl2ro6f I mean.... Yes he can because I told him 😐. Nothing I wrote implies that I expect him to know that.
:)
"What could it be? Is it curtain rods?!" Lmfao! Brilliant commentary
"So obviously we're very pro-Gryffindor"
"Why? Because they're gingers?"
"NO!"
🤣🤣🤣
It wasn't the producers that called it Sorcerer's Stone. It was the book publishers who decided that American kids wouldn't understand the philosopher part.
Ahhh thank you! I knew it was something like that. I think I also remember reading that was one of JK Rowing’s regrets, that she didn’t push harder to keep Philosopher’s. And also to agree with their insistence that she go by her initials, bc they thought boys wouldn’t read the books otherwise.
I personally call it the Magic Man's Stone because i can't remember wich one it it🤣
It's really refreshing to see people say that the special effects are good. I've seen so many reactors say that the effects (or similar quality effects in other media) are terrible, and it honestly kind of baffles me. It feels like so many people are ultra nitpicky about CGI to the point where anything worse than the absolute best possible for today's technology takes them out of the experience, and they can't appreciate or enjoy it.
Thanks Peter! Yeah, I completely agree. I try to have an appreciation for the technology and effects, especially considering the time period of each film I see. I recently watched Alien and Aliens, and in both I was thoroughly impressed with the mixture of actual props and lighting plus sound to create an incredibly intense atmosphere. I respect CGI as well, but I mean the things filmmakers have done over the years is extraordinary.
Recipe for Butterbeer:
2 Liter Cream Soda
3 Tbsp Butter Extract
2 Tsp Rum Extract
Creamy Topping
1 cup Whipping Cream
7oz jar. Marshmallow Cream
Combine both the whipping cream and marshmallow cream with a mixer until silky smooth.
Pour the Butterbeer into a glass and drizzle with the cream topping.
Enjoy
Omg this is amazing!!! Thank you, Michelle!!!!!! I'm sure this will be more of a treat than his Miller Lite lol
"Once the foods out they all show up.... especially that one." Lmfaoooooooo
YES! Warwick Davis, "Griphook"... played the title character in "Leprechaun" - an old film..
He also played the title character in "Willow"
..both great movies
Ohhhh yes! I totally remember that. Fun fact- I looked up his net worth, and he's at $10 million. So good job saving that Willow money, Warwick!
@@DavidvsFilm I believe he got his big break in Star Wars...
You're telling me those kids were actually drinking Miller Lite?!?!?! 😲 Haven't seen this in years. Alas, I was the Hermione type in school, so she has a place in my heart. We both managed to grow out of it a little and make some true friends.
Yes!! Not many people know that. In fact, much like Philosopher’s Stone vs. Sorcerer’s Stone, Butterbeer is actually Miller Lite in the U.S., because U.S. school kids are more familiar with Miller. lol
This was fun to watch. I really enjoyed your energy and both of your little funny comments and movie references. I really hope we get to see his reaction to all the movies!
What a great comment! Thank you so much. Means more than you know :)

When they find the unicorn blood in the woods…”drag queens have been here!” 🤣☠️ I just recently found you guys while binging Hunger Games reactions, and honestly y’all are the best. You play off each other so well, the snarky commentary is top notch
It wasn't the producers who insisted it be called Sorcerer's Stone. It was the American publisher who wanted the title changed so that is the title of the first book in America.
Thank you so much for clarifying that, Jain! That was a mis-remember on my part. :)
It was scholastic, the publishing house who thought American kids wouldn't understand the word "philosopher" which is why they changed it
fun fact the mirror of erised backwards is desire (get it, cuz it's a mirror image) lol
Marc should take the sorting quiz on pottermore! i've been looking for a fellow slytherin
OH. MY. GOD. Ok, now I feel like a COMPLETE idiot!! I have even read the book (albeit a while back), so I've SEEN the word and did not even catch this!! Thank you so much for sharing, Salem. This blows my mind.
Y'all have amazing chemistry, it's so fun to watch
Something many miss is that there were 2 potential "chosen ones". Harry and Neville. Voldemort chooses Harry by going after him. So keep an eye on Neville through the movies, he is special. Beginning here where, among other things, his points win Gryffindor the house cup.
Holy crap I never realized that! Thanks for sharing. I’ll definitely watch him more closely this go around than I have in the past.
Yeah, and it is very sad, that they did not show it in the movies at all
@@DavidvsFilm The books go into more detail about it, but yes. 😊
Yeah I always loved that fact. That's why the prophecy stated "and the Dark Lord shall mark him as his equal" He marked his own nemesis. I believe he went after Harry over Neville because Harry was half-blood like him rather than pure blood Neville.
But voldemord would have killed Neville! The love protection from Lilly only "worked" because Voldemord told her to step aside. He didnt wanted to kill her (SPOILER: because snape begged him not to and voldi agreed). Nevilles mother or father wouldnt have gotten the chance to survive.
I love your transparency about what has been seen previously and what is new 😊
Thank you!! I wish I had not seen some stuff haha.
I've seen and read the series a concerning amount of times and seen so many reactions but your comments and jokes were so funny 😂 I haven't heard any of them before! Subscribed and so excited to see the journey! Great job🤣
That is TOO NICE! Thank you so much. Chamber coming as soon as I can edit it- hopefully New Year’s Day.
OMG! I'm so happy to have found you guys. You're one of my new favorite reactors.
Thank you so much!!! :)
Good to see both of you. Missed your faces. I'm like your hubby, never watched the series. My kids were very into the books/movies. Did the whole "costume up and stand in line awaiting the book release" thing, so I get the fandom around it. My son talked me into watching a few of them (with Rifftax), with him. (My daughter passed in 2020 and we always had family movie night each week, so he wanted to do some shows he knew she'd have loved.) Having Marc there, you got to experience what we do, when we've seen the show you're doing a first time reaction to. (Remember, don't quote the line before the guy in the movie does. lol) I can't complain about the HP series because it's well made, and I love fantasy, but for some reason, they didn't draw me in. It was fun watching it this way, with both of you, because it made the movie much shorter, plus I felt like Marc was my guy at that table. (wink) love you, David! (hug & a wink) Hi, Marc! (Oh, just occurred to me, you should watch some Xmas scary films. Everybody's doing "Home Alone" or "It's A Wonderful" but I don't see a lot of "Silent Night, Deadly Night" or "Krampus" or "Black Christmas.")
I love your comments, Teddi, thank you so much as usual! And my sincere condolences about your daughter. I am so, so sorry to hear that, and I can’t even imagine.
Regarding Christmas movies, you will be happy to know that I am editing Krampus as we speak ;) Watched it last night and loved. Probably be posting on Wednesday.

Thank you so much! Heck yes! Chamber coming soon..
I totally forgot the snake winks! Lol! That’s so ridiculous, they don’t even have eyelids! 😂
Instead they have a clear scale that protects their eyes. When they shed, they’ll begin to look more pale and their eyes turn a cloudy blue. Then when they shed, even the scale on their eyes comes off with the rest of the shed!
That constant stare of theirs is one reason snakes unnerve people. That and they’re not very expressive and can be hard to read. 😄
Oh my God that's hilarious!! I hadn't even thought of that, but you are so right.
New subscriber here I've watched your Steel Magnolias and Shawshank Redeption you both are so chill and entertaining so I had to do the Harry Potter with you 😊
I am an olllllld woman. When I heard of this series, I had no interest whatsoever. I was recording a lot from movie channels, because I intended to be ditching my cable. I was frequently recording stuff as I slept, popping in a blank vhs tape and just letting it run. I had this movie for two years before I checked the tape. I decided since I had it, I would see if it was worth keeping. By then, my daughter was four. She instantly became a fan. My attitude was, well, that was cute. Maybe I should check whether I got any of the others. I did get the second one, as it turns out.
That advanced the fun level. I decided they were worth having. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to pop in the head cleaner, so my copies were bad. Each time I bought a copy, I insisted we watch the previous ones in order first. I have now watched the whole set several times.
Funny thing to do, watch the whole set, then go back and watch this one again. You will be stunned by how young they suddenly are.
What a great story- thanks for sharing Violet! And I completely agree- they're like babies upon rewatching!
This popped up in my feed. I subbed, now to watch your other vids.

Right??? It didn't hit me either until right in that moment, actually. This is why I love re-watching movies- I always either catch or think of things I haven't before. Thank you, Brian!!
Scary crazy fun fact: there actually was a man that was born with a second face on the back of his head. He would say that the face would speak to him and say very disturbing things. There's a vid on UA-cam about him:)

More of these please. I subscribed to watch them!
Thank you so so much, Starla!! Trying to get Chamber edited and posted by New Year’s Day. :)
It's not true that the U.S. version is the only version that uses something other than "philosopher". The Korean and French versions, for instance, translate to "wizard's stone", the Japanese translates to "sage's stone", the Chinese is "magic stone". It is true that publishers didn't think the American audience would be (as) interested if it used "philosopher" instead of "wizard" and they were probably right: a minor, inconsequential change for better marketing payoff.
I had no idea!!! Thank you so much, Haylla2008!
The Sorcerer's / Philosopher's Stone ...US / Uk started with the books. Loved watching this with you guys!
Thank you, Victoria!
I still remember watching this for the first time and wish I could go to Hogwarts lol. Such a magical world these characters live in, and as a former practicing Wicca glad to see a positive note put on witchcraft and wizardry even though religious families and organization still protest this book and film series. My son has just started to get into these and its like rediscovering the magic (no pun intended) once again. And I am also glad the magic is still among fans. While I can't speak for my son right now, I can say that his mother and I are still proud Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws respectively lol. Once again you guys were great.
Thank you so much! If you haven’t already been, I highly recommend going to the Harry Potter World in Universal Studios in Florida. It’s just insane what they’ve done there. Hi David!
I'm a new subscriber, I first saw your Alien and Aliens reactions and all today I have been binging your reactions on UA-cam. (Even to the silly American version of The Descent that just leaves off the end of the movie!) and have been very impressed by your reacting style.
I first saw this movie at a premiere in New Zealand to which my flatmates had scored free tickets and dragged me along. I was 25 and I had literally never heard of Harry Potter and had no idea why there were so many excited kids dressed up in robes present. This was not the sort of movie I would have paid money to see but it did make enough of an impression that I saw the later movies as they came out.
Thank you so much, Michael!! I really appreciate the kind words. I'd still say I'm definitely newish to this and learning, so forgive any hiccup moments in the reactions haha.
I had NO IDEA about the different versions of The Descent (or different versions of some of the other movies, also), so you'll have to let me know if there are other versions of future movies you think I should watch. Speaking of future movies to watch, and tying in New Zealand, Lord of the Rings is a series that I never saw but would like to start in 2022. I don't know much about the story (besides the major plot points that I've heard over the years), but the scenery is just amazing. What are your thoughts and that one?
With Harry Potter- you and I are the same age, and my experience sounds very similar to yours. I had heard of Harry Potter, but I thought it was just kids books, same as I had heard of Clifford and the Paddington Bear haha. But when Harry Potter advertisements showed up on the side of Coca Cola bottles, I was like, "Ok maybe this is something.." Then I became a fan :)
@@DavidvsFilm Oh wow, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to mislead you, The Descent is not different movies in different regions but outside the US the film lasts about a minute longer. It makes it clear that Sarah is still experiencing hallucinations and that she was not conveniently right at an exit to the surface at the end. After she freaks out at the appearance of Juno in her car it becomes clear that she has lost her grip on sanity, that she is still trapped far below ground and she is experiencing a different reality. The end is on UA-cam here:

What are my thoughts on your reacting to LOTR? ALL THE YES!!! I have been a Tolkien nerd since childhood. In primary (elementary) school I bought a copy of The Hobbit from my school book club, and was addicted at once. It's still my favourite ever children's book. When I was 11 I bought a single volume LOTR paperback edition that lasted me through a decade and a half of re reads. As a pre teen I was seduced into table top RPGs through the medium of Dungeons & Dragons (which owes a lot to LOTR.) I basically self identified as a nerd all through High School. As I reached my teens I began becoming low key a movie geek as well. I became a fan of Peter Jackson's early zero budget comedy/horror movies and recognised his genius. On the day I heard that Jackson was filming LOTR and had somehow convinced someone to give him an epic Hollywood budget for it, I literally danced a jig. (I can't dance.) I'm sure you know that Tolkien was a philologist and his hobby was inventing languages. His languages evolved with their own history to the point he needed to write an epic fantastical history to support them. He wrote them as if they were the non existent English mythology he dreamed of. In doing so he created the modern fantasy genre.
Sadly, the none of the movies were filmed close to my city and my half hearted interest in being an extra petered out. You are right about NZ's scenic qualities however, it is probably the most landform diverse country in the world. Wherever you are, there is a spectacular view. If you travel for 20 minutes, there is an even more spectacular view. We have everything from rainforest to desert, glaciers to fjords. My own hometown is the support base for the New Zealand and American Antarctic bases. Peter Jackson spent a couple of years scouting locations by helicopter before filming started on LOTR. For some of his larger locations to get a lived in look, he had teams of gardeners plant crops and flowers a couple of years in advance. For the first time in history Jackson filmed all the parts of an epic trilogy together, with the cast assembled for over a year. I realise I'm fanboy frothing but I want you to understand what cinematic masterpieces we are talking about here! So, yes I thoroughly recommend these movies! Watch the extended editions, not the theatrical releases.
This was one of if not THE best comments I’ve ever read. Thank you so much for sharing, and you definitely convinced me to watch, to say the least! I literally laughed out loud at your “I can’t dance” (me either) and your “ALL THE YES!” I actually did not know the majority of the info you shared, but I read every word. Honestly, Michael, again- thank you so, so much. Have a great rest of the week and holiday!!!

Watching your cup apparate around the table was fun.
Lol! Crazy how that happens, right?
If Snape asked me those questions first day in class my smart mouth would have gotten me in big trouble. I'd have popped off with "I don't know. Aren't you paid to teach me that?"
Of course I would have already read the school book cover to cover. I just wouldn't have been raising my hand like Hermione. I only spoke in class if asked a question.
You sound just like me haha
I would have pointed out that I was listening and taking note
So you would have had a reaction closer to Harry does in the book. Where he says Hermione seems to have the answer, why don't you ask her.
I read this fan fiction once called: The Cullens go to Hogwarts its based off Goblet of Fire and Snape does the same thing to Edward asks him a bunch of questions to test his photographic memory and see how far he read the school books. IDK why your comment reminded me of this when I don't even like twilight anymore

@@joncorey3641 Yeah I could probably talk him into that! He’s seen the first one, but I don’t remember if he watched the others (and even if he did, he would have been on his phone during most of it lol). I also like the idea of a rewatch list. Thanks so much, Jon! This would be great after Potter.
Just subscribed to watch you both react to these movies!!!!
Thanks Nicholas!!! That is so great. We plan to watch them all, and I am also watching Lord of the Rings on my own concurrently. Let me know if there are any others you recommend!
Well damn now i have to subscribe to see more 😛😤
We will do our best to make it worth your click!!! :) Thanks, Majed!
Wish you guys best luck i love harry potter and this was nostalgic and the reaction along with your humor and personality was great ..regards and love from syria #always
Love your references to other movies like Legally Blonde and The Goonies.
Thanks!! :)
Great reaction n now I'm a subscriber
That is music to my ears!! Thank you so much, urban ink! Chamber of Secrets will be coming up soon. Have a great holiday-
I think you mean you've watched it for the 525,600th time ;-) Great reaction!
Thank you!!
Welcome to the club! I think you will enjoy all the movies. (If you're ever interested in more, I highly recommend the audio books, btw. 😉) Magic is a way of life!
I hadn’t even thought of the audiobooks! Great suggestion. I haven’t seen the fantastic beasts movies, so that’s what’s next for either just me or both of us after this is done. ;)
Harry Potters scar is like an arthritic knee
But I mean, isn't it though? ;) Hope you have a great rest of the weekend, and thank you for checking out the video!
Since you love Maggie Smith, I highly recommend a film called Hot Millions. Its got a VERY young Maggie Smith.
Cool! Thanks Steve, I don’t think I’ve heard of that one. Appreciate it
It's not about her having to be perfect it's more about her wanting to fit in, her situation is explained in the second movie but it's not about being perfect she just likes being smart yes she's well read and well studied but there is a reason behind her pushing so hard for Hermione
I'm 12 minutes into this video and I've only just realised I own that red 9 and 3/4 shirt.
Clearly you have good taste. :)
Great vid man, just watched it, but didn't know until now you have already seen Harry Potter that many times, :( was hoping for your first time reaction, but it's cool your as big as a Potterhead as me, I have literally read all 7 books about 6 times each and watched all 8 movies about 15 times, if u count watching other people's reactions about 60 times LOL. My Nieces just went to Universal Studios to Harry Potter Land lol this summer :)
Thanks buddy! Ok well, here's the deal- you may KIND OF get some good 1st time out of me. Marc has seen none of them (going into it) and knows very little. I have seen the first 2 films countless times, because USUALLY I start a marathon but always fall off lol. So Azkaban and Goblet I've seen a couple of times, but Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows just once. Books-wise, I've read up through Goblet and nothing after that. So I'm not as awesome of a Potterhead as you, but that means that you will probably get a few honest surprises out of me on things I've forgotten ;)
"why cause they're gingers?" LMFAO
In classical heroic storytelling, a descent into the underworld (whether literal or figurative) has been a convention since time immemorial. The Witch’s Castle in Wizard of Oz, the Death Star in Star Wars, The Mines of Moria from Lord of the Rings are just three examples in more modern storytelling. In the Ancient Greek story of Orpheus and Eurydice, Orpheus has to go to the underworld to try and get Eurydice back. He had to get past Cerberus, the three headed dog, and dies so by playing music to lull him to sleep. In this story, the author replicates the scenario for Harry’s heroic descent into the “underworld” of the third floor.
Great, great info Nick! Thank you so much. Very true.
I literally sat here and finished all the parts you skipped 🤣🤣
Omg I can’t imagine watching hp and not have read the books first
I will say it definitely helped me with names at first, seeing them spelled out :)
"a witch and a bitch" LOL😂
Will you be reacting to the rest of the HP movies ?
God willing! I’m trying to convince Marc to watch with me because I love them. And I think it’s a more interesting video with first time reactions. ;)
Vault 832 and Vault 281 also broke in
Hahahaha
I too have watched Harry Potter 5,368 times.
Yeah, so you know, a few.. lol. Thank you so much for commenting, Naj!
So this was on my recommend. Not mad at it.
Thanks, Daniel!! I appreciate it!
