It won't be around once the novelty wears off. A whole Harry Potter merch store doesnt seem to have much longevity in the bigger picture.
Merchandise plays a big part- you see merchandise everywhere. When you see a Harry Potter shirt or something at every clothes store you go to, you remember the books and movies and the more you see the merchandise the more you keep it in your mind and the series stays alive. Which is why they have this store, because merchandise is what keeps the franchise going

As a Ravenclaw, I'm loving that I am finally starting to see some blue and bronze things appear! I like the blue and silver of the movies but I adore the blue and bronze of the books.

Yeah. He got me excited for a moment. My favorite merch is 9 3/4 because only potterheads know it, and it's not cringey looking. I thought there was going to be more subtle merch, but yeah, it all screamed Harry Potter lol.

This place honestly looks amazing... But the big 'oof' that stood out to me was the price of the varsity jackets... $150 USD?
As an Aussie, that's $193.95 AUD here... I have never in my lifetime seen a varsity jacket almost $200... Theming or not, that's a 'little' overpriced.
Otherwise, awesome store; would be cool to see myself one day.

I’m with you. I had one “varisity” type jacket, in my life, and didn’t get it until I could get it through an “owner friend” so it was $100. Since it was cut off of me following a car accident, it’s very hard to justify ever spending that much on a jacket, again! 😂
Varsity jackets are more of an American thing, so it would be more expensive in America. Plus they lose their appeal if everyone has one

I’m at Universal Studios and have the full Slytherin school uniform the robe by itself was massively expensive. The cardigan alone was $90 so it adds up.
If only j.k. Rowling knew what her book was gonna become when she wrote the 1st one.

YEAH! I mean, if she had, maybe she'd have spent more time figuring out the rules and intricacies! She contradicts herself A LOT and that makes it hard to know what the rules and knowns are. And I'm setting up my Drakonian Trilogy with that in mind. Every rule about WHY something works the way it does, of WHY Josie feels the way she feels, and HOW EXACTLY things happened to get to this EXACT POINT IN TIME with all of the players in their own situations and with their feelings is explained in my notes which I continuously refer back to from month to month to keep it straight. And I've been working on this series for 9 years now....there's a lot...
@@melissanichols2563 that very smart. People like to go back and pick apart the rules because they are so invested in the series.
I love it, my parents will sometimes go in depth and ask me questions that are fun to answer. It requires me to really know my detailed HP knowledge.
Another book series I read is a GREAT example of how to set up a universe I great detail.
Read patricia briggs book series if u want an FANTASTIC example of how to do exactly what you're referring to
@@melissanichols2563 yeah as a writer myself, I have decided to write my entire series before even trying to get the first book published. That way you can really go back and make sure that everything flows and links together perfectly. Hindsight is a marvellous tool and often if you just “go with the flow” thing will start to contradict themselves.

As for me I’ve got almost all of the first book planned and I’ve got rough ideas for the second and third books, and I’ll fill in plot holes as the series progresses or maybe I’ll leave some open for another trilogy in the same world or something. But you can bet everything’s gonna flow and be deliberate once I decide on a path!
As someone in a wheelchair, I’m very excited to see that they even included the elevators within the theming!

Absolutely elevators are always just plain white or plain gray and they just take you out of the experience especially at Disney. They are always so clean and crisp and they feel like an underground factory when you’re experiencing the little mermaid

The problem with Harry Potter is that its story focuses too much on Gryffindor and Slytherin. I would love to see more of all four houses competing with each other
Yeah, we barely saw any Hufflepuffs beyond Cedric. The only prominent Ravenclaw was Luna Abe to a lesser extent Cho.

I was in NYC yesterday you have to make reservations folks that were waiting at 7am didn't get in store till 7pm!!! those were folks with tickets no thank you I'm not waiting from 4 am outside in NYC till 7at night !!!

The elevator has to be my favorite thing In the whole store!!! The quidditch mural on the ceiling was a close second, but the elevator is so cool!!!

It’s things like these that really make me want to read the book more, tell me how I’ve never read any of the harry potter books, but I completely geeked out at Universal Studios in Orlando simply because I have friends who are potter heads 💀😭 I plan on reading the books this year & becoming a potter head ⚡️
I love that the carved Hogwarts crest on the wall has the proper eagle on it! A pity most of the merch for sale seems to have the wrong House mascot and colors. I had such high hopes that at least a *few* of the items here would be something a *book* fan could buy...it's an *eagle* and blue and *bronze* ! I would buy *so* much merch if I could get my proper House colors and mascot!

Thanks for doing a walkthrough. You did an awesome job in showcasing what the store has to offer, and thanks for stating the prices of items too. I loved all the interactive stuff. The pensieve wand was so cool, especially with the part when you hold onto both Harry's and Voldemort's wands! I was also blown away by the elevators and the floo network!! Amazing. It would be a dream to come to this store. I don't even need to buy anything to be happy because the store itself is such a fun experience, but of course, how can one not be tempted to buy something, lol.
I feel like if you ever make any merch of your own a good phrase for it would be “Magic happens when you least expect it”

Wow! I spotted some items that have been discontinued from Universal Studios Orlando site, Pottery Barn Teen and Lounge Fly!😍 But I haven't seen them on the Harry Potter NYC shop site, so maybe they have become in-store exclusives for them🤔 hmm. I hope they get added on their site🤞

As someone who deals with product-making, those sets and props are so beautiful! It's always a dream of mine to work with the props department of HP! I hope the covid situation goes away soon because I cannot wait to travel the world again! This stop will definitely be on my bucket list! Thank you for doing this tour! Really appreciate it so much~
Since I saw the prices, I expect gold flakes on every item there.
I don't know, I visited the HP store in London and wasn't that impressed. A lot of independent artisans make better HP inspired stuff (hand turned wands, toys, candies, clothes) that you can get at Wizarding festivals and on etsy that are higher quality than the officially licensed merchandise. It just lacks character for me. Like I'm not jumping up and down about any of this stuff. The experience of visiting the store looks pretty cool though. It's worth it just to ride the floo network elevator.
Yeah, it would be nice if at least *some* of the official merch got the Ravenclaw mascot and House colors right, too! It's almost like they *want* book fans to go unofficial!
I was thinking the same thing. The store decor is amazing with all its theming. But everything i have seen so far is for fans not for us who want to feel and be apart of the magic. Like were are the displays for Nobel Collection? And like you said get some independent creators in there to show off there talent like Danny DIY and others that can make legit prop replicas!!!! Give us more magic. They went far but for us HP fans its not far enough we want to step into the books and movies. Not just see them but experience them.
@@jessicaravenqueen768 Trouble is, they're too big and obvious, they can't get away with selling unofficial stuff without adding hefty licensing fees, which would jack up the price. Small fry on Etsy can get away with it because TPTB can pretend they don't know about them.
The Harry Potter store is not far from me, so I briefly checked it out. The items seem cheaply made and obscenely overpriced. Yes, it’s an interesting store and fun to check out, but a lot of the “collector items” seem pretty throw-away and something that will be gathering dust.
I love the design of the store, there's so much to look at.

I used to work for Warner Bros Studio Stores many years ago, and when they first got the licence for Harry Potter, the products were much more reasonably priced! I think over the years WB have got a little greedy with their pricing - they’ll come with with some excuse as to why some products are priced that way, but $12 for a keyring, $70+ for a spirit jersey and $30 for a tee is ridiculous!

Yes! I'm in a tiny place, half-kitchen, half bedroom/living room. I watch House Hunters International and think, "I could rent a house over there for less money!" But it is completely worth it! NYC is the best
Well if you look for houses in Manhattan you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Get a house in Brooklyn. It’s a lot cheaper and you can just take the subway.
@@tinyylasagna1569 I know from living in Boston that I usually stay right in my neighborhood! So if I lived in Brooklyn (which is a great place) I wouldn't walk around midtown, etc very much. For me it's worth it to pay more
@@lazyhomebody1356 I totally get ur point of view but like if u wanna hang out in Mid-Town and you live in Brooklyn, don’t pay a stupid amount of like 8,500-12,000 a month simply to be in mid town. Like, just take the subway yknow? My friends art studio is in Brooklyn and she hangs out a lot in Manhattan.

@@snusemcgoose1001 They are still Ravenclaws in the books, the word Ravenclaw comes from the founders name, Rowena Ravenclaw. The eagle is symbol of strength, immortality, intelligence, wit, wisdom, and creativity.
@@snusemcgoose1001 "Raven" is another word for black. Someone with black hair can have "raven tresses" for example. The eagle has black claws, hence Ravenclaw. But apparently the people at Warner Brothers are semi-illiterate and stopped reading after the first few letters, and never read the books at all. In the books, the Ravenclaw colors are blue and bronze, it's Slytherin that have white/silver as one of their colors. We're **not** Slytherin! I refuse to buy merch that can't even get our colors and mascot right, and I can't tell you how much money it's saved me!
GREAT video Peter! Thank you so much! I liked the gold and blue lunch box, the Butterbeer and mirror of Erised key chains, the interactive pensive and Bowtruckle peep holes, the great quality of their clothing material - hence the high prices - wow that varsity jacket was beautifully stitched! I loved the elevator, the carpet in the House and the Mina Lima sections.

This store is literally any Harry Potter superfan’s dream store!😍 They literally didn’t leave anything out and managed to make the littlest things feel and look so magical!⚡️ I absolutely loved the Ministry of Magic room, I love the green bricks. Truly amazing video Peter! I need to go now!✨🙌🏻
