- In this video, my brother and I are repairing and rebuilding a Warn 9.5 XP winch. We also replaced the braided steel winch cable with Warn's Spydura 3/8"x100' synthetic line.

This winch is mounted into the ARB winch bumper on my brothers 2005 Toyota Tacoma. - Авто та транспорт
I just rebuilt my 37 year old Ramsey winch. Motor wasn't turning over after sitting up the last 30 years. Cleaned and greased the gears. Cleaned and ohmed the motor and it appears to be good. I found out last night that the wire posts are shorted to the housing. I'll have to take it back apart and see if the insulated sleeves are shot. I also want to check to see if the plastic washer between the sections are in their groove. Thanks.
Good Job! I like how you explain things.
well, that was SPECTACULAR!
very good in depth video, especially on the gears, well explained down to the gaskets.thumbs up.
michael brown Thank you sir!
Great job👍🏻
Great video!
That is one clean winch for 9 years of use.
I picked up a Warn 9.5ti for 50 bucks. It runs, but had been beaten to hell by the previous owner. The two rear bolt holes are broken off, so i'll need to order new drum supports. In the process i figured i'd rebuild it completely with all new gaskets and clean it up the best i can inside.
This video immensely helped me understand how the winch will work, and the winches are probably similar on the inside so it'll help me with reassembly. Thanks!
Josh Hex Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
Love this video but I did t see anything on the brake. Did you remove it? I took mine out but now it won’t hold stop on a load. Did you clock it or ? What am I missing ? Thanks
Nice job on the vid guys. I hope my rebuild goes this smooth!
EricJemAndes Thank you for watching!
This was really well done mate
Thank you sir!
great vid, please do more!, cheers
Thank you for watching!
What did you guys use to clean all the gears with?
Great service video 👍.
How much rope did you fit on the drum?
Do you have a link for the Delrin roller fairlead? Thanks for your reply 👍. G.
Great video
Thank you!
Thank you for the maintenance clips for the winch. I want to ask you. I have an American Warn winch. It seems that there is a problem, and it is during the towing. It works. When the towing stops, it loosens and returns the trailer and does not continue to the state of tension. One of the technicians told me that the winch clutch must be changed, so is what he said correct. Thank you
Is there a way to make the Lever move easier between the Engaged and Free spool position? Mine has been super tight from new and at times requires 2-3 goes and to winch in/out to get it to move it's that tight? Yours looks to move way easier... I just thought they came that way.
have you ever had any issue with your rope being exposed to elements or debris while it is expose like that under the truck?
Excellent! I just tore into my 9,500 Magnum/Warn (A Warn sold under the Magnum brand with minor cosmetic differences). What a nightmare. I don't suppose it helped any to neglect it for 5 or more years. It was packed with mud & rust. Probably junk now. The planetary gears all still move but everything is ugly with rust. The solenoids just click when engaged; one or more of them is likely bad too. The motor literally had dried mud in the bottom.
The Limb Reaper Hopefully if you need to buy new parts, they're cheap! Thanks for watching!
Cool video!I just picked up a low mileage hs9500i and plan on a full rebuild when i get the rest of my suspension mods and a few other things done.It was on a street truck here in ohio.I know it has not been abused just looks ratty from ohio winters and since it's such a nice winch i want it to look new again even if my samurai looks thrashed.
Ernest Clawson Thank you for watching!
fantastic video mate! couldnt have asked for a better step through, wish you did the electric motor side though haha, im doing an xd9000. 10/10 though!
Thank you sir!
Good video.
Thank you for watching!
...thanks for showing how the planetary gear train works...
what about cleaning/ servicing the motor?
Warn currently uses Phillips Moly Lowtemp #1 for grease. Previously they used Aeroshell #17. Both contain at least five percent moly.
+Winchparts Thank you for sharing!
My Warn manual says to use Aeroshell 64 Grease. Thanks for the video!
Hola , tengo exactamente el mismo winche y se extravío la palanca del embrague , No la he podido encontrar como repuesto. Pueden mandarme una foto y las dimensiones por favor!!
Good job, good video.
+2003evodave Thank you for watching!
+milkcrate82 so how much did you spend rebuilding your winch?
+2003evodave and how much time?

Did you install a new drum for the synthetic rope?...
+Carol Cabrita Cabrita Our drum was in good shape and we were told by Warn that we would not need to replace it. If there was a lot of scarring and cuts created by the braided steel cable, we would have had to replace it.
Very good video thumbs up
Thank You!
I plan to do the same to my winch this seems simple enough to do
As long as you keep your parts in order, it's very easy.
Thats why I take pics as I take things apart makes reassembly very easy
Thanks
+Evan Harris Thank you for watching!
You can install a simple sheet of alu or plastic under your winch in order to keep the worst dirt, water, rocks etc. off your winch and rope
SquirrelFromGradLife Good tip! I'll try that. Thanks for watching!
What did you use to clean the gears?
Hewesy1984 Acetone, nylon bristle brush and paper towels.
Ok cool. I asked this before I saw someone else had already asked lol
Is there anything inside the drum? Does it need cleaned or lubed?
That's the brake assembly, so, not lubed. ;) There are some older comments that talk about that.
thanks great video, can you make a video explaining how the clutch works
slide color goes in a particular way! should have shown that.
Ok, but what about the other parts? The motor, the brake inside the drum, switchbox... and so on. I got to see those repairing!
Elemér Lapos Those parts didn't need any attention on this winch, so we didn't bother repairing those parts.
Good for you. Does not need any repairing Even after nine years ?! I got to change the brake in mine, this week. Generally the brake has three small balls, but i have found only one. Two of Them Disappeared.
Hi everyone, I want to ask a little question! Why is my winch brand CE XD9000 damaged unknowingly, check the voltage, there is no problem! Check the tightening handle on the right side and find it is loose. what is the reason? Is this caused by human factors? Because my car has been repaired before, if it is caused by the repairer, he will be affected by causality. Thank you everyone, and welcome to provide comments
